Pink Saturday

January 9, 2010 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday! Please visit Beverly for a list of everyone participating.

From a box of linens bought at auction, I found this sweet dresser scarf:

Oooh – pink! What to do with it? Then I thought of this undecorated window at the top of the stairs.

This window is in my ‘studio.’ I use the term loosely – but the whole upstairs landing and hallway is my creative space. This is a glimpse of the area just to the right of the window.

I had an extra curtain rod left after I hung curtains in the living room and bathroom. So I went to work and put up the rod. Then I ran to Lowe’s and bought clips to hang the dresser scarf. Total cost: $4.00.

It is so gosh darn hard to get a good photo with the light coming in. Here’s a couple more:

It was a gray and snowy day as I took these photos! I love my new valance – it works perfectly in the color palette of pink, aqua and lavender that runs throughout the ‘studio’ space.

Have a great day everyone. We are off to Manhattan tonight to see one of my former students, along with another friend of ours, perform in a production of Present Laughter by Noel Coward. It is on Broadway and I am very excited to see one of my favorite students work on a Broadway stage.

Claudia, I can’t believe that’s a dresser scarf as it works perfectly as a valance! So pretty with its pink floral design!

And what a fun thing to get to see someone you know in a Broadway play! Something tells me you were a favorite teacher as well…

    XO,

Sheila (who is preparing to leave on a blogging break!) :-)

    Oh Claudia…
Happy Pink Saturday sweetie. I so love this scarf. It makes the most precious window valance ever. I just love it. Imagine what one of this quality would cost if you went and bought it. You did a beautiful job of hanging it, and it is so feminine looking. I love it.

Now I spied on your little work area behind your sewing machine a Lambchops. I have my very first Lambchops puppet. It is very old. Has a plastic head and a cloth hand area, and I fell in love with Lambchops because of Sherry Lewis. I thought I was very special because I had the same first name. Instantly fell in love with the puppet. I’ll get it out this weekend and post a picture of her. You won’t believe it.

Love ya sweetie. Thanks for sharing. I sure do love your work area. How wonderful the lighting is, and a cute little space tucked away just for you.

Happy Pink Saturday sweetie. Country hugs, Sherry

Claudia the Curtain Gal…that you are and so clever and thrifty. The scarf was a perfect fit and such a great idea, and you still have lots of light for your crafting space. I see you have a very nice quilter on your table….ist it a Janome? It looks like their style of machine, but I couldn’t see a tag. I have several Janome’s and love the way they sew. I also, saw your LambChop. So cute and like Sherry, I have one too. I call her LambKins and she’s been my partner in many knitting projects. Thanks for visiting today on this cold Texas Pink Saturday! Gosh, this weather makes me ready for sunshine and thorny roses.

Pink Saturday

June 6, 2009 at 12:43 am by Claudia

Hello, fellow lovers of pink! Thank you to Beverly for hosting our weekly celebration of pink. Please visit her blog to see a list of everyone participating.

Here we go ~ this little dress was at the Barn Sale. So sweet.

These shoes are too gorgeous! The dress and the shoes? And the tiara? Princess.

This sweet hat reminds me of something sweet Anne Shirley of Anne of Green Gables fame might wear.

This is the delicate shade of pink that occurs as a peony starts to fade. Beautiful.

I saved my favorite until last. This photo is from my sister Meredith’s blog. This is Wilbur. He is a 550 pound pig that has a deformed back leg. He has been raised from birth by the people that own this farm in North Carolina. Pigs are quite intelligent. Meredith got to pet him ~ I’m jealous. Isn’t he adorable? Now, that’s pink!

Have a wonderful day. Don’t forget, I’m having a Giveaway. After you have finished commenting here, scroll down and leave your name on Thursday’s post. You have to comment on both posts!

I did love your peony photos too. Way too hot for those to do well down here. And I was jealous you got to go to the Barn Sale at La Maison Rustique. Please tell me about the macro setting on the camera. Do you have an SLR? I really need to upgrade my camera but, think I would need a class. Have a great week.

I used to think “when I grow up, I’m going to wear a dress every day”…..Anything froofy and fluffy is right up my alley….and then, to top it off it’s PINK!

    Great post…….I loved it.

Pink Saturday

May 2, 2009 at 12:03 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday, everyone! Please stop by Beverly’s place to see a list of all participating. As you know, I went to the Barn Sale at La Maison Rustique last weekend. Thought I’d share a few of the pink treasures I saw there.

I love this pink desk – or dressing table.

On the left is a vintage dress – on the right a coverlet made of pink barkcloth. The backing of the coverlet is a red color and the ties are red. I contemplated getting this and I didn’t. Now I could kick myself.

Here is a closer view. Again – what was I thinking?

Love this pink chair.

To close – some tulips!

