Pink Saturday

November 7, 2009 at 1:01 am by Claudia

Happy Pink Saturday! As always, our hostess is Beverly – please stop by and see a list of everyone participating.

This is a piece of my Great-Grandmother’s Haviland China. It is the only piece I have at present because the rest of the set is in storage at my friend’s house in Detroit. Yes, Detroit. When I moved away from Michigan to go to Graduate School, I couldn’t take the china with me. My sweet friend Jan has been holding onto it for years. I’ve only flown in and out of Michigan, but never have been able to transport all those dishes home. The set is in a big wooden box.

Next year, I will be back there for my…(unspecified year)… high school reunion. I plan on driving there and packing up my china, along with a few other things that Jan has been keeping for me. When I was younger, I appreciated that the Haviland was my Great-Grandmother’s and was being passed down to me, but I really didn’t care a whole lot for the pattern. Now, older and wiser, I really love it.

Have a great weekend!

Claudia, that is exquisite and how special that it belonged to your great grandmother! I love Haviland and think it is one of the most beautiful chinas around… it’s so delicate and fine. I can’t wait to see the rest of you set. So glad you are going to be able to retrieve it this year!

    Happy Pink Saturday…

    Oh Claudia!
Happy Pink Saturday sweetie. Isn’t it wonderful that we get older and wiser with the passing years? So many things that our families have treasured over the years, and sometimes we just don’t understand why. These setting is absolutely exquisite. I am sure your Grandmother was also. We know she was very wise. What a wonderful keepsake she kept just for you.

Thanks for sharing sweetie. Please stop by and visit my pink post. I so love to share. Country hugs, Sherry

    Hello Claudia,

I do think that just knowing it’s from your great grandma makes it extra special already. Ans she has an eye for something that is so pretty too :-)

If you’ll one day bring home the rest of the set, wouldn’t it be wonderful to use it for something special? And when I say special, I mean let’s make sure we create something special (of an ordinary day)out of it LOL

I’ve already given our china to our granddaughter to enjoy now. We don’t entertain a lot and I have lots of vintage china tucked away in a china cabinet. I like the randonmess of different plates around the table now. Mandy was happy to accept it.

I do love the pattern though on yours.

Love your comment about how you loved having something that belonged to your GGM, and grew to love the pattern! ha! When my daughter comments on things like china, she would say “it’s really pretty, but It’s not really my style”. I always respond with…”don’t worry, it will be” ;)

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
