One Last Post from the Road

June 17, 2011 at 10:14 am by Claudia

This is the Blithe Spirit set. I took this last night as I waited for our second preview performance to begin. We had a full house and lots of laughter. Whew! This space is named the Up-The-Hill Theatre. Believe me – it is up a hill.(I need to get in better shape.) And for most of this theater company’s existence, it has been the only performing space. Surrounded by trees, it springs up seemingly out of nowhere. The audiences here are incredibly loyal and they make an event out of coming to the theater. They picnic and grill and generally have a wonderful time before the show begins.

See? I wasn’t kidding about the name. The newest space is an indoor theater – the Touchstone. It is smaller in size and wonderfully intimate.

I really love the design; almost barn-like and beautiful in its simplicity.

More cows.

One of the now grown-up babies. I see this little one follow his dad around. I don’t know the fate of the others. One day, I saw a cat in the little area in which they hang out. I ran downstairs, shooed it away and immediately worried about the babies. And worried. Until I had to let go and just hope they all made it. Truly, I am not far from being a person who would pitch a tent and act as a sentry to protect the babies from all predators. Ask my husband. I am inches away from being ‘that Bird Lady.’ Feel free to substitute dog, cat, bunny, baby groundhog, chipmunk. They all work.

I’m packing boxes. Making lists. Getting ready to fly home on Sunday.

Beautiful setting Claudia. I bet you are so excited to get home. Your babies will be besides themselves when they see you. Max was pouting all day yesterday because Gracie left. So sad.

Hello Bird Lady – from Frog Hollow Farm. I love the idea of grilling and enjoying time before the play begins, and really liked reading about the loyalty of the people to that little theater. Congrats on surviving your time away from your cozy home and have a safe trip back. Things have been rainy here – the weeds and flowers and veggies are all growing at record speed – but I think we’ve had our fill of rain – things need to dry out here in NWNJ. Ciao, bella xxoo

Beautiful theatre experience in a lovely area, Claudia!

Thanks for the chuckle, – Bird Lady -! I too have been standing sentry over our family of chickadees in the back garden! {need to -HACK- the bittersweet back on the birdhouse pole after they leave} The other day while cleaning off the porch and reorganizing I heard BOTH Chickadee parents in serious distress… my neighbors cat had a chickadee in her MOUTH! I went on a tear after her, but I was too late! I can’t begin to tell you how worried and upset I was. In the evening I was happy to discover it wasn’t one of the parents as it takes TWO to feed these babies round the clock! Mama chickadee is raggity and thin as a rail… poor thing! There are still more babies from all the cheeping I hear when they enter the birdhouse hubby made me many years ago now! It’s such a wonderful experience when I’m edging, weeding and spending time in my little piece of heaven here on earth… NOTHING like it! Usually the chickadees sit on the bittersweet above my head and chatter off and on to me. Now the chickadees have me trained to come when I hear them! They actually appear to look for me to come running to their aid… As soon as they see me they come from the large oak tree down to the shed just above my head as if to tell me what the problem is… better brush up on my chickadee! I’ve since boobie trapped the garden so the cat doesn’t feel as welcome til the chickadees leave. The cat still comes running for her lovings when she sees us!

Regarding your clematis… do you have it climbing anything? If not, definitely think about a birdhouse or obelisk for it to climb. My Jackmani is so covered in blooms usually every summer you can’t see the greenery. Not to mention it reblooms later in the summer.

Okay… my apologies for writing a book to YOUR blog!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
