Just playing. I don’t think I’ll have any time to work on this before I have to leave. Gosh, I love that sofa. I’m so glad I ordered it. Now to get one for my real-life den…
The fireplace needs painting. But since it needs spray-painting that will have to wait for warmer weather.
I managed to put off my research yesterday. I was feeling a little out of it, so I figured today would be a better day to begin. The brain needs to be sharp, you know. And that wasn’t the case yesterday.
I did, however, make French Toast for my husband. And it was yummy.
I slapped some paint on the bulletin board. It’s not perfect, but I don’t care. I hung it in the corner because I didn’t want it interfering with the clean view in front of the desk: white desk, aqua mantel shelf, egg cups. Nothing hanging on either side of the mantel.
I’d rather have it off to the side, where it’s not in my direct sightline.
Bulletin/Pin boards evolve over time, I think. They take on a life of their own as we add things from current projects, reminders, snapshots, ticket stubs…whatever. So this is very basic right now; things that have meaning for me, photos I like to see as I’m sitting at the desk.
I found that photo of my parents when I was in Florida. It’s from my niece’s wedding. They look beautiful and happy. That photo of my dad in uniform came inside a letter he sent me this year. Love the photo of the cast, crew and creative team from Our Town at Chautauqua this past summer. Such a lovely memory and a wonderful production. There’s Don and me at the beach in California many years ago. You might recognize the student I’m working with in that other photo. (We’re both a lot older now.) And there’s a card from Don that I especially love – all about life being an adventure – I wrote a post about it a while back.
That red is the same red I used on the Top Secret Project – might as well use what I have on hand, right?
It’s very cold out, but hey – the sun is shining! That makes such a difference! And I can hear the wind chimes right outside my window.
Happy Sunday.
Shanna says
That’s great that you painted it red (and from the TSP, too). That’s exactly what I was going to suggest when you asked for comments…but I didn’t, for whatever reason.
Claudia says
I love red and I have a lot of it in my home – so it just made sense!
Linda @ A La Carte says
I love bulletin boards. They little bits and pieces that mean so much become a collage over time. Did you see that Jim Parsons is on Long Island Medium? I think it’s tonight but not sure, I saw an ad for it somewhere. I hope you have a good Sunday. I never did leave the house yesterday but did start taking down the Christmas decorations. I still have the tree up but that’s OK, I love the lights. I’m arranging my new pieces of McCoy and Roseville pottery. If we get some sunshine I’ll finally take photos.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
I’ve seen a commercial for it. I’ll have to check when it airs.
We have our tree up, too. I think I’ll take it down right before I have to leave next week. Have a great day, Linda.
Frog Hollow Farm Girl says
Hi, I think reading about and seeing you put things in order helps organize my own brain! Lovely memories Claudia! xxoo
Claudia says
There’s a lot more purging and organizing that needs to be done around here, but this is a good start, Ann Marie!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Jim Parsons seems like such a kind and gentle soul. I love him in BBT, but it is a credit to his acting skills ~ as it seems to be such a different character that he plays than as he is. Not sure if that is true, but from the few other things I have seen him do, he seems so caring.
I knew the bully board would be red!! And they do seem to evolve as time passes for sure.
Hope you have a productive day working in your new space!
Claudia says
He is kind, compassionate, gentle. All of the above. And very funny, of course.
I’m currently waiting for Don to return from some errands and then I will start my work. One of us usually has to be near Scout, unless she’s deeply asleep.
Mary says
That first photo make me think what room is that now? The scale is perfect, what color are you painting the fireplace. My husband and I adore Jim Parsons, such a fine actor! I recognized him right away in photo.
Claudia says
I’m thinking about the orange color that was so commonly used in those fireplaces – it would be a great shot of color!
Jim is my former student and now good friend and I’m enormously proud of him.
Mary says
Oh Yes, orange!
