Oh boy. 10 – 15 inches of snow headed our way tonight into tomorrow. I know some of you to the west of us are already getting hammered.
Don, honey…I’m glad you’ve got that snowblower because I am not up for shoveling at this point in time. Maybe a bit of shoveling for Dame Scout’s mini-corral, if I’m feeling better, but that’s about it. Right now, even that seems an impossibility.
Let’s look at something pretty. Friday night’s sunset:
Pretty spectacular. Isn’t it nice that I can just pop my head out the kitchen door and capture this beauty?
Today’s topic: Name Your Ten Favorite Movies.
I’ll start off, in no particular order, and I know as soon as I see your lists, I’ll remember others that I love. These are movies that I will immediately drop whatever I’m doing to watch.
It’s truly hard to narrow the list down to ten, but give it your best shot.
1. To Kill a Mockingbird (no surprise there)
2. Anything with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers
3. All the President’s Men
4. It Happened One Night
5. Big Country
6. The Awful Truth
7. His Girl Friday
8. Anything with Audrey Hepburn
9. It’s a Wonderful Life
10. The Shop Around the Corner
11. Add on: Cinema Paradiso
Okay. Your turn. I may or may not comment, depending on how I’m feeling.
(I probably will.)
Happy Sunday.

Talk about eclectic….I’m pretty much all over the place. Of course, there are more. I had to go back and forth crossing things off and I’m still not sure if this is my perfect ten, but I have loved each of these movies and watched everyone of them multiple times. Is it snowing now? We live in a desert community in Eastern Washington and get very little precipitation. I don’t want to be snowed in, but we could use some more moisture and a little of the white stuff would be a treat…notice, I said “a little”. Keep warm and get to feeling better.
Claudia says
If I had an extended list, The Music Man would be on it. It makes me happy. It’s beautifully done. And it conjures up memories of my family actually going to the movie theater to see it. Thanks, Sandra.

P.S. Not listing Christmas movies here, if I were I’d have to say The Bishop’s Wife for Cary Grant and Loretta Young and Love Actually for the spectacular cast but especially my favorite actress Emma Thompson.
Claudia says
Love Emma Thompson, love The Bishops’s Wife. We recently watched 84 Charing Cross Road. I’d seen it before, but Don hadn’t. It is a simply wonderful movie. Thanks, Dewena! A good list!

I’ve had to split my list into “older” and more contemporary movies…in no particular order, otherwise that would entail more thinking, for which I cannot do after having a very late night! I loved reading everyone’s choices! Such a great list of movies. BTW, feel better!

My Fair Lady

Claudia says
Good lists -both older and contemporary, Wendy! For some reason, I haven’t seen Miss Potter and I have to fix that as soon as possible!

GinaE says
In random order: Rear Window, Seven Years in Tibet, Where the Heart Is, Mrs. Brown, Becoming Jane, Pursuit of Happyness, Painted Veil, Marathon Man, Frequency, Benny and Joon. I actually have more than ten, but these are the ones that came to mind.

Was it in The Parent Trap that Hayley Mills sang “Let’s Get Together?” I think it was. I loved that movie too!
Janet in Rochester says
Only ten? Oh good grief. At last count there are 185 movies on my “Favorites” list [yep, I actually keep a list – mostly because I don’t want to forget any]. Well, OK here goes:
All the President’s Men [love historical films]
Auntie Mamie [a tour de force for Rosalind Russell]
Field of Dreams [just magical]
The Godfather [so well-done in every way]
The Man Who Came to Dinner [the Golden Age of wit in the movies]
Moonstruck [the movie with the most number of quotable lines ever, imo]
Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House [spot-on perfect performances by every single person
Quiz Show [directed by Robert Redford, and not a wrong note in the entire film]
The Remains of the Day [same as Quiz Show – no sour notes]
State of the Union [to me the very best Tracy & Hepburn movie ever, and one you never hear mentioned].
If I can add a category or two, I’d say most everything by Frank Capra, and Alfred Hitchcock. PS – feel better soon.
Claudia says
Love Field of Dreams and never tire of it. Frank Capra? I bow at his feet. I love everything he ever directed. Same with Hitchcock.
The Man Who Came to Dinner was a play before it was movie, it was also the golden age of wit onstage!
Elizabeth says
Claudia! I was blog-hopping around and your name came up (turns out it was a different Claudia) which got me wondering what you were up to – okay, before I go any further, I have to say that I am in LOVE with your dog – that pic with him on the sofa is just the best ever. Your photography just gets better and better and I so enjoyed catching up on some of your posts. Your blog is just beautiful and I smiled all the way through it.
Okay, my list – this is challenging because I am HORRIBLE at remembering names- ANY name – movies, songs, people, actors, bands, – trust me, you would never want me as a trivial pursuit partner. But this missing gene of mine is a quirk my honey finds endearing…..
Okay, if I get the name right, here is my list:
Lars and the Real Girl
Brother Oh Where art Thou
Fiddler on The Roof (original musical)
Some like it Hot
Rear Window
Anchor Man (I know, sad, right?)
Sleepless in Seattle
