Peonies

May 21, 2010 at 11:03 am by Claudia

From Peonies

Do you also hurry, half-dressed and barefoot, into the garden,
and softly,
and exclaiming of the dearness,
fill your arms with the white and pink flowers,

with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,
their eagerness
to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever?

Mary Oliver (my favorite poet)

Have a wonderful weekend.

I do, I do, I truly do!! I romp in the grass barefoot as often as I can, sweetpea. It’s my favorite thing to walk on.

    Claudia,

My Pink Saturday post is all about peonies. I hope you can stop by a little later!

    Just love them.

I use to have peonies. But my neighbor across the street was friends with the woman who lived here before me. And the woman moved to another state. So the neighbor really envied that peony plant, and we dug it up so she could put it in her yard. Meant more to her than to me. But the blooms on them are so soft and lovely! The essence of romance.

Claudia, they are truly lovely, and this poem is perfect. I hadn’t heard it, but I’m glad you shared. I love poetry, and I will have to make a point to read that poet if she’s your favorite.

To my great regret, we don’t grow peonies here, and they are my favorite flower (along with freeia). I also love hollyhocks, but the summer weather here is too fierce for them to last. We can grow them for a time in spring. I guess I will have to be content with finding them at the grocery store and rejoicing then! But I long to see them growing. Lilacs, too. I have enjoyed everyone sharing them with us this year.

Sending you hugs and well wishes for the weekend. Hope all goes well with work. Please send Darcy (a perfect choice… love that man!) a hug from me, and save one for you, too.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

Oh how I love peonies. Our aren’t ready to shine yet, but I’m hoping by next weekend they’ll open up.

    Love the sheep you got!

I garden first thing in the morning… in my pajamas! Hagrid wakes me up and then follows me out to the garden each day. We have our little routine– it’s a happy way to start the day.

We had beautiful peonies at our last house… and we left them there. Probably okay because we live in the woods and they need some sunshine! But, we do have one plant now and after four years of living here…we have a flower! The poem is excellent.

    Hi Claudia,

This peonie is so beautiful..One day I’m gonna get around to planting a flower garden. You’d think after being here for a year that I’d be further along…so much remodeling, painting and indoor stuff…slowly but surely getting it all done.

I’m not certain as to how many aprons I have but I’m going to be finding out since I’m going to hang many of them up my staircase to the studio. Guessing I would say I’ve 20 or more.

They are all decorative though since they mostly are made for size 20 waistline..haha I remember having that several decades ago. :0)

    I hope you have a wonderful weekend….

    Hugs,
    Stephanie ♥

What a lovely poem! I don’t grow peonies but a house nearby has the whole side yard filled with peonies and roses! You can imagine what a lovely sight that is when they’re all in bloom!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
