Ode to Flannel Pajamas

January 28, 2012 at 10:49 am by Claudia

Blogging is fun, but it’s even better in flannel pajamas.

If cleaning must be done, why not do it in flannel pajamas?

Reading is essential, but oh so much more satisfying in flannel pajamas.

Crafting? Creativity flows in flannel pajamas.

Crocheting? The hook just works better in flannel pajamas.

Cooking, Baking? Absolutely must be done in flannel pajamas.

Gardening is heaven, and I’ve been known to do it in my flannel pajamas.

Decoratingand DIY: pajamas.

Painting? In an old pair of flannel pajamas.

Late afternoon hot chocolate: much more satisfying in flannel pajamas.

I’ve driven my husband to work in my pajamas.

I haven’t coached in my pajamas yet, but I would if I could. Wait a minute, I coached a former student on the phone yesterday – in my flannel pajamas!

Rest assured, I do get dressed. But only under protest. In a perfect world, I would wear my flannel pajamas all day long. I’d have a different pair for each day of the week. Even in the heat of summer, I’d wear my flannel pajamas and I wouldn’t sweat. Airline travel would be done while wearing my pajamas.  Ditto train and bus travel.

Flannel PJ’s = My favorite piece of clothing.

I love you, pink squirrel flannel pajamas.

A girl after my own heart. Love being in my jammies. Right now I have a flanel hoodie long gown on . It has deer all over it. The colors are teal, wine, brown and green. What really makes it special it my sweet cousin’s. She was the closest thing I had to a sister. She passed away almost a year ago from H1N1. It feels like. It feels like she is hugging me. Kinda sad but I love that I have it right now. I didn’t intend to write any of this…..but that’s okay, right.
Have a good week-end. We are getting some snow.

My last flannel had sock monkeys. They are so comfy and have such fun designs, we should all have at least one pair.

Hey Claudia – I have one to add – Working in my Flannel Jammies!
I telework so most of my day is spent in flannel jammies unless I have to go into the office. The ones I’m wearing right have coral and burgundy flowers all over them. I think I have more jammies than street clothes at this point. Bought another pair yesterday.

It’s wonderful that you are helping all of us who hang out in flannel pajamas come out of the closet, so to speak. I have good pajamas and work pajamas (that I wear if I’m painting or working in the basement). I’m wearing work pajamas right now, since I have spent the morning in the workshop painting a dresser. There’s really no need to get ‘dressed’ if I don’t have to go out into the world and get out of the car. We should form a club.

BTW, you CAN wear PJs on a plane … I see folks in flannel pants and sweatshirts in airports all the time … it’s almost the same thing.

Hi Claudia! At the moment I’m wearing a knee length lilac nightgown with the bottom part of a pair of red flannel pajamas that has big cupcakes on it. I’m also wearing a black cardigan. I’ve been sleeping like that all week. I started wearing cotton socks to bed. It’s true what they say that it makes us sleep better. I used to just wear a nightgown when I went to bed and I would just lie there and shiver until sleep overtook me. But now with the bottom part of my pajamas and the socks,I fall asleep really fast.

Lately, I’ve taken to wearing this cute little black and white cotton dress in the house. If I get cold,I just put on the bottom part of a pair of pajamas and warm up and after I’m all warmed up, I just remove the pajamas bottoms. I don’t know what it is about this dress but when I wear it, I feel so fancy free. This dress is magic because it makes me feel so young. I’ll be wearing it again today. I also always wear my sneakers in the house because it strengthens my ankles. When you get older, it’s very important to keep your ankles strong. Believe me when I say that strong ankles pay off especially in the winter when it’s slippery. I never walk barefoot. Oh, I’ll do it a few times a day just to feel the freedom of it but as a rule, I wear my sneakers. I always invest a lot of money in them. They’re not the cheap kinds. The investment is worth it.

Getting back to the pajamas, I have actually seen some women shop with their pajama bottoms. I would not do that, though. I like to be all dressed up when I go out. It’s not that I’m a snob. It’s just that I was brought up that way. I guess we all have our standards. I do respect other people’s standards, though. We’re all in different places and that’s okay. Well, have a nice day. I want to find time today to once again study how my camera works. If I don’t use it for a while, I forget how it works. I hate reading instructions. I promised someone photos of my dollhouse.

