We took advantage of a break in the humidity and sat for a spell on the porch. I sat on the glider and read with the sound of passing traffic and our neighbor’s riding mower in the background. Right after this photo was taken, Scout jumped up on the glider to join me and we rocked gently back and forth.
Mom is back home. And we know nothing – just like the last time she was hospitalized. She can barely walk and she’s exhausted but she’s happy to be home. There are some things that medicine cannot define or explain with a diagnosis. I think the slow process of a body shutting down is one. So much of that process remains a mystery. As it should be, I suppose. I am a person who always wants to figure things out, to find the answer. I can’t on this one. I just know that Mom is slowly letting go.
Some things in life should remain unexplainable and mysterious.
On a happier note, I received a package in the mail last week from my friend, Rizzi. That little dickens surprised me with this:
Isn’t this wonderful? Thank you, Rizzi – I was still feeling achey and tired on that day and this was just what the doctor ordered. Do you see that package of lemon cookies on the left? Even though I’m technically “not eating sugar,” these somehow disappeared. How did that happen?

What a lovely surprise. I just did a post on porch sitting… it’s in the air! and ask me how much I love lemon cookies.
Glad you’re feeling better, Claudia… hoping your mother has more good days than bad.

Sitting on the porch sounds like heaven to me- and with some sweet pups too! I’m so sorry about your Mom Claudia- but I think you are right- our bodies can be amazing and confusing and we are not always meant to understand completely. She is in my prayers and you are too- I know that recovery from surgery has been tough on you–you are like so many of us creative people- we want to get back at it even though our body is not ready yet. Blogging friends are truly the greatest I think- what a wonderful care package. I’ve been struggling to keep up with life this summer also and all of my blogging friends have helped me so much- yourself included. I’m so thankful for every single friend ♥ Take care and give those pups some love from me :)

What a lovely little surprise. It’s really pretty. I know it’s difficult working through what’s happening to your mother. I’ve been through with mine.

Claudia, thinking about you and your mom. My mother rallied so many times and it was always a puzzle to me, but at the end it became clear to me that she was an unlikely warrior who defied the odds so her family could prepare for her departure. She waited until we were ready. It’s the only sense I’ve made from that difficult time. Enjoy that porch! Even more with summer fading. Ann

What a beautiful gift! It is so hard to watch the health of a parent fail. For our whole lives they have been there and been strong for us. And when that changes we don’t really know how to deal with it. Sending you hugs.

I love sitting on the porch also, sweetpea, but it’s so hot here in the desert that we have to wait until about 9 or 10 pm so we don’t bake. I truly love all your posts!
xoxo,
Connie
