Endlessly windy around here. Non-stop. We were out running errands yesterday and it felt like we’d topple at any moment! It’s also much colder, but that was expected.
It’s Friday the 13th – Don’s lucky day.
We decorated the tree on Wednesday and darned if I didn’t break 3 vintage ornaments. I’ve never done that before. I admit to getting a little teary about the losses.
Here she is:
There will be more views in the next couple of weeks.
A low-key day ahead, though I have to mail an Etsy package. Our local post offices are overwhelmed at the moment. Earlier this week, our mail didn’t arrive until 10 pm. Insane. They are short-staffed, apparently. We really felt for the drivers. As we’re in the country, there are no street lights, and driving around on an unfamiliar route, looking for the right mailbox must have been exhausting. And one of those days involved torrential rains, as well! I’m waiting for a package that was sent from Spain – OB22 and 24 bodies for Blythes – and it arrived last week, went through customs, then went to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and now it’s back in Queens. What the heck? I live 75 miles northwest of Queens – in the same state. It should have been here days ago.
Queen Zoe. (mini me)
Queen Miranda.
Two more to go.
Stay safe.
Happy Friday.

Oh, it’s so sad when you break something you’ve cherished so many years. It’s a pretty tree and makes me wish we could go back to a real one again.
We had the wind and bone-chilling cold two days ago. Still single digit cold this morning but at least no more minus 18 windchill! Dean was in Phoenix (lucky guy) in 60’s all week while I laid awake listening to the howling wind and house cracking noises. I asked our youngest how his Charlie liked going out early to do his business in the double-digit windchill. Charlie is notable for his loathing of cold weather and snow. Nick said he did everything in record time because it was clear he had no interest at all in a walk. Then he spent the rest of the day curled up under fleece blankets on Nick’s couch.
Take care,
Kay
Claudia says
It’s still very cold – wind chill in the single digits overnight.
Stay safe, Kay.

i would cry, too, over a broken ornament and moreso for three. sorry that happened. hopefully the tree’s beauty outweighs the sadness!
also hope you get the parts package soon. repairs needed, or are you creating a doll on your own?!?
i see the white tree behind zoe and miranda. it reminds me of my maternal grandparents’ tree, the kind with a gel-sheet(?) with four colors on it that rotated in front of a lightbulb and changed the color of the tree. loved that (wish i had it) and love them.
best wishes about the wind (not a favorite of mine, either). had little more snow yesterday and that’s good (we need the moisture), plus it is pretty … but as much as i like winter (a lot), i do not care for 7-degree mornings like we had yesterday, and especially dread the twelve hours of ice that we are to get tonight. my brother has to drive a couple hours each way in it for jobs in two towns tonight and tomorrow. praying for safety for him and everyone else and will be glad and grateful when he gets home.
same for being stocked up here … food, gas, etc. and cross-stitch fabric arrived (so i’ve started the gift for my oldest niece).
happy, safe friday to you, don and everyone else. including the hard-working mail carriers (my paternal grandfather was one)!
kathy
Claudia says
No repair. Just routine doll stuff.
Stay safe with all the ice, Kathy. That’s always scary stuff.

Your tree is very festive…I love the larger snowflakes and your vintage ornaments! One year when I was a kid we made snowflake ornaments from macaroni and covered them with glitter…we still have a lot of them and they really stand out on the tree. Sorry to hear you broke several…it’s hard as they’re so fragile and can slip from fingers easily. On occasion our mail delivery is quite late, I feel for the delivery person. I try to remember to leave the porch light on. Yesterday it was raining quite hard while he was making his rounds. Those crowns are making the rounds, too…so cute! Hope your package arrives soon.
Claudia says
Our mailbox is down by the street, so the porch light doesn’t help, unfortunately! Wish we had a spotlight right on the mailbox. I grew up in suburbia with a streetlight on our property. Good and bad, but definitely good for late nights.
Stay safe, Barrie.

Your Christmas tree is a delight and so are your beautiful girls. I am sorry about the loss of the vintage ornaments. It is sad. Christmas ornaments are memories of Christmas times over the years..
Stay warm and safe,
Kaye
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Kaye.
Stay safe.

Seems Don and I share the same lucky day!
Your tree is beautiful and I’m sorry about your ornaments. We no longer put up a tree because of naughty kitties but I have metal ornament trees all over and so far, they haven’t bothered them. No glass ornaments allowed thought. If one did drop and break, I’m paranoid about small shards being embedded into kitty pads.
I know you get snow and rain but would a length of weather-resistant battery operated lights entwining your mailbox help the delivery person, as well as lend some cheer along your road?
Claudia says
Thanks Wendy, but with our extreme weather anything battery operated would not be practical. We do have holiday lights on our porch, however.
Stay safe.
