Yesterday’s post should have been Part 7 of the egg cup tour, but I just realized that I had two Part 6 posts in a row! Oy. So I went back and edited the title of the post. As for today, we’re on Part 8 and it’s a dark, rainy, sleety day, so taking photos is difficult.
Hence, we move to the home of the dolls to get a better photo:
The one on the left was a gift from my longtime online pal, Linda. It’s so adorable. Not showing in the photo is the tail, which is removable and functions as a salter for the egg. And let’s face it, the color of that adorable egg cup is perfect for me. That little sticker says “Our Own Import.” I love it when the original stickers are still intact.
In the center, a little egg cup with a pale blue/lavender lustreware cup. Made in Japan. It usually holds a marble egg that I’ve had for years.
On the right, a beautiful goose egg cup from France. I really love this one; it’s so graceful and beautiful. Interestingly, I found it in a local antique shop – and by local, I mean in the Hudson Valley somewhere. It’s rare for me to find an egg cup I’m interested in buying around here.
Thank you to those of you who are taking the time to comment on these posts. I wasn’t going to do an egg cup tour, but a lot of you mentioned that you’d love to see them again. So, I’m taking the time every morning to choose the cups and photograph them so that you can see them. I know that newer readers might not have seen them before.
Anyway, this is a very busy time for me and I appreciate it when you take the time to leave a comment. Otherwise, I find myself wondering if I’m losing readers or just plain boring you and comments are definitely down since I started this tour. Should I not do these anymore?
To those of you who do take the time to comment, thank you. Normally, this isn’t an issue and I have said many times that you don’t have to worry about commenting, but please remember that this takes time. Once I commit to showing you the egg cups, and there are a lot of them, we are talking about several posts. In fact, I’ll have to take more photos than usual this weekend because I will most likely be working in NYC every day next week, which means I will have to write posts ahead of time.
All this is to say that bloggers or writers on Instagram or Facebook appreciate feedback, especially if they’re doing a series or compiling information for you. It’s free of charge, but it takes a lot of time on our end.
I did a lot of prep work for the play yesterday and will do more today. Then I’ll spend my time on Sunday reviewing everything so I’m ready for work on Monday.
We haven’t heard anything so we’re sure Don did not get the job. He’s very disappointed and down.
Thanks for your positive thoughts, my friends. We never take that for granted.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Egg cups are something I’ve never noticed, so thank you for sharing your interesting collection. I’m going to keep my eyes open if I ever get back to the antique store rounds I used to make – now that I am out of the habit it just never happens. Maybe a project for April?
Sorry about the whole non-materializing job for your lovely husband. Winding roads, eh?

Thanks so much, Ceci.

I’m sorry to hear that Don didn’t get the job he was going for. My youngest brother always says, “Things have a way of working out.” so I hope something better comes along for Don. The egg cups are so cute and you are so good at collecting things!
Stay safe, Claudia.

Thanks so much, Ellen.

I enjoy your egg cup posts Claudia! Looking at the cups takes me back to my girlhood kitchen with my Mom. Those memories warm my heart.
Claudia says
Me too. I remember eating soft-boiled eggs in my childhood egg cup. Very strong memories.
Thanks so much.

Thank you for the egg cup tour. I rarely miss a day reading even if I don’t comment. Thank you!

Thank you, Janet. I appreciate that.

