This morning’s view (taken just a few minutes ago) of the living room. After a gray and rainy day yesterday, it looks like the sun is going to make an appearance.
Don is in the middle of all the celebrations going on in Houston. Congrats to the Astros! This morning, as I came downstairs, I remembered everything Houston has been through this year and, though this victory doesn’t set everything to rights, it sure must help to be able to celebrate something wonderful.
By the way, the cast of Margaritaville got a VIP tour of NASA yesterday – they got to see some stuff that one doesn’t see on the standard tour. Don had a great time. NASA even had a welcome to the cast message, with the show’s logo, on their monitor in Mission Control. Somebody bought me a T-shirt. He also got a few little presents for our Little Z. He’s a good uncle.
I’ve been bringing this plant back from the almost-dead. It’s one of the two plants that Don didn’t water when I was in Hartford. Remember? One did bite the dust, but this one had life in it so I took it back to Hartford with me. There are still bits of brown that I am hesitant to pull out because there’s often green growth further along on the stem. It’s so much better than it was!
I have errands to run today and, I think, dinner with Rick and Doug tonight. I leave for Chicago a week from tomorrow. It’s a pretty quick turnaround. But there’s a family gathering planned for the day after I get there and I don’t want to miss it. My niece and nephew will be there with their families, as well as Mere and her family.
Happy Thursday.

glad don was able to enjoy an extra-special nasa tour and be in houston to celebrate the astros’ world series win! i tend to root for the “underdogs” of the world and would have liked both teams to win the series, but obviously that cannot happen. if i had to choose, though, i am glad the astros won after all houston’s been through this year.
the more i see of those guy wolff pots with their pretty fluted edges, the more i think i need to track one down somewhere (even though i am not a good plant-keeper). your rescued plant looks good there.
enjoy dinner with your friends! am happy for you all that they’ve moved so close to you.
glad you will have a reunion when in chicago. will you be there on the 17th? that is when i will be there with my sister for our “escape to margaritaville”!
your home is so charming. love the set-up in your living room.
happy thursday!

An extra special tour of NASA? Sweet! I’m happy for the Astro’s….Houston deserves some happiness. Your plants look lovely this morning…every little bit of sunshine helps. It’s gray here today…damp…but the sun is trying hard to peek out. Enjoy your dinner with Rick and Doug! ;)
Claudia says
I had a great dinner with them, Donnamae.

I was thrilled to watch the Astros win the World Series last night. Being a Texan and having so many Houston family members it just made me so happy. What a fun thing to tour NASA, the cast is getting to experience so many wonderful things on the tour. I’ve never been to Chicago and would love to visit someday. I know anything with family involved will be wonderful. Hugs!
Claudia says
It will be. I never get to see my nieces and nephews (brother’s children) so it will be so lovely to spend some time with them.

I’m glad Don and the cast enjoyed NASA. I live about 2 miles from there and have friends and neighbors who work for the space center or for sub-contractors. And yes we are over the moon here about our Astros. (and a bit sleepy) Enjoy you time at home and especially you visit to Chicago visiting Don and family.
Claudia says
Don said the parade is today, Cindy!

When my team hit bottom and stayed there, it was time to switch over to basketball, so I haven’t been so interested in the World Series. However, my daughter predicted the Astros would win, and we’re happy about that. Have a great time in Chicago, especially a fun time with family. I’ve only ever been to the airport and Grand Central in Chicago. Maybe your travelogue will inspire me actually to visit the city.
Claudia says
I’ve spent a lot of time in Chicago over the years, but it’s been a while since I’ve had time to see the Art Institute (spectacular) for example. Staying there will give me the time to indulge a bit.

We did the Space Center tour in Florida some years ago and it was really interesting. Still want to get down there and watch another blast off by SpaceX. It’s all history in the making with so many launches going on this year. We always enjoy watching them on TV. Bet Don really enjoyed visiting NASA!
Claudia says
I did the tour in Florida as well. It was many years ago, but it was fun.

