We ended up mowing the entire property yesterday save for the corral, which I had mowed last Sunday. I was on the phone with my friend Doug and Don mentioned that he was going out to mow the lilac side of the lawn. Okay. But, as I sat there talking to Doug, I noticed that Don had finished that side and had moved on to the main part of the lawn. He took a couple of breaks, but by the time I joined him out there, he had finished about 3/4 of that huge expanse.
I took over and worked my way through the rest of that section, then upward alongside the house, then to the secret garden (still soggy) and the up to the back forty.
Oh lordy, we were tired. I mentioned to Don that my sections were much more ‘hilly’ and that pushing the only partly functioning lawnmower up and down the hills was not the best thing for my back. We’ll either tag team or switch sections next time.
But it sure looks pretty out there. There’s nothing like spring, when the lawn is thick and a lovely shade of green. It’s all very satisfying! But…we are resting today because it was a darned workout!
Now that we’ve passed last night’s cold temperatures, it will be time to plant some pots and some seeds. I’d love to drive over to our nursery today but I’m hesitant because the weekenders will be there and it will be crowded. But will I miss out on plants?? I haven’t purchased anything yet because the weather has been so funky. The force field is pulling me towards those plants!
The Adirondack chairs need to be moved from the shed to the porch. The cushions have to pulled out from the cupboard under the stairs. The bucket of salt for winter ice needs to go back to the shed. I’m getting an itch to transform the porch and the pots in the secret garden.
I took this photo as evidence that I love a brunette bob.
Okay, my friends. Have a lovely weekend.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Wow, I am in awe of you and Don and your mowing dedication. I think about you guys every time the neighbor two houses down, a golf course landscape supervisor, drags out his riding mower to do his pretty small lawn. It’s huge and loud and probably exactly like the ones they use where he works.
I share your distaste for shopping on weekends. Since I retired, I save all that for weekdays. Except for our first trip to our favorite nursery in Milwaukee. Dean still works so that has to be a weekend trip, but the place is so huge you don’t notice the crowd as much. Except when there’s a cart shortage.
Love your girls’ bobs. As they’re showing, it’s so versatile – so many different ways to wear it. I’ve had a bob at least 40 years now and it’s time to get mine shortened a bit for the warm weather to come.
Take care,
Kay

We don’t shop on weekend either….too crowded. I’m curious what nursery in Milwaukee do you shop? Enjoy your weekend! ;)

It’s Minor’s on 76th Street. Absolutely fabulous nursery that has everything.
Donnamae says
Ah…thank you. I seem to remember my parents going to Minor’s a long long time ago. They loved it, too. ;)

It’s only a 15 minute drive from the Cedarburg area to give you some distance perspective. You’ll love it too!

We live in Madison, so it’s a bit further for us. But, it would be fun to visit the old haunt again! Enjoy your day! ;)

Thank you and you as well. We lived a decade in Middleton when we moved back to the state, and to this girl who was raised in a college town it is my favorite of any place we’ve lived.

Claudia,
Have you ever ordered seeds (or visited) the Hudson Valley Seed Co.? They’re in Accord, NY. Not sure if that’s nearby? I LOVE them! The seed packets are truly little works of art.
Enjoy your day.

dear Claudia/Don — I told you all to take it easy with that mowing — sounds just like Myma giving advice, haha!! hope you can rest/recuperate and enjoy that beautiful yard!! we are having up and down temps — I am SO ready to move plants outside b/c I make such a mess watering, pruning when they are inside during winter — they also grow much better outside in the sun/shade BUT am unsure if overnite temps will be OK for them — some of the plants are several years old so really don’t want to ruin them now — guess caution is best for a little while longer. hope your wknd is a good one — stay safe/healthy

wow; that’s a lot of work! glad the weather is more to your liking and that you can get out there, will tag team/swap sections on future mowings and can take it easy today.
i am thanking God for protecting my family and asking His help for everyone … especially after lots of scary weather last night. my brother and sister-in-law were driving to lincoln, nebraska late yesterday afternoon, saw a tornado coming towards them, took a great, but quick, photo of it, then sought shelter, just a couple miles before it crossed over interstate 80 (the road they were on). and one of my cousins and her family live in elkhorn, the omaha suburb that had sections clobbered by a tornado last night. they are safe as is their home, just one mile from the devastation. alarm after alarm went off here last night, too … enough that we packed up some things, delayed bedtime and were going to the basement when the tornado was then reported as being above a suburb (less than ten miles) northeast of here. alarms went off again close to midnight. it was a short night that was also a long night! praising God that my family is safe. hope everyone else is, too.
all my “have to” things are done for the day. good, because i am tired. loved all the rain we got, but not the high winds and tornadoes. more is in the forecast for later today, tomorrow and a couple days next week.
hope you, don and everyone else have a nice, easy weekend and stay safe!

I’m exhausted just thinking of mowing your lawn and having to push a mower. That would be quite a workout. You deserve a day or two off.
Since most of our heavy outdoor work is done here, we’re just enjoying these warm humid breezes here, and will do light things like putting out the hoses. We still have the deck furniture to put out, too. But, that can wait for a few more days. Storms are predicted again later this afternoon and evening.
I just can’t wait til I can visit a nursery or three. If you do go to the nursery….hope you find what you want. We try awfully hard not to shop on the weekends…too many people.
Enjoy your weekend! ;)

It’s definitely too peopley to shop on a weekend. Great job getting all that grass mown. You both deserve a rest. Hope your weekend is going well. Just hearing about the tornadoes in the midwest. Yikes! Your three girls are looking ever so cute. There is just something about their shoes that I love. Hugs, Elaine

Your 3 girls look a little hesitant about being in the porch but will tell the others that porch time is well on its way. Love their outfits.
Rest and relax. At least the mowing is done for now and you’ve had your exercise. Take care of your backs! I was out in the garden watering and weeding. I will have my regular yard maintenance guy (he put in my garden) come out soon to re-do the crushed granite pathways in the backyard. The granite layer has thinned out from raking and walking on it.

So pleased you have found time in your busy yard schedule to find suitable outfits for the girls. I so enjoy seeing what they are wearing. From the shoes to the scarf they are dressed in such an attractive manner. Please keep showing us what they are wearing.

Adirondack chairs are heavy! Be sure to be careful with your backs! But it’s great Don got a lot done, and then you, too. I’ll bet it looks great.
I’m hoping to get to the nursery in the week between my surgeries (when I’m allowed to lift more than 10 pounds) so I can get some dirt for pots and some plants. I ordered my geraniums to support the symphony but want to do some pots of herbs to take to the lake in June and some cosmos and zinnias (seeds) and a few “mixed” pots — coleus with some bloom or another! We always hesitate to plant before May 15 but I think I’ll take the chance — I can haul pots into the garage if we get a frost warning. ]
As for the weekend, laying low! Reading, painting and loving it.
