How about some photos of NYC today? After editing them in Lightroom, I realized a lot of them are of green spaces and parks, due, I’m sure, to my need to take refuge from Tuesday’s heat.
This gorgeous stand of trees is located on 81st Street, just off Central Park West.
Ummm….that’s a lot of leaves on the ground for August. Gulp.
Central Park West and 81st. Several years ago, I was up here every day when I was coaching Shakespeare in the Park. The best part? Walking along the streets at night, catching a glimpse of the interiors of the apartments; a bit of curtain here, some bookshelves there, a beautiful lamp, art on the wall.
A brownstone. Check out the gorgeous detail.
More brownstones. They don’t make them like this anymore. Unfortunately.
Be still my heart. May I please have a little pied à terre in this building? I’d be perfectly happy with a little studio apartment where we can spend the night when we have to work in the city.
That seems reasonable, doesn’t it?
Love this. A bakery full of cakes and cupcakes. (I managed to keep myself from entering the door, but it wasn’t easy.) Love the fonts used in their logo.
Perfect.
Now I want a cupcake.
Union Square. Nearby? The Strand bookstore.
And from home:
More morning glories. Sigh.
If you stop by Just Let Me Finish This Page, you’ll see that I’m having an extra-special giveaway.
Yep.
Happy Thursday.
Thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures.
You’re welcome, Julie!
Lovely pictures Claudia…though that first one does look suspiciously like Fall, doesn’t it? I do wonder what we are in for this winter…hopefully not much (fingers crossed). Decades ago my husband and I had a friend who had a party every Friday night in his place on South Street in Phila. We talked for years about how wonderful it would be to have an apartment in the city that we could retreat to after the party instead of driving 45-60 minutes home at 2 a.m. Well, we never did get one (no way could we afford that!), and thankfully the late night parties on South Street have ended — not sure I could keep up with them any more. My son and his girlfriend went to a few Shakespeare in the Park events — loved them. So glad you had such a fun, fun day!!
I used to live very near South Street, Vera. I remember it well!
Love your pictures from your day in NYC – especially those dreamy brownstones! Thanks for taking us along, and also for sharing about meeting Louise Penny yesterday.
You’re welcome, Debbie!
Thanks for sharing the photos of NYC. I’m thinking my hubby, 14 year old son and and I need to visit someday soon. About 25 yrs ago, hubby lived in Hoboken and worked in the city for a year, so at least we’d have someone familiar with the “land”. I have never been “in” NYC….only “outskirted” it with work years ago from either Newark or La Guardia airports to Palisades or Long Island. (As a side note: In 1999, I remember flying over the city and looking down at the world trade center thinking how awful it was that somebody had bombed it years earlier – I took a mental picture of that view – and it will be forever emblazoned in my memory. Who could ever fathom what would happen 2 years later). Anyway, thanks for the inspiration…once again!
You absolutely should visit the city, Deb. It’s full of interesting places to visit.
Your pictures tell me that I really must visit NYC. Oh my gosh!
I wonder though how long ago you walked at night? I mean you always here how unsafe it is to walk there at night.
Your telling of the visit, and now the pictures have inspired me to figure out how to make this dream come true.
I don’t think it’s more unsafe to walk in NYC at night than it is in any other city. New York is active, with a lot of people walking around at night. In fact, I feel much safer there than in other cities, Trudy.
Lovely pics! I think it would be fantastic for you and Don to have a pied à terre! Along of course, with your country home. Oh…to dream! ;)
It’s a big old dream…some might say a fantasy!
So nice..I love those old brownstones too..those fallen leaves are unbelievable..Glad you had a good day!
I had a lovely day, Nancy!
What beauty, showing thru in your pictures! Enjoy every moment of the city adventure ! BTW, I’ve been receiving the email again and don’t have to go thru the blog site. Don’t know why it changed and now changed back. Anyway, thanks for the beautiful pics today!
So glad you’re able to get the emails, Kelly!
Even when hot and humid, New York is always interesting and beautiful. Wouldn’t it nice to keep a little place in the City? Not TOO little, after all you guys are tall. But your needs are essentially simple, right? Enough room for a king-sized bed, a table for two, a couple of comfy chairs and a roomy subway-tiled bathroom. I would love seeing how you decorated it. Either that – or that a summer cottage/beach house somewhere along the Connecticut shore. So much fun to think about. And who knows???
It would be heavenly, Janet. It would make things a lot easier for us! I’ll keep dreaming…why not?
Gorgeous architectural details on those brownstones! I think you are a nature girl at heart and even in the city the solace of trees and planters speaks to you! Thank you for sharing your walk.
Happy to share it, Linda. NYC is pretty wonderful.
Everything look so clean! And I didn’t see crowds of people!! Is this really NYC?!?

NYC is pretty clean, Jane – if you want crowds, head to Time Square! I avoid that area whenever possible!
No crowds, please! I want to go back to Italy in the off off season, when there aren’t masses of people everywhere.
In my ignorance, I thought NYC was crowded. Glad to know it’s not all congested!

I was only in NYC once back in the 70’s. I love these photos and seeing the real NY not just a few tourist places. I would love to go back one day!
hugs,
Linda
I hope you get to go back there, Linda. (I usually stay away from the touristy sites, if I can help it!)
I love the Upper West Side along Central Park. So much history (everyday and otherwise). Thanks for sharing the pictures.
I’m not a big city girl, even though I grew up in the shadow of the big apple. However, there is some real beauty in the architecture and the natural spaces, and you capture them beautifully here. If I had to reside there (probably couldn’t afford it!).. but those brownstones are lovely, aren’t they? The actual STONES in NYC come from a quarry just a few towns over from here and I have seen the brownstone in it’s natural state.
