Postcard from Iowa

September 23, 2008 at 3:39 pm by Claudia

The view from my car window.
Iowa is full of farms – beautiful farms everywhere. As I drove from Cedar Falls to Cedar Rapids today, I saw vast areas of crops, dairy cows, silos, beautiful barns, and horses. The landscape was very flat for most of the trip until I got closer to Cedar Rapids where there were rolling hills. Why was I going to Cedar Rapids? To buy my new MacBook!!!!! I’ve been wanting one for so long. We have an iMac at home, but my husband is on it a lot for his work, and I am on it a lot for mine. This year I’ve been on the road working quite often and I realized that a laptop was becoming necessary. The nearest place to get one was in Cedar Rapids…hence my trip. It was a lovely drive and I enjoyed being back in CR once again. My best friend and her family lived there in the 80’s and I visited them. I only made it to the outskirts of CR but that necessitated a call to my friend to say I was in her old stomping grounds.
Another reason for the laptop? I get to blog on the road.
Back to the real reason I’m here. Sweeney Todd opened last night and was greeted with a standing ovation. The cast was terrific; they have done an enormous amount of work in a very short time. It is a powerful production. I will watch it tonight and take notes one more time and then I am off to Florida for 4 days of work in The Wizard of Oz. I will post again soon.

Sunday morning

September 21, 2008 at 8:42 am by Claudia

Our skylight sometimes bathes the Guardian Angel print in beautiful light. Its as if a spotlight has been aimed right at the print. Beautiful. This Sunday morning finds me trying to get everything together before I leave on another trip. It sure seems like I have been traveling a lot. This time I go to work on two shows; first, Cedar Falls, IA to work on Sweeney Todd, then Gainesville, FL to work on The Wizard of Oz. Then its back home for a week, then off again for a few days to work on Oz. Then my sister comes to visit for our (hopefully) annual trip to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival. We had a great time together there last year. The end of September and October will be busy!

But first things first, I must pack and figure out how to take everything in a carry-on. Flying to Iowa involves three separate flights! This will be a long day. Hopefully, I will be able to keep in touch on the road. We’ll see. I hope your weekend is restful and happy.

More later.

Chilly mornings = knitting

September 18, 2008 at 5:38 pm by Claudia

The last few days have brought a chill to the air. I wake up in the morning and I feel like I need slippers and a little shawl to wrap around me while I drink my coffee. And even though I said I only wanted to crochet, I have been obsessing about knitting. I’ve been looking through books and magazines admiring all the great patterns. As I am about to go out of town again, this time for work, I need a project to have on hand for down time at the hotel(s). I was looking through a book and found a bulky knit sweater that should knit up rather quickly. Finding super bulky yarn locally took a bit of work but I found this:
The yarn is Burly Spun by Brown Sheep and the pattern is in Simple Chic by Jill Eaton. Its just your basic oversize V-neck pullover. These may be a bit bulky to pack….oh, oh. Here’s the sweater:

We’ll see how it goes. I’ll try to post again before I go on Sunday.

More later.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