i hope and pray a great job comes don’s way soon. and i say again, everyone who wants a job (let alone needs one) should have one and that the world could use more of don’s talents.
glad your work is going well. will you travel to and from nyc each day next week or might they put you up in a hotel? hope that goes well and the way that you want.
i hope you post whatever you want whenever you want and without pressure. while i don’t have a collection of egg cups, for example, i don’t need to have one in order to enjoy seeing photos and descriptions of your egg cups here … because i see sweet things and learn about a friend and what interests her (and i may or may not decide to start collecting egg cups). either way, it’s all good from my point of view.
thank you for taking time to take photos, write and share bits and pieces of your life with us, for creating a spot where people gather and get to know and care about each other. a place where i’ve received much kindness, support and friendship over many years and tough times (thank you all). claudia, you started that by your willingness to open your life and heart here on the internet/mhc. thank you!
also, of today’s set, the goose egg cup is my favorite … in part for love of geese and for that long neck staying safe all these years. :)
be careful with that sleet-y weather!
happy, safe saturday to everyone.
kathy
Claudia says
The goose is the only egg cup that I didn’t send to Country Living when they were going to take pictures for their feature. I didn’t trust the shipping process not to injure the neck.
Thank you for all your kind words, Kathy. They mean a great deal to me.

Judy says
I went on eBay and Etsy last night looking for egg cups. Every time I found one I loved it was located in Australia! The shipping was of course outrageous, so I passed on those. I haven’t been out to an actual antique mall in ages. So, I will just enjoy your egg cups. Thanks for posting them again.
Claudia says
I remember ordering egg cups from Australia back in the day! I haven’t done that for a long time, though.
Canada often has a lot of egg cup listings, Judy.

That goose is amazing!
I’m sure the perfect job will come along for Don. It’s vey hard to stay on an even keel when in limbo. I hope a better opportunity comes his way soon.
I always read and enjoy your posts sometime it’s late at night or I have people needing my attention so I don’t comment. I love reading about your corner of the world. :)
Claudia says
Thanks, Betsy.

Linda says
I am sorry Don didn’t get the job but maybe the timing is not right and that he needs to take care of his thumb.
Constant pain can be very difficult I know from experience.
Have you ever thought of not posting every day and that way it would free up your time.
Claudia says
I like posting every day and I need the ad income to pay for the costs of maintaining this blog, Linda.

I do love your egg cups. I marvel at your collection….they are such a delight.
Spring has been delayed here…we are currently at 9.5 inches and counting of heavy snow. There are just no words that are fit to print. Hopefully it will melt quickly.
I do hope things turn around for Don…my fingers are always crossed for him. Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Oh no! I’m so, so sorry, Donnamae. I would be ready to scream and I’m guessing you are.
Sending wishes for it to melt quickly.

I love seeing your egg cups and reading about their history. I love the egg cup you posted a couple of days ago of the chick pulling a cart. It was sweet and I think it could tell stories of where it has been been that would be very interesting.
Take Care,
Kaye.

That egg cup is so sweet.

I am here reading your posts everyday even if I don’t comment. I just haven’t had anything to say recently. I always enjoy seeing your egg cups…any of your collections actually.
I’m sorry Don didn’t get the job. I don’t think I could handle the rejections that come with being an actor.
Perhaps the Universe is letting him know this is the time to do his thumb surgery.
Take care
Claudia says
I don’t know that it’s the Universe, but they won’t call him for at least a week, and then they’ll schedule it. So he would have had to wait anyway.
Thanks so much, Marilyn.

Barrie says
That goose is pretty cool…must be looking for the golden egg! I’m thoroughly enjoying your egg cup tour! I love those collectibles. Most antique stores near me have closed…easier and less expensive to put things for sale online…but, I sure miss them!
Fingers crossed that Don has a new job to come up in the very near future!
Claudia says
Oh, it’s so much better to be able to roam around an antique shop rather than online, don’t you think? I think lockdown was too much for a lot of small shops. One of my favorites in my area closed after lockdown. Broke my heart.
Thanks so much, Barrie.

I love seeing your egg cups. You are not boring ! Just keep doing what you do so well.
Posting every day is a lot of work . I am one of your faithful fans! I always start my mornings with my cup of coffee and your blog. I will comment a little more so you know that you are connecting with me.
Good luck with your work and travelling to the city.

