Under the weather

May 23, 2008 at 1:27 pm by Claudia

I woke up this morning with a definite head cold. Drat! I suffer from bad allergies, so I’m usually feeling some kind of congestion, but this is different. I feel just plain yucky. Try as I might, I am unable to do much of anything but putter with the blog and put a coat of paint on the cabinet. I planned to mow, but who am I kidding?

I had to delay plans to have my niece and her family here for the day on Sunday. We’ll have to do it next weekend. In the meantime, here is a picture of one of our peony bushes (from last year). Right now, the buds have formed but none have opened. They will flower in a couple of weeks. I love my peonies. They are planted down at the edge of the property, near the road. I’m sure they have been here for years. How I wish their bloom time was a bit longer…they are such lush, beautiful flowers. Have a great weekend and a wonderful Memorial Day.

A Different View

May 21, 2008 at 2:23 pm by Claudia

When we bought this cottage, we were happy that there were mini blinds on all the windows, and wooden blinds on the windows in the den. The only windows that had nothing were the ones in the kitchen. After a while we decided the kitchen needed something and we settled on red roman blinds. We use them most often in the winter because they are insulated. It can get very windy here.

Up until now, I’ve left the rest of the windows in their original mini-blind state. I must admit that deciding on a window treatments is overwhelming for me, especially when I want to spend very little money. My niece had these tie-up shades in her home and we always admired their simplicity and cottage-like feeling. She found them at Target.

So the other day I went to Target, and bought three shades for the living room. What a difference! I know its not earth-shaking, but we really love these. They add so much to the living room and they most certainly add to the cottage charm. I shy away from anything that I determine to be “too cutesy” – my husband assured me that these are not cutesy but just right. Sigh of relief!

Its funny how a little change can make such a big difference.

New Look?

I’m experimenting a little with the look of the blog. I don’t have a scanner, so I thought I’d try one of my photos behind the title. Rather than constantly tinker with it, I’ll leave it for a few days and see what I think. If you have any thoughts, feel free to leave them!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
