Here’s how our day started off:
We woke up at 5 am. Way too early.
Later, as I walked toward the loveseat Don was sitting on, he cleared everything off the sofa so I could sit down next to him. Except, it turns out, his glasses, which I promptly sat on and broke. This evoked much crying on my part. He needs his glasses. They are also glasses with expensive progressive lenses. (I broke the frame, not the lenses.)
Later, I saw a shield bug stuck on a spatter guard in the dish rack – how it got in the house I don’t know – and as I tried to free it and put it outside, I ended up unintentionally killing it. I feel very badly about that because I do my best to save all the bugs that get in the house. It bothers me.
I cried some more.
We have a dangerous winter storm headed our way on the weekend with several inches of snow, ice, and wind chills of 20 below zero.
I’m edgy and worried about that and I can’t stop thinking about Don’s glasses. He said it was his fault for leaving them on the sofa but I think it’s my fault, which has resulted in both of us feeling guilty.
Maybe I should go back to bed and bury myself under the covers for the rest of the day.
Ah well.
I’m going to take a shower and go for a reset for the rest of the day.
Happy Wednesday.
Shanna says
Oh, pooh! I hate it when that happens! (I’m not much of a morning person anyway, so it generally feels like the sky is falling whenever I get out of bed.) At least you can look at it as the only way for the rest of the day to go is UP!! Snuggle up and keep warm, you guys.
Claudia says
We will. Now we’re sweating getting more heating oil here before the storm. It’s our own fault – we didn’t keep track of how much oil we had on hand.
Dawn Pinnataro says
Ok… You both deserve to just hit RESET for the day. I have had days like this and just wanted to put my head under the covers and hide out the rest of the day… Stay warm and be safe this weekend; my area calling for70-90% of severe rain, chance of tornados overnight Saturday (we had tornadoes in January 2017 and hurricane michael right over our heads Oct 10th – I am in Albany GA) and severe, strong cold winds on Sunday with cold start Jan 21st (in low 20s with wind chills in teens). That is BRRRRR for us her in SW Georgia. Anyways… better days….
Dawn P.
Claudia says
Stay safe yourself, Dawn!
Tana says
Not the way anyone wants to start the day! So glad you are going to keep on–keeping on! Best way to find all the wonderful stuff that awaits you.
Claudia says
Thank you, Tana!
Donnamae says
Oh no! Yes…you need a restart. I hate when stuff like that happens…makes me want to hibernate. But…things can be fixed…except for the bug, sorry. And, like Shanna said….there’s no place to go but up! After your shower fix yourself a hot cup of something…and breathe. Hope the rest of the day goes more smoothly for you! ;)
Claudia says
Thanks, Donnamae!
Alice Berkman Williams says
Hi Claudia,
I’m so sorry about the glasses, but it was no one’s fault– these things happen, and thank goodness it wasn’t the lenses. I agree with Donnamae about just breathing and taking deep breaths, it helps. Thank you so much for your wonderful posts and pictures that brighten everyone’s day. I hope so much everything will soon be much better.
Claudia says
Thank you for your kind words, Alice!

here’s to brighter days … starting now!

Thank you, Kathy!

Yes,that sort of thing can really plummet the energy.Sometimes,it seems our vulnerability gets triggered by theses kind of mishaps. They feel like too much. The reset plan and starting over is a good approach. Be gentle with yourselves.
Claudia says
We are. Thank you, Grace.
Mary Bond says
It is the nature of eye glasses to break get lost, stepped on or sat on. They are just so damn expensive to replace. Crying is a good response.
Sorry to hear this. Nature does what it does. We do not need to like it. We were in a disaster area recently due to flooding. Nerve wracking. It is now gone and the flowers are blooming. Pleased that you will have oil soon. Spring is somewhere. Meanwhile, a hot bath sounds good.
It will pass but it is a pain till it does.
Claudia says
It’s all a pain at the moment, Mary. Thanks.
Wendy T says
Claudia, Oops…we all have days when we think the roller coaster is plummeting down…here’s to an upswing soon! Grab a book and a hot drink and a blanket, and snuggle into a story. You’ll know when to emerge into your real world again.
Claudia says
Sometime – maybe on Tuesday.

Thanks, April.