I love seeing your egg cups, Claudia. We both have large collections and I’m amazed they are all so different from each other. Only one or two duplicates. And thank you for writing your blog. I’ve gone back in the archives and read every one of them. I’m currently reading your sister’s archived blogs. How are Meredith and Little Buddy? Hope they are both thriving. I have great admiration for her devotion to Little Buddy. Our weather is much the same as yours so I am keeping busy wrapping birthday gifts for a friend and making Don’s apple pie. I can certainly understand Don’s disappointment in not getting the role he auditioned for. Hopfully, something will come along that is even better. Take care as you prepare for your work in New York city next week. Safe travels. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Meredith, thanks to her horrible husband, is going through a very tough divorce. Yes, she and Z are in their house, but my can’t-wait-until-he’s-my-ex-brother-in-law is trying to hurt her at every turn. She is under enormous stress constantly.
Thanks, Elaine.

Elaine in Toronto says
Oh, dear, I’m so sorry to hear that. Divorce is so much harder when one party refuses to cooperate. I’m glad Meredith has your love and support. Hugs, Elaine

Enjoy seeing the egg cups again. My egg cup collection consists a single cup. It is pale cream with a beautiful soft green wide band at the top. An under saucer is included. The egg cup is part of a 7 piece breakfast set I inherited from my great aunt.

It sounds beautiful, Zizi!

Dear Claudia, I very rarely comment on any blog I follow, but l enjoy yours so much! All your collections are fascinating, and if I didn’t already collect cow creamers and little pitchers and ‘faux faux’ Wedgewood, I would be sorely tempted by egg cups! Your gathering is superb! Wish you and Don the very best, and hope many other opportunities come your way. Best wishes always, Mary S.
PS My best friend in high school was Claudia, and I love that name. She had the most extraordinary green eyes.

Claudia, I remeImber many yrs ago when I first saw your egg cup collection and realized I had a few of them put up on shelves and in boxes. I do love them. I love when you share any bits and bobs of your collections ~~!!~~
As Donnamae said, we got about 11 inches of snow over night. Happily, quite a bit has already melted. It was our Granddaughter’s 3rd BD party downtown in Madison at Madison Children’s Museum this morning. The weather didn’t deter many of her little guests, which was wonderful. If we could only bottle up THAT energy from a room-full of 3 and 4 year olds!! Wow!
I hope there is something in the wings for Don that will happen soon. Good luck in your week ahead as well!! Take care…
Vicki says
How can she already be 3? The time doth fly. I remember when you were expecting her, start of the pandemic, and when/if you could see the newborn, Chris!
chris K in Wi says
I know!! We can carry on conversations now, and it is oh-so-much fun!!!! Tea parties and lots of stories. Mondays, when we have her, is our most favorite day of the week!!!!
Claudia says
I’m happy to hear that snow was melted rather quickly. Enough already, Chris, right?
Thank you. Can’t believe your granddaughter is 3!

Dee+Dee says
Your posts are never boring! I read them everyday and yours is the only blog that I post on. I might have mentioned before that I rescued two 1950s egg cups, one in the shape of a squirrel and the other is a duck both made in England. They belonged to my ex husband and his brother as children and when his mother passed away I think he was going to get a house clearance guy in to dispose of everything!
Sorry to read that Don may not have got the job. Let’s hope there’s a next time soon.
The clocks move forward one hour this weekend for British Summertime. Can’t wait for the lighter evenings.
Happy Saturday
Claudia says
So happy you rescued those egg cups, Dee Dee!
Thank you.