By the way, thanks for putting your dancing video on the side bar. Claudia, I think of you and Don every time they show that commercial I told you about. You know the one where they show the characters from different sitcoms dancing to rock and roll.Oh, you must have seen it. That is such a fun commercial! Ok, have a nice day.

We are kindred spirits! I have long loved pajamas, cotton, flannel, and most recently fleece. I can not tell you a favorite brand of shoe, purse, make up, or anything else, but Nick & Nora have the best pjs! I have worn through two different pair of N&N sock monkey pjs! I almost never found the second pair. Now, even though I am the cheapest/most frugal gal around, I buy my pj’s two matching pair at a time. Only in the heat of summer do I resort to gowns, and then it’s only because of the heat.

I don’t have flannel pajamas. I have cotton. Of course living in Texas, I didn’t have much need for flannel. Now I do. Guess I’ll have to look online, as you know I hate the stores. Glad you kept the video.

Mine are covered in pink flamingos and Air Stream trailers which kind of describes me and Joe. He has an Air Stream in the back yard at the old house he used to travel in while working all around the country. I also have flamingo sheets but dare not get to matchy.

At 6 feet tall, long-legged ones are difficult to find. However, I have one pair: blue with frolicking, smiling sheep. While watching “Bridget Jones’s Diary” on television one night, I discovered they resemble a pair she wore. Comfort on both sided of the pond!

I have to confess….I have actually gone once THREE days without getting out of my pj’s and I wasn’t even sick….now that is pretty bad….I was so caught up on some computer work, photos, website building…and deadlines…couldn’t stop…don’t even ask me about my hair….for some reason, in my head, I think if I throw on a headband, that makes it all okay! Hahahaha

Thank you for stopping by so often…I love you for it and think so highly of you. Just had to let you know.

    Big hug

I will be showing your post to my DH. He just doesn’t get it that everything is better in flannel pj’s.
Here are a few more things for the list:Drinking tea is better, Cross stitching is better,Napping in the recliner is better and cuddling the dog is more cosy.
With the erratic weather we are having this Summer I am wearing them at night when the temperature drops.
I have never done this any other Summer as it is always to hot.
I have them in spots, dogs, checks and tea cup patterns. Bliss.

Love those pink squirrel pj’s! I’m finding I’m wearing my flannels more and more and later and later on these winter days when I know I don’t need to go out. They’re just so comfy – and life is just too short to not feel comfy as much as we can!

    Hi Claudia,
Great minds must think alike…I just mentioned my flannel pj’s in my post tonight too! My daughter has the exact same pair of pink squirrel pajamas as yours. She has a gray squirrel in her yard who she has affectionately named “Timmy” so we call them her “Timmy the Squirrel pajamas”. Nothing beats flannel pj’s after a long day at work. Great post!

Oh we do see eye to eye don’t we!
Pajamas are my most favorite outfit to wear. I would love to design my own clothing that is just as comfortable but wont’ get me picked up and put in a white coat for if I wear it out to the symphony, or the doctors office (a place where you would think pajamas would be expected!), or the office. Lol!
And I would only, only…only! drink hot chocolate in my flannel pajamas!

    Terri

I’m definitely putting your button up! Another fun post Claudia!

I too love my flannel pjs. My favcrite pair are red scottie dogs :) My younger son tells me regularily that it’s pajama day and even though he is snowboarding today he goes in his pj’s under his skipants. Gotta love that kind of dedication. Unfortunatly, I have to work today and am forced to put on “proper clothes” although I am campaining for a pajama day at the theatre I work at. Happy Sunday.

My husband says he has never seen anyone get into their pajamas as fast as I do when we return home from an evening out. :) Thanks for the visit Claudia. It was so good to see you. I enjoyed reading all the comments about flannels from your readers. Now I am off to view your video and grab the flannel club badge. xoxo

Funny how great minds think alike. I belong to a group of garden bloggers who admit to gardening in their pyjamas. We are located all over the world from England to Australia. I will suggest the gals click on your blog for the button. My PJs are very similar to yours in colour, I have reindeer prancing across the background.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
