On the Road: Day Off

February 1, 2016 at 8:16 am by Claudia

2-1 quilt

It’s Monday. My day off. No lolling around for me, though, I have to type up lots of notes for the actors after yesterday’s run-through of the play, I have to go grocery shopping, I have to do laundry, I have to pay bills and I have to go to the post office. Then it’s back at it tomorrow with another day of individual actor coaching and another run-though. We’ll be running the play almost every day now as we head toward the end of the week and the move onstage.

I made it through the day yesterday and, though I was fighting pure exhaustion after my night of too-little sleep, I went out to dinner with some old and new friends and had a wonderful time. I’m so glad I did. A truly lovely evening with lots of great conversation and lots of laughter. And you know I love to laugh.

I’m thinking, looking at the schedule, I’ll be able to get home for a couple of days this weekend. The actors move onstage on Saturday and the first day of tech is on Sunday. I usually stay away from the first day of tech simply because it’s not about me and my work. It’s about lights and costumes and sound and the set and all the new elements that are being added to the production. It’s not fair to the actors for me to be taking any notes on their speech and voice – they’re concentrating on other things.

But I’ll be there off and on for the second and third days of tech – that’s when I can start taking notes on the actor’s voices and how well they carry in the theater space, as well as how clearly they are articulating the text.

2-1 globe

I picked up this little globe at the Museum gift shop the other day. I love globes and this one is just the right size for the desk here in the apartment and the desk back home. It sits on a pretty wooden circle.

I have to get moving. Too many things to accomplish today!

Happy Monday.

Sounds like a very busy day. So glad you had a wonderful dinner with friends. I find laughter to be such great medicine for whatever ails you. The globe is a perfect little desk size. Throw something fun into your day and enjoy.
    hugs,

Not a whole lot of time for fun today. I just got back from errands and now I’m doing laundry. Ah well.

Hope you were able to sleep easier last night. It makes such a difference in the day when you are rested.

I love globes and have a special one which is cradled in a fabulous metal stand held up by three elephants. I often look at it and can’t believe that I have visited so many countries – BUT I have loads remaining to see yet!

Your quilt on the wall is so special Claudia – lovely pic of it here.
Yes, your schedule sounds hectic – hopefully better weather this week for running about doing your errands. 71F here today – such a difference from last week.

    Hugs – Mary

Yesterday it was like spring around here and today it’s in the 60s. Very strange weather we’re having!

Dinner sounded like fun. I hope you laughed enough to make yourself tired enough to get a good nights sleep! The next few days sound busy…I’m sure the time will go quickly…and you’ll be on your way home. Have fun with your errands. We are busy preparing for a snowstorm of sorts…the more you prepare….the fewer snowflakes will fall! ;)

Somebody told me we’re going to get your snow eventually, but I haven’t checked the weather report. Hang in there, Donnamae! I’m hoping the whole snowstorm is a dud!

Hope you are enjoying your day off, even though you have a full to do list. I love globes too. I have instructions from PieceWork Magazine on how to embroider a stuffed fabric globe based on how globes looked in the early 1800’s. Not sure I’ll stitch one, but it’s fun to read the article. Here’s a link to the article: http://www.interweave.com/needle/projects/Globe_PF.asp

Sounds as though you have a busy day planned today Claudia. Although I had planned to be gone on a cruise this week, my health stopped that from happening. So, since today is my birthday I took myself off to the coffee shop and bought myself a chai latte with chocolate. It was delicious. And it was a very, very much a treat. I usually don’t splurge on drinks away from home, they’re so pricey. I hope you have a lovely day. Blessings, Betsy

Oh, Betsy, I’m so sorry you could’t go on your cruise! And I hope you’re feeling better. You deserve a treat and I’m so glad you gave yourself one.

I was hoping to read your opinion on Grease Live. I thought it was better than the other live TV musicals with more energy, live reaction to the songs and bows at the end – I love that part in the theater!

Didn’t watch it. I was out to dinner with friends. I’ve seen Grease onstage and in the movies, and while it’s fun, I didn’t have enough of a desire to see it again to cancel my plans! Glad to hear you liked it, Vicki!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
