On The Move

October 6, 2014 at 7:14 am by Claudia

another move

Yes, Scout, we’re moving again.

Soon, I have to start packing everything up. Again.

Patience, Claudia, patience.

I’m just hoping that Little Miss Scout adapts to this new apartment. For someone who didn’t want to deal with the hotel and the walk to the park from here, I’ve actually grown to like it. So I’d be perfectly happy staying here, but I’m sure the theater would not be in favor of paying the room fee for another three weeks. There are four other members of the company staying here, as well. We all move today.

The section of the park that is directly across the street from the apartments is busier, a lot more people and dogs walk through that area, which is good and bad. Lots of dogs in the apartment building, as well. Oh, Scoutie, are you ready for another adventure?

We had our first run-through of Hamlet yesterday and it went very well, considering most of the actors have been in rehearsal for only two weeks. Two weeks! Hamlet is one of the greatest plays ever written and the actors playing Hamlet and Claudius have massive amounts of text to memorize. That in itself is a little miracle. It’s going to be very good. We have another week in the rehearsal studio and then we move onstage next Saturday. Don’s production of Our Town starts previewing this week and opens on October 15th. Different plays, different schedules. But, we’re both working at the same time. I have to remind myself of that. It’s a good thing.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful and insightful comments on yesterday’s post.

More later. Have to get going!

Happy Monday.

I know it’s really heaps of work, but creating something wonderful while living away from home with only a few favourite possessions sounds very glamorous and Audrey Hepburn-ish to someone living in the remote north.
I hope you continue to relate your adventures, because I love to read about them! All the best with your move to the new apartment.

I would love nothing more than to be Audrey Hepburnish! My favorite movie actress.

We’re in and Scout is more than a bit thrown. Lots of panting, lots of sniffing. Hopefully, she will calm down soon.

Good luck with the packing up and moving again today. Scout seems like she’s adapting really well, especially for an older doggie. Such a good girl.

Hope the transition goes well – that Ms. Scout is certainly adventuresome – my kind of doggie!!
Yes, awesome Hamlet, and I always wonder how these actors remember their lines when they are so complicated and lengthy. I have trouble sometimes recalling my last sentence, haha!

Thanks for your e-mail reply on yesterday’s comment – and it was great to read others’ thoughts on blogging.
Take care – hope you feel better this week Claudia.
    Hugs – Mary

Scout is very adventuresome, but she gets pooped pretty quickly. Like her mom.

I was just thinking that today was your moving day. I hope you and Miss Scout adjust quickly. It must be hard for both you and Don to be away working at the same time but it’s a good thing also I know. Fingers crossed that all goes well today.
    hugs,

We’re in. Scout is exhausted. She got very scared in the van with the company manager, who drove the van with Scout in it around the corner to pick me up. She was trembling, poor girl. She’s okay now. We just went to the park.

Scout is just one happy camper – always smiling through thick & thin! Glad to read that the first run through went well – wishing it all goes great after all of the hard work everyone has putting into this producton. Just wanted to let you know that your sweet blog is like a breath of fresh air for me. I so look forward to finding a post in my emails – it really makes my day following your daily happenings with Scout and Don. Thank you for “keeping your blog real”.

Not a whole lot more room, I had a pretty big suite at the hotel, but definitely more room in the kitchen and an oven, which was missing in the hotel.

I hope the move goes smoothly and quickly for both you and for Scout, and that any kinks get worked out right away. I know you have always seemed to enjoy those apartments as well as the near-by park, and hopefully it will be less noisy as well! You know we will all be thinking about you today! Good luck!

Still noisy. There is construction going on everywhere in Hartford right now. There’s no getting away from it, I guess!

Is Scout pacing again? Maybe she will settle down more quickly this time. I’ll bet she’s fine as long as she knows Mommy’s around. And the park is the common denominator.

Who knows? All of these changes might be good for her brain. Dogs need stimulation, too. And she’s much happier than she would have been in a kennel.

When you move with a cat, you’re supposed to put a tiny bit of butter on their feet. Maybe because it gives them something to do, or maybe because, by licking their pads, they will then recognize their own scent in the new location. Anyway, it might work for dogs, too. One of those things that can’t hurt and might help. And it’s benign. Perhaps one of your readers is an animal behaviorist and can enlighten us.

Wishing you a pleasant stay in your new digs.

Well, now she is sleeping. Just plain tuckered out. She likes all the people and activities at this end of the park. I think she’ll be ok. They put in laminate floors here in place of the carpet, so I was worried about her slipping. The company manager brought me another throw rug for in fronton the sofa, so she should have some places to sleep in comfort.

Moving is my least favorite thing to do. Bentley always seems to adapt quicker than I do. Hope your move is a good one.

Three weeks in this apartment. Two weeks was spent in the hotel suite. Glad we’re here now. I can do a wee bit more ‘decorating’ and I use that word loosely, in the apartment. Hotels are already so done, there’s not a whole lot you can do.

As our dog ages, he grows increasingly panicky with each visit to my daughter’s house or when our grandchildren visit our house. He’s had a stroke, and I think he fears negotiating new surfaces or new challenges of any type. I hope Scout soon adapts. I so enjoyed reading about your satisfaction with the way rehearsals are progressing.

I’m sure Scout will make the move with no problem. I just read that cats are upset by a change in their home but dogs are not because their people are their home. Isn’t that sweet?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
