A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

August 28, 2011 at 11:15 pm by Claudia

I’ll just let the pictures tell the story.

Each of our 4 large trees in the front yard lost numerous limbs. I could hear cracking and groaning as they fell. Then our huge sugar maple lost the massive limb you see above, crashing into my planters, birdbath and the dogs corral. Such devastation. All I could do was stand there in shock and weep.

Either our roof or our chimney leaked into our bedroom.

Life has been kicking us in the pants lately.

So sorry Claudia but kind of on the bright side it did not hit your house or your cars. I know it is a messy job because 2 years ago we came home from our sons quite late and something felt wrong, after turning on the flood light we saw a huge branch ( more like a tree) from our willow had fallen onto our family room roof and wiped out my new garden. I love and hate trees at the same time.

    Think of it as pruning,

So glad none of that landed on your house or cars! I hope the willow tree is OK. A few years ago a tornado landed a huge oak tree about 10 feet from our bedroom window, very scary. so happy you’re OK, xo Debra

your boys (the dogs) are okay, right? They were inside with you? Leaks in the roof are no fun at all (she says, putting it mildly) — but y’all are okay and now have firewood for winter. Hopefully, your sugar maple will survive the damage – and better a limb than the whole tree, eh?

Oh I am just so sorry. If I lived close i would be there helping you clean up. At least one of the tree’s didn’t fall on your house squashing it. I heard on a movie just now that the bad days make you appreciate the good ones even more. These are the only words of comfort and wisdom I can come up with now. I know where you are coming with when you wonder when it will be some one else’s turn in the barrel.

I have noticed your beautiful home many times. Such a peaceful lovely place. I am sorry you have lost those strong trees. I felt bad it fell over your nice barrel type planters that look so pretty. Maybe you can replace them if need be. I don’t know where you got them but I’ve looked all over for those kinds of planters. Please tell us if you remember where they came from. I’ll say many prayers for the clean up work and hope you can see a new vision for your yard that will make your heart smile. We live in a wooded type area and have lost quite a few large trees recently. So I’ll be replacing a few of them with small trees. Best to you as the mess is cleared away and life resumes normal again. What a lovely porch with your beautiful pup.

Dear Claudia, this looks really frightening, how happy I am that none of the branches fell onto the house- but so sad for you you lost your beautiful pieces in the garden-
Hope this day will be a sunny one, in your life.

I am so sorry Claudia – I know it feels like a personal affront! It could have been so much worse, but it’s all about perspective and what’s relavant to your experience. Sometimes life is just not fair. Ann

Oh, Claudia. That really sucks, BUT, it could have been so much worse.

We had some damage to our huge maple as well way up here in Ontario, Canada.

It must have been terrifying to hear the noise of all this going on, so upsetting to see it, and it’s going to take hard work to fix it but thank goodness you are all safe.

It’s hard to see a tree go down and the clean up is just tremendous when Mother Nature does this. So glad nothing fell on your house. :-(

    So sorry to see this.

sorry if this shows up twice. blogger isn’t liking me tonight.
Sorry about your storm damage. My biggest fear was falling trees. Luckily yours did not go crashing through your home.
    Hopefully cleanup will be quick.
    Hang in there!

I’m so very sorry Claudia, your damage is very bad and reminds me of what we experienced in ’96 with Hurricane Fran – with trees through our roof and on my car! It’s always sad to lose beautiful established trees, but they can be so dangerous in high winds.

Thankfully you, Don, and the dogs are safe and things can be repaired. Here we fared quite well with no damage this time, just a lot of clean up from tree debris……..and then lost power when our neighbor’s large oak fell across the street taking the transformer and power lines down!

Just so glad you were not injured.
Hang in there dear, better days are coming.
    Hugs – Mary

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