Well, that beginning sucked! Actually, I feel like our personal “edginess” is increasing every day with that monster in the WH (living in a government shutdown area, we are all grouchy). The only trickle down theory that seems to work is anxiety. Relax for the rest of the day. And, as Scarlet said, “Tomorrow is another day!”
Claudia says
I agree. It just gets worse. My heart aches for all those who are not getting a paycheck because of that ass.
Linda P. says
We’re going through a time right now when my healthcare needs have resulted in a lot of extra expenditures, thousands worth. I struggle with guilt, too. That’s the pits for both of you, as I can sense you’re both being cautious about expenditures. If no one else has suggested it, you might check out Costco, if you have one within reach. Not only are they cheaper to begin with, but also they’ve replaced lenses even when it was my fault. I’m not sure about frames, and especially designer ones. Once, I didn’t realize I had dropped a pair of progressive glasses from the little pack I bring with me when I walk the dog. By the time a neighbor found them and put them on our doorstep, they were a mess, but they replaced them.
Claudia says
I love Costco – we used to belong to one in San Diego. Unfortunately, there’s not one near me. I wish there was!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
I have always wished for a backspace/ delete key for life. Would surely come in handy!! As others said, the rest of the day will hopefully move up and on! We will hope it is so.
Stupid weather. It puts everyone on edge. And half the time it goes in an entirely different direction anyway. ugh.
If only you weren’t vegan! You could have a big juicy hamberder and all would be better!! I hope you sleep well tonight and that Thursday starts out much better for both of you.
Claudia says
I don’t think this one is going in a different direction, unfortunately!
Did you see that Burger King trolled Trump on Twitter? They said something like they don’t have hamberders but they do make hamburgers.
jeanie says
Sounds like a grim start to the day, Claudia, but the good news is where can it go but up? At least I hope so!
I’ll be thinking of you tonight in the audience of the Anastasia tour!
Claudia says
Have fun tonight, Jeanie!
Nana Diana says
What a way to start the day, Claudia! I hate when things like that happen. I hope he is able to get some frames to fit the lenses and that it happens in short order.
Now- hope your day is reset and better! xo Diana
Claudia says
They had the same frames (but in black, not brown) so they were able to pop the lenses in the frames. We’re still out $150 for the frames, but better than having to order new frames and lenses. Thanks, Diana!
Brenda says
Sorry about the glasses
The bugs not so much! I don’t love any bug-am a vegetarian but bugs I don’t like! Carry diseases! So don’t feel guilty! Hope tomorrow is better !
Still love love your blog
Claudia says
None of the bugs that get in our house carry diseases, Brenda.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Days like this send me back to bed for sure!
Melanie says
Ugh, sorry to hear about Don’s glasses. I guess if there was an upside, it was that you only broke the frames and not the lenses. Brian and I both have progressive lenses, so I know how much those things cost.
A shield bug…those are also called stink bugs, right? As they can be very invasive in your house and they emit a terrible odor when squashed (not that I’d squash one – eww), I vacuum them up and then empty the canister back outside.
We have the same winter storm coming our way this weekend. Guess it will pass here through the Midwest first, then be on its way to the east coast. We’re supposed to be driving 1-1/2 hours to my aunt’s 80th birthday party on Sunday, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. Even if the roads are clear by then, the wind chills will be below zero. I don’t know if I want to leave the house.
Claudia says
I bet you won’t be making that trip, Melanie. It looks like we’re going to be somewhat paralyzed around here from Sat – Monday.
Chy says
No words today …. just a big hug!
X Chy
Claudia says
Thank you, Chy!

I’m the same way. I even manage to save flies and release them.
I use a star bucks clear vinyl cup.
I never broke glasses until I bought a pair of Ralph Lauren frames once years ago.
I ran over them with my car. it’s the most I ever paid for glasses. lesson learned!
we’re in line for what you’re going to get. it’s been like Spring here for days.
the weather man said it will literally be snowing totally sideways on Sat because of the wind!
from 70 degrees to 0 in a matter of hours! poor little animals.
hope they didn’t pack away their ‘winter’ fur coats.
Claudia says
I hope their fur is nice and thick, Tammy!
Marilyn says
Sorry about Don’s glasses. Hope the day gets better.
