On Tuesday (Sometimes I Just Can’t Think of a Title)

February 20, 2018 at 9:31 am by Claudia

There’s new growth on our apartment ZZ plant. And, though you can’t see it, I assure you there’s another baby coming out of the soil as well. Don had neglected to water the Chinese Evergreen, which was looking alarmingly droopy when I arrived. Some watering revived it. I have faced the fact that not only will I have to remember what plants need watering at home in the cottage, I’ll have to keep a  list for this place as well. Then a call will be placed to Mr. Broadway, in which I will tell him to water the plant while I’m on the phone.

Maybe via FaceTime, so I have proof.

Just before I took this photo, there was a cacophony of horn blowing as someone had double parked on the street which caused a traffic backup. Very NYC: If someone or something is not moving, lay on the horn.

Yesterday was a gray day and I underdressed, thinking it would feel warmer than it actually did. Nevertheless, I walked around 20 blocks to the Apple Store where I had to pick up a couple of things. I do like the convenience. At home, I have to drive for an hour to get to one. Then, of course, my bladder was alarmingly full, so I had to do the usual “Does this place have a public bathroom?” frantic search until I finally found one. That in itself is exhausting. I ran a few errands, took a few pictures, walked over 40 blocks in total and then went back to the apartment.

On my route:

Lincoln Center.

Further down the street and, coincidentally, right where I found a bathroom.

I’ve heard tales of how insanely busy the Whole Foods is at itsColumbus Circle location. I now have proof that it’s true. It’s overwhelming. And irritating. Next time, I’ll go to the one by Bryant Park. Much more civilized.

Don came home on his break and made dinner and then went back to the theater for Preview #3. We’re going to have breakfast at a local diner this morning before he heads to rehearsal. And I’m going to head to the Upper West Side because I love it there. Then home tomorrow. I’m hitching a ride with Doug.

Happy Tuesday.

what a wonderful place to walk around … love nyc!

think you’re not too far from one of my favorite places … ellen’s stardust diner. the food isn’t the draw for me and i’m not into 50s style, but love the singing waitstaff … and hope they get discovered for broadway!

glad you are having fun … and can catch a ride home with a friend after spending time with don.

The thing I love about a big city is walking and seeing so much! I laugh about Don and the plants. I worry about my plants when I go for a long trip since no one remembers to water like I do. Enjoy your day and I hope the sun comes out!

I remember an anti-honking campaign in the Fifties and the very noticeable-if brief-effect it had on the decibel level.

Hi Claudia, I’m so glad to see that you’re still blogging! It’s been a long time for me, but I’m back at it. Brian and I have moved to a farm in the heart of Wisconsin. I’ve got the dollhouse itch again! Sold the houses (remember Pennethorne Manor?), but am thinking of building a new one from scratch. Oh the possibilities!

    Warm Regards,
    Teresa

I think the face-time watering would be best for all involved!! Too funny.

It is election day today and my husband works the polls from 6:30AM til 8 tonight. When he called me around 10:30 they had 83 votes ~ and 38 of those were early votes. It is a rainy/ icy sort of day. School was canceled due to the icy roads, so I don’t think they will have a big turnout.

Looks like you are having a very nice time wandering the city. Enjoy your Tuesday!!

I love that street where Don’s apartment is – quintessential New York. I bet it’s gorgeous in the Spring too, when all that aptly-named Spring green foliage begins to make its appearance. One of my mother’s favorite things to do, once she became an empty nester, was to have NYC weekends – or weeks – with her girlfriends. Three or four of them would go a few times a year for nearly 20 years and Mom really got to know NYC pretty well. As well as a perennial visitor could, at least. She told me once that she’d decided that NY is really like any other town, with definite neighborhoods. All the neighborhood’s residents know each other – to varying extents – know the merchants, the restaurants, the best places to get A, B and C etc. The mailman & the delivery people know everyone’s families, stories. And she decided if she had to live in NYC, she’d want little Italy to be her neighborhood. Are you guys anywhere near there? Keep on having a great time in NYC and Don? Break a leg! Peace.🗽

Little Italy is south of us, down toward Soho, the Village, etc. It’s a fascinating – but tiring – city!

I’ll probably stay for longer periods when it’s spring. Right now, I have to be back at the house to keep an eye on things.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
