I’ve been feeling under the weather with allergies/sinus and yesterday was especially tough. Plus, I worked on our taxes and deductions for several hours. So, by the end of the afternoon, I was pretty fried.
What to do? Dress Sophie in her new outfit.
I’m not kidding! It was the first activity of the day to give me a wee bit of joy. So much so that I took some pictures – indoors and out.
(I promise not to make this blog about Blythe dolls, but if you will just indulge me at the beginning of this new adventure, I’d really appreciate it. I feel like I’m playing dolls again, but at a different level.)
First – indoors. In fact, right next to my blogging chair.
This outfit is adorable. Don loved the socks!
She’s way too big for that dollhouse.
Then outside – on a whim.
The minute my back was turned, she was climbing a tree. So much for a new outfit!
Communing with nature.
I have a lot to learn about posing these dolls for photos. They can’t stand on their own because the head is so heavy. So you have to prop them up, and I’m discovering a lot of tips on how to do that. Or you can put them on a stand and photoshop the stand out of the picture. But I don’t have photoshop. It will be fun to experiment when I have more time. Sophie’s body is adjustable, so I can position the arms and legs. Some Blythes have a special neck which allows you to tilt the head – but they’re more expensive. Sophie does not have that.
I’ve seen some extremely clever photographs out there. They’re a lot of fun.
For now, Sophie is back up on the music cabinet amongst the aqua McCoy.
Just wanted to mention the book, The Lonely Doll, by Dare Wright, which was published when I was a kid. I loved that book. It told the story of a doll and her bear friends in photographs and it was mesmerizing to this little girl. Apparently, there were ten books in all, all telling the story of Edith. Thanks to reader Margaret for reminding me of that series. I remember some people finding the idea creepy, but I loved it. I remember checking it out at our Bookmobile several times.
I got a lot done on the deductions yesterday. I’ll finish that up today and then I’ll type it all and send the info to our accountant tomorrow. I also have to prep today for a zoom session with Ben tomorrow.
I’m nicely busy.
It’s a lovely day today! Hopefully, I can take advantage of the light and get a little oil painting in this afternoon.
I hope you had a great weekend!
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

Consider yourself indulged by this reader. I’m going to enjoy Sophie’s adventures with you.
Have a lovely day.
Claudia says
Oh, thank you, Deanna!
I appreciate it.
Stay safe!

Sophie looks like a serious girl. I loved the IG pics you posted yesterday. Do you think she is French? I think she would love a beret…and maybe a paint pallette.
Have fun!
Claudia says
I don’t know if she’s French or not…I think she might be British, as is her customizer. Maybe she has dual citizenship!
But yes to a beret.
Thank you, Marilyn.
Stay safe.
Cathy S says
I’m looking forward to hearing all of Sophie’s stories and adventures. As a child, I loved playing dolls but I’m sad, as it seems, that playing with dolls as gone by the wayside. With all this new technology no one has to use their own imagination anymore to have fun… it’s done for them. Very sad!
Claudia says
I know. Too many kids on screens. Not enough time spent playing with boxes and making them into something. A life of the imagination is very much needed.
Stay safe, Cathy.
Cathy S says
Oh, Claudia, you just brought back memories of making a doll cradle out of an oatmeal box!
Claudia says
Oh lovely! I made doll houses out of shoe boxes!
Stay safe, Cathy.
Roxie says
My grandma always did this for us! The big size Quaker Oatmeal boxes–she went through them fast since she made extra for the ranch cats. Good memories!
Betsy says
Sophie is so sweet! Looks like so much fun.
Please write about anything that calls you. Your blog is my break from my day.
Enjoy!
Claudia says
Aw, thank you, Betsy!
I so appreciate it.
Stay safe!
Rose says
Are any of your sheep the right size to be pals with Sophie? They would be cute pictures.
Claudia says
Some of them might be and I have one that is needle felted that would be a fun toy animal for her.
Thanks so much, Rose!
Stay safe.
Donnamae says
I have to admit, I am fascinated by Blythe dolls. And her outfits are so stinking cute. She seems very outdoorsy, but I wonder does she love to read or paint, too? It’s a pleasant diversion not only for you…but for us.
Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
She has a serious side and I think she loves to read. Loves to go to the library and pick out her own books to take home.
Stay safe, Donnamae!
Brendab says
Did you enjoy the new Louise Penny book?
Claudia says
Brenda, you know I always put off reading her newest book. It’s a pleasure to be savored when the time is right. I have never had any interest in reading it right away, but am much more happy indulging in the newest a few months later.
Stay safe!
Linda MacKean says
She is adorable and I say have fun! I play Barbies with Scout all the time. LOL!
Claudia says
Thank you, Linda!
Stay safe.
Grace says
Sophie’s outfit is pretty much my idea of perfect! The style, colours etc. are lovely for Autumn also!!!! I also am contemplating new jeans for my rather limited wardrobe. Sophie’s style wouldn’t quite work on me anyway! So fun to see it on her though!!!!
Claudia says
No I don’t think I could pull off Sophie’s style, either!
Stay safe, Grace.
Grace says
Sorry for your allergies and ‘under the weather’ feelings Claudia. Hopefully they are fleeting!