Claudia says
xo
Wendy TC says
I can’t stop thinking about napping on that couch of your with a lovely fire going in the Scandanavian fireplace! I hope you get what you need done before you have to leave. I know it’s difficult for you to be away for those weeks.
You’re correct about the bulletin board, Claudia. They take on a life of their own as you add and layers begin to form. We’re with the crowd in enjoying Jim Parson’s performances, and are gratified to hear he’s a good person in real life.
Claudia says
He is, I can assure you of that. One of my favorite people (and that was from the moment I met him when he auditioned for our grad program.)
Susan says
Do you play Beetles tunes while playing? I love that sofa! I am also envisioning a macrame plant hanger somewhere in the room :-) Wish I could stop by and play too. Looks like you are having so much fun!
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Claudia says
No, no Beatles! That sofa makes me smile, Susan.
Vicki says
The TSP is very stylish.
We have rain on the way here in Southern California.
Hope you have a really good week ahead…first week of the new year!
Claudia says
I’ve been reading about that rain – I know it’s much needed, but here’s to no flooding or any of the other things that can happen with a heavy rain in Southern California. Stay dry!
Vicki says
Thanks. The predictions are ominous; it’s supposed to start here around 2am. I was so concerned he did this, with a hernia operation upcoming no less, but my husband did pick up the maximum number of free sandbags at the fire station yesterday; he just didn’t fill them very full. We’ve spent the weekend, so far, doing even more rain prep. So odd, when we tried for so long to capture and save water, how we’re now trying to make sure we’re not inundated with water…but our local area is not fooling around; there have been several community meetings about emergency preparedness and they’re telling us, ‘you’re on your own’ because city workers will be too busy dealing with even bigger issues when/if we flood. You see, the problem is that the earth is so hard-packed from severe drought, compacted and like concrete, that the water won’t initially sink in but will instead just flow freely across the top and, yes, that flooding is what’s darn scary. I’m not worried about our hillside behind the house but I definitely AM worried about a dirt barranca that flows further up the road above us; it’s been a problem for almost 50 years and the city just never learns. Anyway, rain, yes; feast or famine. It’s Mother Nature and she will have her way. I just wish I had a newer roof! And that my husband had a shorter commute to work!
Claudia says
I will be thinking of you and all Californians who are facing a deluge after a long drought. Sending positive thoughts your way, Vicki.
Nancy Blue Moon says
I also recognized Jim Parsons right away…He has such a warm pleasant smile and a happy little twinkle in his eyes…I’m glad to know he is as nice as he seems….I was very surprised to read his age..he seems so much younger and looks it too…That Beatles poster looks great over the couch…it will be so much fun when Don finally sees it…The picture of your Mom and Dad is wonderful…
Claudia says
Yes, Jim has a very boyish quality –
Susie says
Claudia, loved the sunset pic from yesterday. Your board will come in handy there by the desk. Blessings for a great new week ahead. xoxo,Susie
Claudia says
Thank you, Susie – the same to you!
Janet in Rochester says
There’s sun in the Valley? Lucky you. Not a glimmer of it here. Today’s weather words are dark, gray, gloomy, dreary. And we have the kind of clouds my Dad would definitely describe as “snow clouds.” And we ARE getting ready for 3-5 inches of lake-effect tonight. The first of the season that will actually need to be scraped off cars. But the forecast has us back to 40-degree temps by Wed for the rest of the week, so that’s fine. Have a great week. ❄️
Claudia says
Well, let me change that. It got very cloudy and occasionally the sun came out, but it ended up being not nearly so sunny as I thought it would be. Have a wonderful week, Janet.
Donnamae says
That’s a really cool picture of you and Jim Parsons! I love how bulletin boards evolve over time…you know…little of this, little of that. They look to the past, present, and future all at the same time. Love that couch too…the TSP is really coming together! ;)
Claudia says
That couch is still blowing me away – how Gabrielle put it together, I’ll never know!
