On Sunday

June 17, 2012 at 9:39 am by Claudia

Yesterday morning, I woke up way too early. But the upside was that I could spend some quiet time on the porch.

Unfortunately, I spied a busy wasp or two building a nest way up on the porch ceiling. This happens every year – wasps love our wooden porch. So far, they’ve been too busy building to be concerned with me. As much as I love nature, I think the nest will have to go.

Can you find my lens cap in the picture? I swear, that lens cap ends up in too many pictures. Or I misplace it. Later in the day, Don found it on the driveway as he was getting ready to go to work.

Let’s see. What else is new? I’ve planted two pots with Purple Hyacinth Bean vine. They are on either side of the little gate we use to get to the kitchen door. As you know, the dog corral, as we call it, is made out of chicken wire fencing. Practical, but not too pretty. So I’m hoping I can grow a vine that will eventually cover up some of the fence. I’ve also added a wee, narrow bed in front of another section of the corral fence in which I’ve planted seeds for zinnias and sunflowers. They’re just now emerging from the ground.

The main garden bed is lush and green. I shot this looking down on the bed from the patio area. There are the two pieces of the birdbath that was broken last year during Hurricane Irene.

What else? Oh yes, it’s Fathers Day. The father in this household is still sleeping and I have to sneak out and buy him some donuts. (He loves donuts.) Scout and Riley will give him a card. I took this picture of Scout about a week ago and entitled it “Is that Daddy?” This is the look she has on her face in the morning when she thinks Don is about to come downstairs.

Looking toward stairs.

Then, when she hears him, it becomes this:

Happy Fathers Day to my dad and to my doggies’ dad!

Happy Sunday.

That is probably why I have a point and shoot camera, hah. At least I can see everyone else’s beautiful professional pics, hah.
Such a sweet picture of Scout.
I hope the pups spoil their daddy today.
Have a nice Sunday. We have thunder and I am hoping that the rain follow.

It looks lovely there this morning.

Scout looks happy, how is Riley doing now days?

Our new pups wished their daddy a Happy Father’s Day today by letting him share his breakfast with them, aren’t they generous.

Hope Don enjoys his Father’s Day donuts.

    Happy day Claudia,
    Sue

Maybe you should do a picture series called “Where Is Claudia’s Cap”…you know kinda like-“Where’s Waldo”~ lol

Love your old broken bird bath-too sad that it came to be that way at all-a bittersweet memory.

Happy Birthday to both Dads! xo Diana

I used to have a lens cap leash that had a sticky on the cap and an elastic band around the lens, with a little string between the two. I never lost the lens cap, but we did lose the camera in a move. Oh well.

Your photos are lovely and I wish you and Don a peaceful and happy Father’s Day!

Here’s how to keep the wasps from building nests…use a spray to kill the wasps -at night- then leave the nest, no other wasps will build there as they are territorial. It has worked for me. I have had a very small nest on the roof of my porch for 3 years with no new wasps trying to build any.

lady hawthorne is right about wasps being territorial..I’ve had the same experience..I guess I can be glad that my camera has no lens cap..I used to do that frequently..

How on earth does your lens cap end up out there? Lord, girl, you need to put it in your pocket before you lose it. That’s precious of Scout. She’s like Abi, full of photogenic genes. Tell Don I said Happy Father’s day. I forgot to plant my Hyacinth Bean vine till it was too hot to start.

Claudia, thank you so much for the sweet comment on my blog today. It meant so much :)

Every time I read your blog something reminds me of our house! The other day it was the climbing hydrangeas, and now the vines that you have started in the pots look just like the Cardinal Climber vine that I stared in several pots (I’ve yet to post about it, but will be soon). Mine looks about the same as your right now!

    Have a good week, Claudia!

Boy can I related about the lens cap! I’m always losing mine or it ends up in the picture. Your porch looks like a great place to take a nap (without the wasps of course) Riley looks so cute! Hope Don had a very happy father’s day and that your dad is doing better.

I love early mornings. Have been trying to get my walks in but this morning didn’t wake up early enough and boy is it hot today. I only managed 20 minutes and hightailed it back home. The lens cap on our Canon is attached by a thin cord so it can’t be lost. My little camera has a slide lens. Your garden is looking lovely. I’m always surprised when I see my little moss roses peeking out each day. Scout is so precious. Such unconditional love. Have a great week. Tammy

What a lovely morning you had. All seems well. . . when I have quiet time outdoors.

We had the same problem with wasps building nests on the porch until we painted it Martha Stewart’s “Porch Ceiling Blue” – C26. No more wasps! Supposedly it confuses them into thinking there is no ceiling – just sky! I don’t know if that’s the reason or not – but they no longer build nests on my porch!

    Have a great week!

Those hyacinth bean vines are one of my fav annuals!
The wasp situation here is almost unbearable; worse than ever before. I found 4 nests on our little covered patio and had Eddie “remove” them. Well, he knocked them down, but this morning one nest still had wasps on it. I decided to water around it, but not too near. As I stood watering on the other side of the patio, all of a sudden my back felt like it was on fire. Apparently wasps have a really good memory and were still mad from yesterday. I ended up with 5 stings on my back. Moral of the story: next time take the nests out myself! ;-)

Hi Claudia, love your blog thanks for all your sharings. Like Vera commented I also painted my porch ceiling a very light blue and have not any problems with wasp nesting. Every once in a while I get a few bugs stuck on the edge of the ceiling but no more wasps or bees lingering.
