Good morning and happy Easter. So far, there’s not any sun in evidence, but I’m hoping that will change. Yesterday was sunny and a bit warmer and boy, did that feel good. Is it possible, just possible, that spring might be coming?
No Easter candy to be found here. When Don and I first met, I did attempt to put some baskets together, but he didn’t really care and we don’t have kids and the last thing I need are more sweets for my already over-active sweet tooth, so we didn’t do that again. And, despite my egg cup collection, no eggs have been dyed or colored or even hard boiled.
We never do a big dinner either. Just as well, as this is the day that Don leaves for Prague. A car is coming to take him to the airport in Newark, NJ around 4:30 pm. One of the perks of being part of a film: a car comes for you and your wife doesn’t have to drive you all the way to Newark. I’ve done that before and it’s a long haul. He’ll fly all night, connecting in Zurich. I’m so excited for him. He’s a bit nervous right now with all the traveling ahead, the overnight flight, will he have a seat that will accomodate his over 6 foot 4 inch frame, all the waiting and the jet lag. Things will be better once he gets there, I imagine. Both of us have been to Europe, but it has been many years since either of us has been there. Traveling overseas is not an everyday thing for us.
Speaking of Don, I added a widget to the sidebar that will lead you to some of his music on the ReverbNation site. I know I mentioned that he recorded about 14 of his favorite songs while he was in San Diego. His friend is working on them in his recording studio, mixing and mastering them. When Don receives an edited version, he adds it to his site. So far, I think there are about 6 songs available for your listening pleasure. Interestingly, he recorded all of them right after he had the flu and he’s never sounded better!
We watched a great screwball comedy last night, The Lady Eve with Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda. Have I mentioned before what a huge Barbara Stanwyck fan I am? And how much I love those period movies with all the great character actors? Heaven. Today another of my favorites, Easter Parade, is on TCM. If I am a huge Barbara Stanwyck fan, I am a mega fan of Fred Astaire. I have just about every book written about him. Of course I already own a copy of Easter Parade, but somehow it’s more exciting when it happens to be on television. I don’t know why.
Opening day, Red Sox/Yankees tomorrow! Baseball is back and I’m a happy girl.
Have a wonderful day, eat lots of candy, celebrate.
Meredith says
Happy Easter sister, sending Don lots of love and positive thoughts for a great trip.

Claudia says
Happy Easter, sister.
Marianne says
It is a quiet Sunday in our home too. The Easter Bunny does not usually stop here either, but he was here bright and early to pick up the sweater I knit for him. It’s still so cold here. Too cold for Easter Egg hunts.
Wishing Don a safe trip.

Claudia says
Thank you, Marianne.
Debra says
Happy Easter, Claudia, to you and Don and Scout. Hope Don has a good flight. It’s getting darker by the minute here in Arlington, TX this morning, which means no hiding Easter eggs outside for my grandson. I’m disappointed, but we need the rain so much, I won’t complain.
Claudia says
I’m glad you’re getting the rain you need!
Charlene says
Happy Easter Claudia, Don and Scout. Sending Don best wishes for a wonderful, safe trip.
Claudia says
Thank you, Charlene.
Marianne says
Your husband’s voice is hypnotic. You are a lucky woman.
Claudia says
I am, indeed!
Diane says
Happy Easter! Best of luck to your husband! Love Easter Parade too, and I know what you mean about more fun when a film is actually on TV. What is that??
Claudia says
I have no idea, but it happens to me all the time, Diane!
Mary says
I love Don’s music – and had no idea he was that tall – lucky you Claudia. Being tall myself I adore taller men!
I wish him a safe and comfy travel – hopefully they’ve put him in at least Business Class – and glad you don’t have to drive all that way to Newark.
Like you, I am not dying eggs or roasting hams. I will make salmon cakes served on a bed of Indian-style ginger and garlic flavored lentils with asparagus and kale – doesn’t that sound healthy – and so pretty! Our neighbors have invited us for dessert, so nice as our kids forgot us, enough said!
Blessings for Easter and always dear friend………….

Claudia says
Your dinner sounds so yummy that if I could transport myself to your home, I’d be there! Blessings, Mary.

Yay, Spring!

