I have yet to respond to your comments but thank you so much for your thoughts on Gordon Lightfoot. We played his music for much of the day yesterday. He will be deeply missed.
My goal yesterday: trying to outrun the rain in order to mow the front lawn. After so much rain it was still very wet in places. And we have more coming.
So, in the afternoon, when I thought enough time had passed to lessen the soggy patches, I got the lawnmower out and mowed. I did it at a faster pace than I usually do because I could see clouds darkening on the horizon. I ended up taking a short break when it started to rain, then I was back at it until I got to the lower third, where it was so wet I could no longer continue.
Needless to say, I’m tired today. But I am conscious that I am the only one who can mow this week and the grass is very, very long. So I had to make a start. Rain today. Rain tomorrow. And then, finally, a break. I’ll go back at it on Saturday after we’ve had a day to dry out.
Let’s not mention all the weeding and pruning that has to be done, all of which has been neglected due to the rain. It feels overwhelming.
Pip is wearing a new outfit that I got from a seller in Spain. Since she already had a yellow barrette in her hair, as well as yellow shoes on her feet, she was chosen as the model.
I still haven’t heard from Brenda, which I find very concerning. It’s not like her. Send some prayers her way, please.
Today I have to buy some more groceries. Don doesn’t have a follow-up appointment until Monday and he’s getting frustrated. Restless. I don’t blame him. Hopefully, in six more days, the bandages will be removed and he’ll have more mobility.
He talked to Adrian yesterday and he sounds like his old self. Our mantra here is “Think of Adrian” – we invoke it whenever we are tempted to complain too much about hand surgery or sinuses or allergies or sore joints.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

i am sorry that the rain is intruding on your love of gardening and need to mow the lawn. a break will come!
glad to hear adrian is mending. i feel and pray that underneath those bandages, don’s thumb is healing, too.
agree … i’m worried about brenda not posting here or replying to you. praying for her and everyone else.
despite measuring several times, i have to get two pieces of wood re-cut for the removable, free-standing shelves to go in that cupboard i bought a few weeks ago. those re-cuts were delayed by more than a week for being sick, but will get done today, then sometime soon my brother will help me put it all together. my only question now is if i should add wooden supports under the shelves or will long screws be enough to hold lots of books? am definite on two things … my decision to not paint the shelves (even though i love painting) and that i will be glad and grateful this project is done.
(note to myself … think of adrian!)
happy wednesday! stay safe!

The shoes!! <3
This rain is giving me agita! So much to do and it always seems when the sun out I have appointments or work.
Glad your friend, Adrian, is on the mend. Medicine has come so far.
It's a good day to snuggle under a quilt, read and have a cup of tea.

I didn’t comment yesterday but I am sad to hear of Gordon Lightfoot’s passing also. I loved his music and we saw him in a small venue about 9-10 years ago I think. He was rather frail looking then.
I am somewhat in the same boat as you with an incapacitated husband. Mine hurt his hip but we have no idea how…just started hurting…so he is limping around with a cane. He also has been sick with an upper respiratory thing for almost 2 weeks. His coughing is getting on my nerves and he refuses to go to the Dr. I’m wondering if he has the same thing you and Don had, as this just seems to be hanging on. So far, I haven’t even gotten a sniffle. I think I should have caught it by now. He has tested negative for covid twice. You are right, this is a minor inconvenience compared to your friend Adrian. I’m glad to hear he is doing well.
Take care

I’m not the biggest music person, love listening, but I don’t really follow songs and artists. I heard that Gordon Lightfoot passed and was definitely familiar with his name, but didn’t know what he sang. Then I heard him singing on the news clips, and I knew all his songs! Sad loss!
You were really trying to dodge the rain! Good that you got some of the mowing out of the way… for now!
Glad Don is getting closer to using his hand more…takes time.
Hope Brenda is ok.
Glad Adrian sounds well .
Take care!

dear Claudia/Don — glad you were able to mow — lots of effort/energy to do — just ask my Mr !
hope Don can rest/recuperate in good time — so frustrating to be on the sidelines, time is his
best friend. “if you could read my mind” keeps playing in my head — some people are so gifted/talented, the rest of us can only sit back and enjoy. keep safe/healthy

Brave girl to tackle that big wet lawn, Claudia. Take it easy today. Don has a few more days before he sees the doctor. Hopefully he’ll get a good report. It is worrisome that you haven’t heard from Brenda. Glad Adrian is doing well. Love Pippa’s new dress. Blue and yellow go together so well. And aren’t they just the cutest shoes? Hugs, Elaine

How lucky you all are to have rain and green grass! It is snowing here today in Anchorage and although it will change to rain, hopefully, this afternoon, it’s a bit depressing right now. My cat hissed at the snow through the window this morning. So I am very jealous that spring has shown up in other places.
But Claudia I am also glad that we have a service that mows the grass here—I don’t envy you that task. But it is good exercise and you seem to enjoy getting it done.
Healing is very hard and makes us impatient. Hopefully Don will give it the time and PT to get his hand to work correctly. Still having mobility is a blessing as we age. Both of you take care.

Feeling rather overwhelmed myself. Too much to do both inside and out, and so little time it seems. Sorry to hear about Gordon Lightfoot….he will always be one of my favorites…feels like we grew up with him.
Went to the nursery yesterday and today…have most of the plants I wanted to get. But then I forgot about one area…so back later this week. Too early yet to plant here, I never plant before Mother’s Day. And there’s always the chance the temps will dip too far…it is Wisconsin after all. Our grass desperately needs to be mowed too. The city and surrounding towns are encouraging No Mow May, for the bees. But….we just don’t know if we can do that. So we decided to mow in the next couple of days, then let it go for two weeks…or three. We will try it…for the bees.
I really hope you hear from Brenda soon. I’m hoping her computer is just down or something. Please keep us informed. Glad to hear though that both .Don and .Adrian are doing well. Recovery requires patience….lots. Enjoy your evening! ;)

Donnamae, on the news last night they said that they recognize that not mowing for the entire month might not work for some because of the heaviness of the grass that would result, & many mowers couldn’t handle it, so they recommended only mowing every 10-14 days. I think that is the path we are going to take. So very excited about the temps forecasted for the next 10-14 days here! Finally!!!!
Donnamae says
10-14 days I can handle. Thanks for the info..that actually makes sense! ;)

My yard looks like No Mow May — and it’s too wet to deal with it. We leave tomorrow for four days in Cleveland (and they are supposed to be nice) so it’s not happening then, either. I hope the neighbors don’t send notes. (They never have, but it’s not looking nice!)
I love that puzzle. Can’t wait to see “more ” of it!

I am so sad that you haven’t heard from Brenda. Keeping her in thoughts and prayers.
So happy to hear Adrian is sounding better each time you speak with him. Recovery is the toughest part of an illness or condition; If only they could prescribe a “patience pill” to make it easier.
Glad you will have some down time before you have to mow again. It is surely growing quickly here!! Take care.

Whew, all that mowing sounds exhausting. Be careful out there. I’m trying to get Dean to participate in No Mow May here for the front yard and then in June plant lots of prairie/native grasses and flowers. We have a huge Linden tree dead center in front. I mean it is humongous. That means there’s not much grass growing under it anymore. The backyard was turned into garden years ago so that leaves just the front and south lawns to mow. He’s going to be 65, I tell him. I’m trying to make life easier, I say. No deal.