Of course this household was Dodger all the way but as soon as I realized that Houston was going to take all I too thought well good for that city after so much loss. It was a fun series regardless.
Claudia says
It was. Very evenly matched teams and lots of excitement! I often think it’s the team who, despite utter exhaustion, can pull it out in the end that wins.

How exciting to get the VIP tour at Nasa! Pretty cool – for our generation at least. It really means something to us. The younger generation – however – just doesn’t have the same point of reference. They’ve never known a time when man HADN’T been to the moon. They didn’t stay up until 2 am on July 21, 1969 [my 13th birthday BTW] watching along with Walter Cronkite as Apollo 11 astronauts did their amazing thing. They don’t have any way of realizing just what a BFD [thank you, Joe Biden] it actually is. But they will experience something similar eventually. Maybe by the time they’re 60, iTunes music will be beamed directly into the brain?? And they’ll be telling THEIR kids how – in their day – you actually had to use an iPod or iPhone to listen to music! LOL. Great about the Astros, isn’t it? Baseball is just about the only sport I pay any attention to AT ALL, and I’m glad for Houston this year. Obviously it doesn’t make up for the hurricane, but it’s nice that the Universe seems to trying in some measure to even things out a bit. Have fun with your friends tonight – it’ll be a little bit of Old Home Week, huh? Peace.

I remember the moon landing. I was performing at a local park (in a show) and we ran over to a television to see the actual landing. Very exciting.

Enjoy your trip and family reunion in Chicago.

I will. Still have a week before I head out, thank goodness!

Looks like you are doing a great job of reviving that plant Claudia!…Hope you had a nice time with Rick and Doug this evening….Soon we will be off on another adventure…I can’t wait to see what is waiting for us there!
Claudia says
I’ll share it with you, for sure!
Vicki says
I don’t want to forget to tell you this, Claudia, although it doesn’t have anything to do with today’s post. But remember at the end of September when you and I were having the long drawn-out conversation about the new Mattel 1962 reproduction doll house (Dream House) for Barbie? (Fold-up cardboard; includes a repro vintage Barbie doll as well.) Well guess what: You can now buy it on Amazon for $100 no different than on the Barbie Collector site. An Amazon secondhand marketplace seller is already trying to sell it for double the price although he/she is ‘backordered’ (whereas Amazon has it in stock).
Vicki says
When you mentioned (reminded me) that you’re to leave for Chicago in a week, I was struck by how much you and Don both have been on the go, go, go…for awhile now. Whenever it finally happens that you can both stay put, together, at the cottage for any length of time, I imagine it’s gonna almost feel strange although, of course, good.
Claudia says
December. Almost the entire month of December, less about three days, we’ll be together here at the cottage. Can’t wait!
Vicki says
Ah, you’ll have a wonderful Christmas!!
Claudia says
It will be nice to just be, you know?
Claudia says
Oh my! Have you received yours yet? (Though as I remember now, it’s supposed to be a Christmas present?)
Vicki says
Yes (you have a good memory; I’m flattered!), it came some time ago and I’m dying to open it but I promised NOT to til Christmas because, yes, it’s a gift! Mattel had it packed in SUCH a heavy outer box for shipping/handling…heavy to me…to of course protect it very well (generally, I’d be opening to inspect for any transport damage, flaws, etc.). I’m sure all will be just fine and on Christmas morning, I’ll be transported to little-girlhood. I.can’t.wait. I now have the house, Barbie, Midge and Skipper from my ‘past’; never dreamed I’d ever be able to replicate these lost, cherished toys of a child’s life. They’re all repros of course but in the outfits I mostly remember, so I’m so pleased and so oddly comforted. To get the house…reportedly identical…who woulda thunk?!!
Claudia says
How exciting! I didn’t end up ordering it and I may regret that. But I really don’t have any more space.