I love Barbara Stanwyck too. A while back there was a Barbara Stanwyck marathon on TMC. I recorded all of them and all movies that are on TV. I have them on a hard drive. What amazes me about her is that she can look so different in her movies, from a sweet housewife type to a sophisticated, refined lady of high social standing to a lad of questionable morals, and be believable in all. I have loved old movies since I was a teenager. Most people I know aren’t into these type movies so it’s nice to read your story.
Don’s voice is lovely and I enjoyed listening to his songs. I wish him a safe and comfortable trip.
Claudia says
Thank you, Carol Ann. It’s nice to know another Barbara Stanwyck fan.
Lisa Lynn says
No candy here either, Claudia! Ok, I take that back…my son got a basket (much to his 17 yo chagrin) with all natural fruit and nut bars, some Lara bars, and one organic chocolate bar. Now I want to you forage in his basket…but I will remain strong!
Best wishes to Don! I’ve got to hear his music…thanks for sharing the link!
Claudia says
You are very welcome, Lisa Lynn.
Carol Ann says
Claudia, I love Barbara Stanwyck too and have every movie that’s been on tv saved on a hard drive. Recently there was a Barbara Stanwyck marathon on TMC and I recorded all those movies I don’t already have. What amazes me about her is that she can play such a wide variety of characters and be believable. I’ve loved old movies since I was a teenager and discovered nighttime movies when a relative passed away and left me a TV for my room.
Don has such a lovely voice and I enjoyed his songs. I hope he has a safe and comfortable trip.
debby messner says
Hi Claudia. Safe travels to Don today and hope all goes well on his new film. I will check out his singing. I thought he was tall. My husband is as well.
No candy here……but that’s good after my last blood test.
So glad that you didn’t dye, boil or color any eyes……sorry, couldn’t resist,
Getting Easter goodie bags ready for him to take into the village for our local granddaughters.
Hope you and Scout can have a peaceful Easter.
Claudia says
Oh lord. I just went back to the post and changed that typo! That’s what I get for writing a post first thing in the morning!
Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams says
Sending Don wishes for a safe trip. And Happy Easter.

Claudia says
Same to you, Jen.
Lisa Lynn says
I’m listening to his music now and really enjoying it! What a talented guy! Hope you don’t mind…I’d like to share this with hubs and friends. :)
Claudia says
Absolutely, Lisa Lynn!
Julie says
Happy Easter Claudia. No Easter candy here either but there will be a big dinner at my sister’s. I hate to say it but I bought everything to make an Easter wreath and haven’t done that either. Wishing Don safe travel and I’ll check out his music. I’m a baseball fan too but I cheer for the Blue Jays ;) J
Claudia says
Same league – that’s a good thing, Julie.
wilma swank says
Love, Love your husband’s voice. How lucky you are. Wish you could go with him on his trip. Someone has to take care of your cute pup though. Enjoy your time with him today.
I so enjoy your blog, what you write about. You’re for real. We are pretty close in age and I’ve lived through some of the same things.
Life is different now.
Happy Easter!.
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Wilma. You’re right – life is very different now!
Paula says
Happy Easter and many blessings to you and Don (and Scout!).
Safe travels for Don – I will pray for business class, eyeshades, hot towels and complimentary everything for him!
Have a wonderful day, Claudia. You bring much joy and beauty to all of our lives!
Claudia says
I don’t think it’s going to be business class, Paula. It’s public television, after all! Hey, he’s flying to Prague for free, that’s pretty cool in itself.
Annette Tracy says
Claudia, I don’t envy Don that flight, but it will be so worth it. Such an exciting adventure he’s going on, and getting paid for it! His voice is terrific. He sounds like a 20 yo. My daughter is making dinner today, I’m just the kitchen scullery crew, but it will be totally worth it. I know you’ll miss Don lots, poor Scout is probably wondering what is going on, another trip?
Claudia says
I think she senses what’s going on – dogs always do. Then when he comes back, I leave in about a week. She will not be happy.
Francine L. says
Hi Claudia!! Happy Easter!! Wishing Don a wonderful trip overseas!! This is so exciting for you both!!! I know you will miss him, but what a wonderful opportunity!! Cant wait to hear about it all!! I will listen to Don’s music – thanks for the sidebar! Hope you have a lovely rest of the day!!!
Claudia says
It is exciting – more for me than him at the moment, but that will change once he gets to Prague!
Beverly says
Happy Easter, dear Claudia. Give my best wishes to Don.
I’ll watch Easter Parade with you. It is one of my favorites.
Claudia says
Happy Easter to you, Beverly.
Suzan says
Of course I was watching Eve right along with you.. using my new free cable box hehe
We probably both watch the same shows each week in different time zones. I never tire of them..never…
Claudia says
Free cable box, Suzan? Do tell!

