Oh Skype, I love thee!

February 24, 2009 at 1:34 pm by Claudia

As you know, my husband and I have been trying to Skype since Valentine’s Day. It has been a frustrating experience. My built-in web cam on the newer MacBook worked just fine so Don could see me, but I couldn’t see him. After several phone conversations with the helpful people at the Apple Store, Don discovered that the super web cam he had purchased was for a newer operating system than the one in our desktop iMac. After more conversation, he found he either had to update our operating system and buy the super duper camera, or look for an older iSight camera that Apple no longer makes. The helpful guy from Apple even looked on ebay, while on the phone with Don, and found one listed. Don bid on one camera, lost out on it, then bid on another and won. The super duper camera was boxed up and returned to Apple and yesterday, the iSight camera arrived! After some fiddling with said camera, Don magically appeared on my screen!! And the dogs!!! I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to see my husband, and my wonderful doggies. Scout kept looking at the computer screen because she knew my voice was coming from that contraption – I swear she saw me. Riley, on the other hand, roused when he heard my voice and then slept.

Now, I can see my loved ones even when 3000 miles apart. Oh, how wonderful! By the way, the photo of McCoy pottery at the top of the post is in honor of our office/guest room where the Skyping took place. These lovelies are perched on top of a cabinet in that room.

Husband is coming out to visit me one week from this coming Friday during my Spring Break. I am counting the days.

More later.

I’ve been catching up on your blog procrastinating because I don’t want to do my homework! Anyway, I’m so happy that skype worked for you! And he’s coming to visit?!?! That is SO exciting, I sort of know how excited you are about this because I feel like life with my boyfriend is made up of visits. Anyway, miss you, talk to you soon.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
