Pothos, a Poll and a Plan

August 18, 2012 at 10:14 am by Claudia

:: I used to root pothos this way, but now I’m having my doubts. Is this too long a cutting? Any tips would be welcome.

I haven’t rooted anything like this for years – since my bedroom at my parents’ house was filled with houseplants in the mid seventies. I have a pothos in the bathroom at the cottage which has been around here for a long time. It was getting too leggy, so I decided to take a cutting and root it.

:: I’m taking a poll about the post I wrote yesterday. Would you like to join in on a meme/party about “A Favorite Thing?” And if so, would you prefer it on a Friday or a Saturday? Several of you have already responded, but I didn’t add the information as to which day of the week until later in the day yesterday.

So: Friday or Saturday?

:: I’m in the process of moving to WordPress. Hopefully, all will be complete sometime early in the week. It’s a big deal, it’s daunting, but I’m really happy with the new look. I’ll explain more about my reasons for the move later.

:: What are your plans for the weekend?

Happy Saturday.

Saturday would be great as there really isn’t much on that day. And yes make that cutting a little shorter so your plant starts out less leggy.

You’re moving to WordPress? How cool! Now I’ll be able to follow properly.
For the Pothos, the roots form at the nodes (air roots). So anything below the node will rot away so as to better sustain the leaf.
I’d be interested in your link party, but I don’t know how to do things like that. If I could figure it out, then Friday would be good.

I think Saturday would be a great day, Claudia. I have some little rooting bottles hanging in my windows (although I’m not usually rooting anything) and they’re quite small. I’d never be able to put as long a stem as you have into one of them so maybe yours should be shorter? It’s been so long since I’ve rooted anything though, so don’t trust just my opinion! Brings to mind my days of rooting avocados with toothpicks!

Can’t wait to see the new blog and hear the reasons for the move, etc.!!

I think it’s a long stem and will root but might take awhile. I vote for Saturday for the party. Lots going on on Friday, but either way I’ll join in. Favorite Things is fun! hugs, Linda

Good wishes with your move to WordPress. I have tried to “move,” but never seemed to fully make it. ,-)

I’m not answering your question about the meme/party, because I don’t do any blog parties, etc. Many do, I know. So best of luck with yours.

I have a pothos plant from my grandmother’s funeral back in 1988. It’s still going strong with an occasional trimming and repotting.

How long has it been i the water? It will grow roots, but you might make the stem a little shorter.
I stopped doing blog parties because they made me feeel as if my blog was somehow less My Blog, but a Favorite Things post? That sounds like fun. Any day will be fine with me.

BTW Lexie is much better, Thank you.

Not sure about the rooting- I just throw anything in water to see if it will root.

I think Saturday would be a great day- there are not many linky things on Saturday- xo Diana

The Pothos stem depends upon what you’re going to plant it in. I suspect your planter isn’t going to be that deep.

I’m still rooting basil – I usually have the stem a bit shorter so it doesn’t fall out the jar into my sink. Now we’re cutting back on tomatoes, too much acid, what the h— will I do with all this beautiful basil!!!!!!!!?

Fri. or Sat., whatever’s best for you dear.

P.S. Still so busy will write you soon.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