I am. She’s so adorable and as Don says, “highly photogenic.”

Oh Kathy, I am praying for your great-niece. I hope she feels much better soon.
Prayers that things go better with your job as well. Hang in there.
Marilyn
Dee+Dee says
Of course, I will pray for your situation and your niece’s health. You always offers words of comfort to others on here which are much appreciated.
Brendab says
My family has had Covid…it is so awful…prayers
Grace says
Love, light and prayers dear Kathy!
Claudia says
Of course you have my prayers! So sorry to hear about your dear niece, Kathy. Praying she has a speedy recovery. And I’m so sorry you have yet more stress at your place of employment. This new boss sounds like she/he has added enormous pressure to your life.
Sending lots of love your way.
Stay safe.
Roxie says
Kathy, my most heart-felt wishes for you and your sweet patient. I hope you are both soon feeling healthy and more cheerful. It’s a hard time and you deserve so much better. I’ll be holding both of you in my thoughts.
Dee+Dee says
Sophie looks like she is settling in nicely with her new surroundings!
Claudia says
I think she likes it here, Dee Dee!
Stay safe.
Verna says
Sophie is a adorable. Who wouldn’t want to play with her. I do wonder what your neighbors are thinking. Heehee. Get feeling better Claudia.
Claudia says
The neighbors can’t really see anything – we’re in the country and we have space around us.
Stay safe, Verna!
Caroline says
She is adorable! Love her expression! Great job shooting her. As someone else said, it’s sad playing with dolls has gone the way of so many wonderful behaviors. I, too, will enjoy hearing about you and Sophie’s adventures. You bring her to life and take us away from our cares. I, too, would love to know how your neighbors react (tee hee).
Hope your allergies, etc. leave you soon. (I’m trying to be positive; we here in Upstate NY suffer nearly year ’round with them now — sigh.)
Claudia says
Neighbors in the country aren’t on top of us, so they can’t see anything. Though I wouldn’t mind if they did.
I’m technically in upstate New York, though not probably as upstate as you, and I agree – they have been nonstop this year and it’s very disheartening!
Stay safe, Caroline.
Roxie says
Mlle. Sophie reminds me of a serious (and instinctively stylish) French schoolgirl, although perhaps she’s just shy and will warm up as she adjusts to her new surroundings. I know she will soon love being a part of Mockingbird Hill Cottage. I suspect she’s going to enjoy re-arranging your dollhouse furniture–you may have added an enabler to your household. I’m looking forward to her American adventures!
I’m seeing summer wind down in my garden also. I do love harvest time and autumn blooms are lovely. Hurray for mums! Oddly, my most colorful roses are always September/October–I suspect they love the cooler weather in the high desert. Sadly, that means allergy season can’t be far behind. Oh well, thanks to a few thundershowers and our hero firefighters, we actually have blue skies again. So there’s that.
Stay safe and away from Delta!
Claudia says
I have some roses blooming at the moment. They always have a final round of blooms in Sept./Oct.
So glad your skies are blue again, Roxie!
Stay safe.
