First off, the big news that trumps everything else: Little Z’s adoption was finalized on Wednesday and he isΒ now officially a member of our family! Of course, he already was a family member in every way, but now it’s legal and official and more wonderful than ever. Such happiness!
The Invited Dress Rehearsal went fairly well – a few glitches here and there, but overall, a good performance. Once again, I’m writing this the day before it will actually post – so tonight (Friday) is the first preview and tomorrow night (when you’ll be reading this) is Opening Night. Are you confused yet? I sure am. I hardly know what day it is.
Friday morning found me writing up notes for the actors, running to the post office, buying a t-shirt (well, maybe 3) for Don (and me) and a baseball cap for him. Per request. And wouldn’t you know it? Two days before I am to leave, I ran out of toothpaste, so I bought some Colgate at the local shop.
Then off to rehearsal to give notes to the actors and watch some of the run-through. Then home for lunch. Then back to the theater office to pick up the first of my two paychecks. Now, I’m writing this post before I have to leave for the preview.
Exhausting.
Lovely people at this theater company and the work they do with students in their conservatory is wonderful.
This huge, grand old hotel faces the lake. Talk about a porch!
The lake. And a spectacular sky.
Since I don’t leave until late afternoon on Sunday, I’m going to take my time and walk leisurely around Chautauqua and spend some time by the lake. So most likely, there will be even more photos coming. Maybe I’ll discover a few more charming cottages.
And now for the second part of this post. As you know, my friend Dawn of Creative Cain Cabin and I have been hosting a Christmas Critter Felt Along. Every month, we present 2 more patterns. Last month, we introduced the Cat and the Pig.
If you missed the patterns, you can visit this post on my blog and this one on Dawn’s Blog. Normally, we host a Linky Party, but frankly, we had hardly any participants last month, so we’ve decided not to do that any longer. Don’t worry, the patterns will continue and we hope you keep on making them!
This month, we are making two new patterns, the Chicken and the Moose. Since I’m away working, I haven’t been able to make mine, but Dawn has. Here is a photo of her creations:
To download the pattern for the Chicken visit Dawn’s post here.

That’s all for now.
Happy Saturday.

I was kind of disappointed that this critter party didn’t take hold. I guess that many people just don’t take the time to sit and create something anymore. I have thoroughly enjoyed this and have quite a collection already. Thanks for keeping it going, so we get all the patterns. I have a little tree that will hold them all at Christmas. I’m looking forward to decorating it with my stash. Thanks for hosting as long as it lasted.

You’ll continue to get the patterns, Balisha. I’m so glad you took part in the linky parties – keep making those ornaments!

I know you’ve been working hard, but in such a lovely place it must also feel like a little get-away as well … maybe??? :)
Maybe they’ll have you back again!
Claudia says
Who knows? Usually, these places have a set group of people they work with and, in this case, one of those people had to withdraw at the last moment – lucky for me.

Just wondering, Claudia. Are there any theater superstitions about rehearsals going well? I thought I once heard that no one wants a dress rehearsal to click – let all the snafus happen then – so that Opening Night will go off beautifully… I know you’re never supposed to whistle in a dressing room. And saying “break a leg” to a cast member is a GOOD thing. Here’s to a flawless and SRO Opening Night! :>)
Claudia says
I used to hear ‘ a bad dress rehearsal means a good opening’ but I don’t really hear that any more. I personally don’t hold to it. But yes, there are plenty of superstitions that actors and theater people hold to – don’t whistle in the dressing room, you can’t say ‘Macbeth’ in a theater, you have to say something like “the Scottish play” etc.
Janet in Rochester says
Oh I never heard the “Macbeth” one before! Be interesting to hear the “backstories” on some of these superstitions – probably fun to read.
Claudia says
Macbeth is considered unlucky – probably because of all the murders, etc, but also because there’s a history of mishaps when performing it.

Congrats on the good news..I’m not sure who is luckier..all of the family or Little Z..I really like the critters and I can get them to download but it will not let me print them out..I have tried everything I can think of but no-go..Enjoy your last half a day there Claudia!

Congrats to Little Z and his family again. Doing the same thing 20 years ago, I know how exciting and challenging it can be at the same time.
I love this little town. I hope you get invited back again. Who knows maybe it will bring work your way in other places.
I am behind in the felt fun. I still plan on catching up. Too much going on with marketing the house. I hope to have the felt, glue, and thread handy for when I am recovering from my surgery. I need a little something to keep me busy. So don’t stop, maybe others are just backed up as well. Love that moose and chicken.
Have fun on your last day. Safe travels on the way home.

Congrats on the adoption being finalized. I know that process is long and brings about a sense of relief. I love how you bring the arts community to us. Seems like quite a process and now I guess you are reconnecting to home. Hope you made it home safely. Annie