This will be another Saturday and Sunday in rehearsal. I also have to attend a formal dinner at the University on Saturday evening honoring, among others, one of my former students. All this is to say I may be a bit late getting around to everyone’s posts, but I will!

Ooooh, Claudia – what great pink finds!! I have a chippy green desk in my office that (in a future life) might be converted to a dressing table/vanity! And I so understand how you feel about the barkcloth coverlet. I recently posted about having not “buyer’s remorse,” but “didn’t buy it remorse.”… I even enlarged the photo to see the price – ha ha… Maybe you can call them and see if it’s still available (’cause you’ve got so much extra time these days!) Kidding, of course… Hope you are enjoying the whirlwind.

And re: the Martha Mary-Chapel, how cool is it that you’ve visited one, too! I believe there are six of them and the one in Sudbury was the last one built. Most are in Michigan, I believe. When Court gets out of college next week, the girls and I will definitely go see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. It’s always fun to see a movie that’s been made right in your own backyard… Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Pink Saturday

April 4, 2009 at 12:48 pm by Claudia

Hello everyone and Happy Pink Saturday – brought to you by Beverly of How Sweet the Sound. Please click on the link to discover more Pink Saturday deliciousness.

When I was a little girl, my Mom dressed me in pink a lot. She called me her ‘pink bunny.’ I love that memory, so the first pink treasure is this little pink bunny I found while out shopping. The little pink bunny needs some pink eggs, of course.

These little vintage treasures were all found in a little bag I purchased. I knew the thread was there, but was delighted to find the little drawstring bag crocheted in a lovely pink.

And, last but not least, some lovely tulips in a delicate pink.

I will be flying all day Saturday, so I will do my best to visit all your blogs over the next few days. I’m off for a visit home. Time to see my husband, dogs, my cottage, and my garden!

Oh Claudia I’m so happy your going to be home for 12 glorious days. I bet your tulips are popping out to say hello and your daffodils. Mine are coming up, but the weather is still so cold and rainy that I can only watch from the window. Come on sunshine.
I want a porch like yours so badly…I have always wanted a porch. Randy made me a beautiful blue porch swing as a surprise when we lived in Vancouver. We had a porch then, that was 10 yrs. ago. I still have it and refuse to let it go. I know this little cottage/home will have a place for it soon.
Hugs to all of your family.

I hope you had a wonderful flight home and the dogs and hubby are great! Your blog has captured my attention for the last couple of weeks and we have so many similar likes and interests! I saw you’re “researching” Twelfth Night and I performed Maria last summer at the Actor’s Academy. I know you’re here somewhere in SD County, as am I ( North County coastal area) and I would love to meet you. If you’re ever up this way, email me and I’ll take you to my local antiques and thrift markets. Don’t worry, I’m not a wierdo blog-stocker! When I saw your Trader Joe’s Daffodils (my weekly purchase) I thought, I gotta meet this gal! Anyhoo, have a fabulous time at home on Spring Break – whoo hoo! I’m leaving for Hawaii on Wed. for 10 days with the hubs and kids. Blog ya later!

Pink Saturday

March 7, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday everyone! I am posting early because my husband is arriving here in San Diego tonight! We are looking forward to 6 days of being together after 2 months of being apart.

First up, this vintage knitting bag I bought at the New York Sheep and Wool Festival last October. Isn’t it charming? I love vintage fabrics.

Next, the vintage barkcloth cushion cover that I have had for oh, so many years. I brought this with me to San Diego, but will most likely send it back home in April as it lives on our porch glider in the summertime.

These lovely blossoms are right outside my office window at the University. So pretty!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I will visit you all throughout the week ahead.
Please visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for a list of all those participating.

I also am running to my computer when I get a minute this busy weekend to see pinks. I love the pretty knitting bag. I really like the pillow fabric, also. And of course, the pretty pink blossoms are perfect. I’ve read that some people who have “died” momentarily and seen a glimpse of heaven report that there are many new indescribable colors. Wonder what “?” Saturdays we’d have there? :>

    Have a great week.

Pink Saturday

February 28, 2009 at 2:54 am by Claudia

Beverly of How Sweet the Sound has a Pink Saturday post every Saturday. Many bloggers take part in this, and I thought I would join in today. Since I am away from home, in a furnished apartment, I am limited in my access to pink. I think I managed to find enough for a respectable post!

Pink flowers on my Rachel Ashwell shower curtain (bought to replace the hideous one provided in the apartment.)

Pink flowers on my coffee cup.

Pink rose on my wall.

Pink roses on an antique plate. Can you tell I love flowers?

One of two pink dishes I bought to hold keys, jewelry, etc.

Pink, white and yellow Alstromeria

Pink roses in a painting by Gail McCormick that I purchased from Shabby Fufu.

I think I will stop here. I have some other pink things, but I should save them for another Pink Saturday! I hope you enjoyed all my pink treasures.

More later.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
