Yes, dear readers, it’s come to this. I’m posting a photo of a frying pan. How much worse can things get here at the cottage?
You realize, of course, why I’m posting this particular not-very-good-photo. The color! My favorite color, in fact. We needed another frying pan (why can’t non-stick surfaces stay non-stick for more that a few months?) and I found this one at Home Goods. Cuisinart. This particular style comes in lots of bright colors. And yes, I took this photo before I potentially ruined the wicker rocker. In fact, it was right before I embarked on my doomed DIY project.
Seriously, does anyone else have problems with non-stick pans? If you have a recommendation, I’d sure love to hear it. Because we are seriously irritated by it. Especially this guy:
…who does most of the frying around here. Neat photo, eh? (My Canadian grandmother wrote letters to me when I was in college and she invariably ended a sentence with “eh?”) I took this last week because Don wanted some updated photos with his now shorter hair. Ooh….those eyes!! And let’s not mention his hair, which makes me green with envy.
Now I will leave you with this photo of Scout looking insane:
Scout will be 13 this December. She is the youngest 13 year old dog I’ve ever seen. She’s got far more energy than I do, that’s for sure. As she gets older, though, she has become barkier. Lots of barking. Nagging barking. She’s like an elderly person who has decided that old age has earned her the right to mouth off whenever she wants. You know, the person who says, “I speak my mind. I don’t care what people think.”
That’s Scout. She’s a piece of work, that one.

Hi Claudia,
I buy the T-Fal brand and NEVER use metal utensils – well, now and then I have a memory lapse and might flip with the wrong spatula!! They seem to hold up well and are not too expensive, so I do definitely chuck them away after a couple of years……..when I get nervous about the healthiness factor of manmade non-stick coatings!
Your turquoise one is pretty and being Cuisinart, a good brand, should last much longer than a few months. Tell that handsome Don to stick with plastic/nylon utensils!
Great photo of himself! Bet he plays/sings a mean song – lucky you having someone to serenade you when the going gets rough. Scout actually appears to be singing too, guess she’s just coming into her senior voice, ha! ha!
Hope your day is great – I’m off to have a little eye surg. shortly – wish me luck!
Hugs – Mary

Never found a frying pan, a stick free frying pan I should say, that Hubby and I liked. I do love an old cast iron though for cooking egss and hash browns for breakfast, but then that’s not stick free and has nothing to do with answering your question now does it? LOL

Love the colour of your new pan. Just like Mary does, I never use metal utensils. Also I never put them in the dishwasher but always wash them by hand (no scouring pads!). I use them on a daily basis and they stay beautiful, even my cheap ones.

I think I obviously spoke my mind today! About the skillets, no, I can’t find one either. LUSCIOUS color! Scout is a hoot and a half. And tell Don he has the cross between George Clooney and basset hound eyes.

I HAVE THE SAME TROUBLE, YOU HAVE TO ONLY USE WOOD OR UTENSILS MADE FOR THESE PANS…..I START OUT GOOD, BUT AFTER WHILE I AM USING MY OLD METAL WHATEVER. THE ONE YOU HAVE LOOKS LIKE A GOOD ONE, HOPE IT LAST A LONG TIME. MY MOM HAD A CAST IRON ONE, FOR YEARS AND YEARS……MY CAST IRON ALWAYS GOT RUSTY…I WOULD WASH IT TILL IT SHINED……I KNOW, I SHOULDN’T HAVE DONE THAT.
DON LOOKS GOOD, LIKE HIS HAIR CUT.
NOW….SCOUT WHAT A SWEETHEART…
SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE FEELS REAL GOOD. RIZZI

Claudia, good nonstick pans are difficult to find. To date my best one has been a Farberware one with a stainless steel bottom. It is quite heavy and I believe I paid about $35.00 for it which, for me, is a lot but it is holding up very well to a lot of cooking. Scout’s photo is adorable and I always enjoyed my older fussy patients the best when I worked. โฅO

Beautiful color that pan, makes cooking so much more fun. And no, no solution here, I hate that sticking non-stick thing too.

Looks great your new pan, Claudia-
and also your handsome husbond.
Nonsticks are for me also difficult but now I only use nylon utensils for them.

Luv, luv, luv, the color! When I married the Enginerd 27 years ago, I learned two things; one, he cooks, two, he kill pans. Six died before our first year together ended. We now have an amazing collection of cast iron–he can’t kill it, and I love it.

Great photos!
Scout looks so cute. I have a thirteen year old dog, Sugar, who has always been a quiet dog. But, she has gotten real mouthy too. When she decides it’s time for her dinner, she lets us know, in no uncertain terms.
But then, I guess I’ve gotten mouthier in my old age too! lol

I used the T-Fal brand of non-stick cookware for years and loved it. Then I bought a glass top stove and it recommended stainless steel pans (the T-Fal were aluminum) so I chose a set of Faberware pots without a non-stick coating and Faberware’s stainless fry pans with non-stick coating and they’ve been great. My husband has a tendency to fry items at too high a temp for the non-stick and that can ruin any of them. Good luck!

I have yet to find the perfect frying pan, so I keep using my same old scuffed up, ugly ones! LOL!
Great photo of Don and the doggie.

I love the color of that pan. I don’t know why they don’t stay non stick. It drives me a bit coo coo too!

Claudia, I love the color of your pan. I agree with the others about using the right utensils and no scouring pads. Do you use a little light olive oil when frying so that food will not stick?
I also know from experience about older doggies, my first little Bichon Miffy lived to 15yrs. and was more mouthy the older he became.
Probably the entitlement of old age.

Love that color…jewelry for the kitchen! Great pic of Don!

The Green Pan- by Todd English. Available at Target but better priced on HSN as a collection. I have every piece they make. I love them and have had mine several years. I hardly use my high end calphalon.
Honest!

Dont know why but I am on that robin egg blue kick and i love the pan. I had ordered some non-stick earth friendly pans but they were not so hot so they went back. So I am back to my non-coated pans till I can find another one.
Don does have some awesome looking hair but no to mention an amazing voice. My fav is “Say It Twice”…
God bless and keep you all safe.

I LOVE SCOUT!!! And you have a handsome hubby :). I do the same as everyone…no dishwasher, careful hand washing, no metal….and throw them out after a few years…I don’t get pricey ones.