I haven’t commented in the past three or four days because I’ve just been feeling a little overwhelmed, seemingly not enough hours in the day, with much to do before my husband’s rather complicated surgery next week and also finishing up my writing series for the small-town newspaper (I’ve done 30 stories/’articles’) because I need that out of the way so I can tend to my ailing husband in the next few weeks (ailing for now, but better to be once he gets thru this what-should-be LIFE-IMPROVING surgery!); also, it seems all I can ever talk about here (on your blog) lately is the Southern Calif wild weather which I know gets boring to other people; and of course I comment with ‘way too many words, always; so, sometimes I feel I should give it a rest at MHC.
However, I LOVE YOUR EGG CUPS, Claudia. You know that I do! I appreciate that you show them to us every year. (And where are your fabric Easter eggs for the bowl or basket?? Your little crocheted bunnies?) I will say again, and it’s embarrassing to admit it, but … til you! … I didn’t even know what an egg cup (or a butter pat) was! The only eggs I’ve ever been able to tolerate (for eating) are scrambled; I can’t even stand a hard-boiled egg in potato salad. I didn’t know the purpose of an egg cup because I don’t eat eggs like that (and never was around anybody who did [my dad actually ate FRIED eggs; yucky to me]). I’m about to try out a friend’s recipe for tuna casserole because I’ve never eaten tuna-fish in my life (old allergies from childhood) so maybe there’s still a chance for me to try a soft-boiled egg in a cup! It’s quite British, isn’t it!
Your cup collection is marvelous; you SHOULD show it off, as often as you can, and this is the perfect place to do it; of course I always tell you that the egg-cup cabinet you found, and in the location you found for it in your house, is perfect.
I’m praying for a job for Don. Lots of prayers these days (selfishly, from me, for me); for friends, for my husband, for the world; I hope my prayers add to those of others to make one huge, meaningful prayer for everybody. I get a little weepy at this time of year because I so love Easter and the start of Spring. It’s such a time of hope and renewal.
Good luck with the start of work on your play Monday. We’ll be doing last-minute errands here (before MORE RAIN on Tues/Weds). It’s really continuing to be just unbelievable that as we approach April, we still have snow on our Southern Calif mountains where in other years, if we were lucky, we might have some in early January only; like, this is still very-visible and beautiful snow, no matter where I am in our little town (just look up and there it is; stop for a second, be in awe). It is so nice to think of the months ahead with no drought. I haven’t been able to say that in ten years. I hope you have good weather going back and forth into The City.
Thanks again for the post. I appreciate every photo you put with your words each day. Besides being a collector, you’re also a terrific photographer, Claudia!
Vicki says
The bunnies might have been knitted by you, not crocheted. They’d go over the egg cups. Just darling.
Claudia says
Yes, knitted. I’ll try to show them soon.

Vicki, it is amazing what the power of prayer and kind thoughts can do. I know I have offered up thughts and prayers to many over the years, but when I needed them (and, of course, still do) I could actually feel their presence. It is amazing! Know that you and your hubs are in mine!! ♡
Vicki says
Chris, how kind of you to leave this comment for me. Thank you. You know, we all worried about you here, you were noticeably absent and missed, and it’s so good to see your comments again on Claudia’s blog.
Claudia says
We love fried eggs – in fact fried egg sandwiches are one of my favorites!
I’m sorry for the worry concerning your husband, Vicki. I know that must be stressful, but it sounds like he’ll be so much better afterward. You know we’re thinking of you and praying for your well being and a successful procedure on your husband.
Sending love.

I am so happy to see that sweet bird egg cup in your collection. It was such a fun find and I knew it belonged with you. So sorry Don didn’t get the job. It has to be hard. Wishing you a good work week.

I feel that we are connected….all of us …that we have been able to share so much …..pandemic, politics, the simple and beautiful and the ups and downs of life. So…..count me in among many who appreciate your effort and look forward to your quirky little sketches that are really very charming. You and Don are the real deal…..and we (your readers) would miss you.

I’m so sorry that Don didn’t get the job. That’s disappointing, especially when getting so close.
And as for the egg cups, keep ’em coming! I see you are a teal-woman. Me, too! That one’s a cutie and I love the flying duck as well. A collection of a lifetime — super special!
Claudia says
I love teal. It’s the kind of collection that won’t bring in a lot of money, save for my antique silver cup and the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs set. Most people don’t appreciate them, but I sure do.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
