Our Blooming Tree, Quilts, and Theater Under the Stars

June 15, 2009 at 9:47 pm by Claudia

One of my favorite trees back at Mockingbird Hill Cottage is blooming. My husband sent me some more photos of our garden and this tree – the Catalpa. We have 4 Catalpas on the property, but this one is right by our driveway, overlooking our shed. You can see it in the picture of the cottage on my sidebar. We can see it from our living room. It blooms in June with gorgeous, fragrant blossoms. Later the tree grows large bean pods, which drop to the ground in Autumn. We are fortunate because our neighbors have one, too, and I can see it while I am standing at the kitchen sink. Unfortuately, I have missed this beautiful blooming for two years in a row. Next year – I think I am staying home! Here is a close-up of the lovely blossoms.

The quilts are coming along. I am going to baste the smaller one together with the batting and the backing tomorrow. I have been sewing squares together and then sewing rows together on the larger quilt. It is slow going. I am determined to have the quilt top finished before I leave, since that was the goal I set for myself.

All three plays I am working on are in various stages of dress rehearsal and audience previews. Cyrano de Bergerac had its first preview on Saturday night and it was magical. There is nothing like sitting out under the stars, with a soft breeze blowing, watching a wonderful production. It makes it all worth it.

Love your tree, and I’m really in love with your beautiful quilt, I have started a charm quilt, but it’s my first and I’m rather intimidated by it so it’s a work in slow progress. Your’s is absolutely beautiful. A theatre under the stars sounds heavenly.

the colors in the quilt are wonderful. These hard rains are pounding the blooms out of the trees…and the slugs are everywhere. Hope Summer starts soon.

I traveled over here from the Sassy Mini Dolls blog and I am so excited! I used to have a tree like that in my yard as a child and I have been trying for a couple of years to find out what it was called and here it is!!!! I loved that tree! Your blog is beautiful- good luck on your dollhouse adventures- they are so fun!!!

The tree is just beautiful, Claudia!! I absolutely love trees (as you probably knew from my ‘secret garden’ post on our new sitting area)… We’re only on 1/3 acre or I would go out and find a Catalpa tree to plant! It sounds heavenly!

You are so talented with sewing and quilting! Definitely not one of my strong suits. The colors you chose all go together so beautifully.

Your night under the stars sounds like the perfect way to watch the production!! … Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
