Postcard from Florida

August 24, 2015 at 7:37 am by Claudia

8-24 beach

Meredith and I took a lovely walk on the beach yesterday. We gathered seashells and soaked up the sea air.

Lovely, lovely.

Today I’ll be visiting my dad one more time and getting all the info together that I need for the trip home. I leave tomorrow morning. Three days later, I should be home.

It’s been short, but wonderful. My middle nephew is home so I’ve been able to spend some time with him, as well as Little Z. My dad is doing fairly well for his age, but the stories I could tell! He can be very difficult, even on the best of days. But that has always been the case. Nevertheless, he’s a good guy who has a big heart – and he’s my dad. Meredith and I have spent a lot of time together and that’s a precious gift, to be sure. I love my family.

I may or may not post from the road. There won’t be a whole lot to say other than I drove, and drove, and drove some more.

Photo credit: Meredith. I forgot to take my iPhone to the beach!

Happy Monday.

That sky, that water – gorgeous. Apparently, photographic talent runs in families. Enjoy the last night of your visit, and drive safely. Hopefully you’ll have good weather – and some even better audio books – as you head northward. :>)

Wow! Just look at all the prayers and wishes for you, Claudia. That must make you feel blessed.

If you are too tired to post during your trip, maybe you could put a few photos on Instagram of interesting or funny things that catch your eye.

How lucky you are, to have a sister who welcomes you with open arms. And how lucky is she, to have a big sister like you?

I will add my voice to the chorus: take care, and best wishes for a safe journey home.

Wow! What a small world. I have been following your blog for several years now. I enjoy it very much because your life is very different from mine. Imagine my surprise when I read your recent post that you were visiting your sister in Dunedin, Florida. I actually live in New Port Richey, Florida which is about 20 miles north of Dunedin. I love Dunedin. It’s such a quaint little town. Hope you enjoyed your visit and have a safe trip home.

Safe trip home, Claudia! I continue to admire you for driving all that distance by yourself; I’m not adventurous enough to do that although I know you had to get the car back to New York. Wow, to be gifted with a car; what an awesome thing and you need it! Give your dad a big extra hug; the elderly can indeed get difficult but I just think they’re dealing with a lot of issues, and old age gets so darn hard sometimes. They wake up each morning wanting to feel good, physically and spiritually and emotionally and sometimes it just doesn’t happen as they get older and weaker, so it’s scary and frustrating for them. They get cranky. I took care of my mom for years and it often didn’t get better because she didn’t get better. It’s a kinda desperate thing to be into the ending years and be carrying unrequited dreams; sometimes, too many regrets. Knowing it’s too late to remedy a lot of things from the past. Feeling unfinished and that the loose ends aren’t tied up. Looking back on life and perhaps seeing a lot of it that might have been wasted; lost opportunities. So much gets to rolling around inside the brain about all these things. Not everybody passes from this life with peace in their heart. I’ve learned from experience that it’s not always a quiet and orderly process to death. Not everybody, in other words, ‘goes gently into that good night’…

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
