Oil Painting and Sophie

September 19, 2021 at 8:45 am by Claudia

Finished!

This one took a long time. Between coaching and a slew of other things going on, there was a long period of time between the last time I worked on it and yesterday, when I finally finished. I don’t recommend it. I felt a little disconnected and had to work hard to get back in the ‘groove.’

This is number ten in the Pottery Portraits series. The pattern on this vase is Dahlrose.

I’m pretty pleased with the results.

Sophie was demanding a change of clothes, so I complied. After all, she’s fairly quiet most of the time, so I can hardly complain.

When she arrived in the mail, I soon thought of all my sheep and the fact that they might make a nice addition to a photo. I believe a reader of this blog suggested it, too. I started with this needle-felted lamb that I’ve had for a long time. The lamb, my teddy bear, and Maggie Rabbit always accompanied me on long stints in Hartford.

Sophie loves animals and is a vegetarian like her mom.

Good for you, Sophie!

The dress was made by an Etsy seller: Rose and Cacao. She also made those overalls Sophie wore with her Beatles t-shirt. The boots were made by Crafty by Cora, another Etsy seller.

This might be one of my favorite dresses.

Today, I have to run an errand, wash the sheets, unclog the bathtub drain (what fun) – that kind of thing. Don is already off running errands.

Tomorrow I coach Ben. We rescheduled this morning’s session because he has a whopper of a headache. Next Sunday, I take the train to NYC and then on to Queens, where I’ll be coaching Anastasia  for two days. This Friday, I have to get the PCR Covid test; you’re supposed to get it 72 hours before starting work.

A busy time ahead, between Anastasia, private coaching, and preparing for 6 weeks in NYC.

My nephew updated us yesterday. Greta has a cyst and an abdominal blockage. She hasn’t eaten since Monday and she can’t keep anything down. We’re very worried. I can’t quite remember how old she is, but she’s around 8 or 9 years old. Too much for a little girl.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Sad news about the passing of dialect coach Joan Washington.

Yes, though I didn’t really know of her as a dialect coach, more as the the adored wife of Richard E. Grant.

Sad and sorry about Greta, praying she recovers soon. No child should suffer so.

I watched CBS Sunday Morning this morning and they had a segment on dialect coaches and exactly what they do to help actors. Now I understand exactly what you do! Ha !

Stay safe in your upcoming travels.

I keep hearing about that segment. I don’t watch things about my profession, though!

      Stay safe, Sherry.

I thought of you this morning when watching CBS Sunday Morning. They did a piece on dialect coaching in movies and theater. I think it helped me understand what you do a bit better. I’m sure, if you didn’t see it, that it will be on-line by this afternoon.

Keeping your niece in thought and prayer.

Have a good day doing your catch ups. Take care.

I don’t watch things like that because it’s too easy to compare oneself to others. So I stay away!

      Thanks, Chris.

Yes…the feature on CBS This Morning on dialect coaches really helped to explain some of what you do. It was very interesting.

So sorry to hear about your niece Greta…I will keep her in my thoughts. Enjoy your day of chores…hope you get some rest! ;)

I love the new painting especially how you added texture to the vase. Starting work again must be exciting. I have to admit I am a bit jealous. You and Don are amazing.

Best wishes to Greta for a quick treatment and recovery. That is so tough and stressful for everyone.

Claudia — the painting is beautiful. sorry re: niece’s illness — have always said (since having children/gchildren) nothing more hurtful/worrying than a sick child. at least, she is old enough to be able to tell drs what hurts — unlike infant or very young child. hope her suffering will end soon with a return to good health. stay safe/healthy

NYC. Yes…good luck on tests…family in Indy had to be tested before going to NYC because some had Covid (yes vaccinated). When hadn’t gotten results…had to go do rapid test…family here flew to Virgin Islands…rented house cooked own food…to get away from all this Covid..three tests came back readily…other one didn’t…another rapid and they were anxious because results posted right before leaving for plane…ludicrous…I have had to wait a week for results when I had to be tested few times…the ones who had had Covid did not go to NYC, of course…had been over couple weeks plus…we r all careful…I do not travel at my age…senior…family has decided only short one to two hour trips and not out of mainland until Covid better…ludicrous the waiting…could be really sick before tests come back…my best and oldest friend has nephew with Covid and one critical…vaccinated doubtful…excited for u to go…daughter said. Nyc masking and even I. Restaurants had to show vaccinated cards…

Your lamb is exquisite. Oh, that one is a gem. I’m glad she travels with you. (Will Sophie?)

The painting looks good. I know what you mean about gaps in painting. It’s hard to get back i the groove.

It sounds like a busy week. Good luck on everything!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