Happy Easter Claudia. Love he photo of Don that you used on the sidebar with his music. Handsome fella your hubby.
Claudia says
I took that photo, Kim. I love it, too.
Dottie in Missouri says
Don is probably on his way by now. Safe travels for him. Wish YOU could have gone also. Alas, money is always an issue isn’t it. I do hope Spring finally arrives for you and Scout to enjoy the outdoors and your garden. Mine is looking pretty neglected. AND NO SNOW. We are tired of it too here in the Midwest.
Claudia says
Believe it or not we are supposed to get snow showers one day this week. It probably won’t amount to anything, but enough is enough!
Tina says
Well, we’ll be here for you while you wait for his return!
Have him drink lots of water to combat the jet lag. This is a tip from a pilot friend of ours and we have found that it really helps.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I had a great day with my Grandson! No big meal but lots of fun. I’m excited for Don and can’t wait to hear more about how his trip to Prague goes. I really enjoy Don’s voice…lucky you! Hope you have a good week ahead.
Hugs, Linda

Safe travels to Don. I just listened to the first song on the website and wow, what a great song. I’ll be heading back to hear the others. No chocolate here either. I have had to stop that for a while due to some issues but I certainly miss it. However, I’m not missing it as much as I thought I would. Out of sight, out of mind, yes? Have a great week.
Hugs,
Sharon
Robyn says
Safe travels to Don!.. Happy Easter!… Lou and I didn’t do anything today either.. We “had” plan but nothing worked out.. If you stop by my blog tomorrow I wrote all about it.. I too am a big Barbara Stanwick fan. The Lady Eve is a great movie…. I love all her movies.. My TV is usually tuned to 2 different channels, either EWTN (the Catholic TV Network) or TCM.. I am a major classic movie lover.. I have a huge DVD collection as well.. Classic movies have so much that todays movies can’t even begin to touch.. Have a wonderful week! :)
Angela @ Cottage Magpie says
I have been meaning to watch Easter Parade for ages! Thank you for reminding me. My library has it so I can get it from them. I love old movies. At Christmas we watched The Shop Around the Corner and I just loved it. But I’m a sucker for Jimmy Stewart. Sigh!!
I hope you had a lovely Easter! Scout deserves an extra treat for wearing the bunny ears. Too cute!! Safe travels to Don and hugs to you!

Here’s hoping you’re having a lovely restful Easter Claudia, and safe journey to Don x
Sue ( wicked faerie queen) says
Happy Easter Claudia. It was cold and rainy on this Easter Sunday here in Ontario. I am glad and sad that Don is leaving again. Glad of course for the work but sad for the time away from you and Scout. Hope the weather gets warm quickly at least you can be outside working in the garden and enjoying the sun.
Have a lovely Monday,
Sue
Haworth says
Sounds like you had a lovely, quiet Easter Day, Claudia. I’m glad you didnt’ have to make that long drive! I hope you were lucky enough to have the sun out on Sunday, as we did? We drew flowers all over my mother’s front walkway with sidewalk chalk, hid eggs in her garden for the children to find, and then had a big dinner. And today I found pots of tulips at the local drugstore for only four dollars (half price!), so I bought TWO pots (pink and deep purple) and will be planting them in the garden once they go by. All the Easter candy was on sale, too, but I managed to avoid that aisle…. xx
Sheila says
We have such similar tastes in movies and TV, Claudia. I remember when I found out how much you love Daniel Day-Lewis. We just rented “Lincoln,” and once again, he blew my doors off as did Sally Field.
Have you watched the BBC production of “Pride and Prejudice” with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy? That is one of my all time favorite series. Jennifer Ehle is so wonderful as Elizabeth Bennet as is Colin as Mr. D.
You have to let us know when the film with Don comes out, and hopefully we can all see it.
XO,
Sheila
