Postcards from New York

March 23, 2012 at 4:08 pm by Claudia

Another quick trip into the city today for a coaching gig, which required a wake-up time of 5 AM. I don’t do 5 AM very well. I thought I’d share some photos courtesy of the iPhone.

Coffee and the New York Times Crossword Puzzle. Always tricky on a jiggly bus ride.

At this point, we’re in New Jersey on our way into the city and that’s the Manhattan skyline off in the distance.

The trees are blooming – what an early Spring we’re having!

More beauty.

The woman I’m working with has an office right by Madison Square Garden.

And it’s also close to Macy’s.

After our appointment, I headed back toward the Port Authority Bus Terminal, which is in the Theater District/Times Square. I cut through the garment district. That’s Daytona Braids and Trimming where I get my Embroidery Floss. (I confess: I cut through the Garment District in order to buy a cupcake from Crumbs Bakery.)

My favorite newspaper and, even more importantly, my favorite crossword puzzle source. You can see the Port Authority Terminal reflected in the glass.

And there’s the Port Authority, where I catch the bus back home.

I love New York and I’d like nothing better than to spend the day there, but alas, I had to get back home. I’ll try to grab more photos during my next 2 visits.

It was a gorgeous day, by the way, with the temperature in the 70’s. However, colder weather and rain are coming.

One day I’m picking up rocks, digging for more rocks, dumping rocks, leveling dirt – the next day I’m in Manhattan. Tomorrow? Back to hard labor.

Right now I have to enjoy NYC vicariously through you. We were planning a trip there the end of June but last week it got canceled. It was going to be work related with a business trip to Philadelphia for my husband so i was going to tag along on that and then we were going to spend a couple of days seeing NYC. I have never been there so I was really disappointed when we heard it was not going to happen. Oh well, one day. So keep those pics coming! ~Hugs, Patti

Nice that you live so close to New York city. Haven’t been there in years. Many of my relatives live in Long Island New York, one cousin in Northport and the other lives in Riverhead. We used to go out there all the time. I must plan a trip there again.

    Like your photos.

Enjoy your cottage in the country this weekend!

How lucky you are to be able to go to that grand city for the day! Our spell of summer has ended and the temps are dropping. ~ Maureen

Well that was fun. I haven’t been to New York in years. I used to go there on business and rarely had time to enjoy the sights. I’ve love to go back as a tourist. More pictures please!

I have never been in NYC. I had a layover once,, but that doesn’t count. I did get to see the Statue of Liberty from the plane.
I love seeing the pictures that you have taken. I know that you are used to going there but I would get lost for sure.
Take time out of picking stones to rest a little.

Claudia, I SO enjoyed those photos. Pretty amazing that one can get such good photos from a phone. A nice reprieve from the digging, huh. :-)
    Have a great weekend!

I was in New York many, many years ago just before I married hubs. I can’t say it was friendly. A few upper class people on our elevator said to each other, “The next thing you know they’ll be coming down in their pajamas.” I was astounded as we were quite nicely dressed in pants. I hope it’s changed since then.

I spent a lot of time there when my daughters were both living there. Now I’m happy to just see it in pictures. Yours are great.

Oh Claudia! I am OBSESSED with seeing NYC (which I’ve never gotten to!) and these shots are perfect. A little video one time would be great too! (told you I’m obsessed!) I have gotten to only using my phone for pix and video as that is what is with me most times (and they always say the best camera is the one you have with you!Prob not true, but I like to think so)
How are your parents? Think of them and wonder how they (and you) are doing.
    Thanks again!

Sometimes I wish I had the capabilities to take pics with my phone but I have a basic 19.99 phone from Target. With five cell phones in this house, fancy isn’t on the menu. Some day. Love those white trees against the dark brick houses.

I enjoyed the pictures of your commute. Isn’t amazing that in such a short time you are in a totally different universe?

I haven’t been to New York in years but I am enjoying it through you! How brave you are. I am a country girl and going into our small city of Portland, Maine, evokes anxiety in me still after all of these years. When I did go to New York years ago, it was usually Long Island. We would take the New London ferry across. Thanks for sharing your life with the rest of us….you live such a interesting life!

Enjoyed the photos.. I’ve never been to NY (some day, hopefully) but my baby boy and his bride live there. They are both in theater – maybe one day your paths will cross!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
