• It’s been raining for 12 hours and it will continue throughout the day. Definitely a stay indoors day, which is fortunate, since I did a lot of porch clean up yesterday and have no desire to do any more for the time being. Pots were lugged, one by one, to the leaf pile and dumped out and then placed near the shed entrance. Porch decorations were added to the pile. Various pots and supports were retrieved from the garden beds and they were added to the pile. Then the rakes, weed whacker, and shovels. Then I had to find a place for them in the shed – not easy!
And then, facing reality, I brought the snow shovels to the porch.
I always put off this particular job, partly because I’m lazy, but mostly because I hate saying goodbye to the summer and fall. I still have a bit to do, and we have to take the Adirondack chairs and cushions to the storage facility, but soon it will all be done.
My little stone doves are now upstairs in the office, perched on top of the French cabinet. The little turquoise child’s chair is up there, too, but I think I have to find a better place for it. The Boston Fern is already up there, wondering why it isn’t outside.
• What else? I upgraded my iPhone, not because it wasn’t working just fine, but because it kept running out of storage and I was sick of having to delete photos all the time. I was eligible for an upgrade because I’d paid off my current phone, so I bit the bullet and got a new one with a lot more storage. I like the larger screen area. And the camera is better, as well.
• Did you know you can call Amazon? I ordered a phone case that was to be delivered in one day because I have an Amazon Prime membership. I needed it in one day because the phone was arriving that same day and I needed to go into the city the following day. I didn’t want to be carrying around a phone that had no protection. Anyway, the next day I got a notice from them saying it wouldn’t arrive until Friday. I was not happy. In googling how to call Amazon, I found a number, called it, and someone answered! I explained my problem and my disappointment in the change in delivery dates. (I guess there are times the inventory looks available for a certain area and then the computer realizes that it isn’t nearby, hence the delay.) Long story sort of short: the woman I spoke to called me back on Friday to confirm that it hadn’t arrived in time for my day in the city, so she’s refunding the cost and I can keep the case.
Even though they are a monolith, you can talk to someone.
• We’ve been watching season 3 of The Crown and finished it on Friday. Excellent. Don had seen seasons 1 and 2 (he watched it when he was staying in the city) but I hadn’t, so we started watching the first season last night. Wonderful acting, wonderful set design and attention to detail. Simply superb.
Okay. Looks like we have to clear our culvert a bit as it seems to be overflowing (though this is the county’s responsibility). And then I’m going to read.
Happy Sunday.

Oh Claudia, be careful with the culvert pipe! Years ago a dear friend of my husband was killed when he was sucked into a blocked culvert he was trying to clean out. He suffocated, and it was an awful death. Please, please call the city to do it!
Claudia says
We’re very careful. We stay above it on the road. We never go down in front of it. We know what we’re doing! Plus, it’s a narrow pipe the width of our driveway. No danger of getting sucked in.
And the county isn’t working on a Sunday. We cleared the leaves that were blocking it and all is well.
Jenny says
Oh, good. I hesitated saying anything at all, but I worried what if I didn’t say anything and something happened? I in no way meant to imply that you didn’t know what you were doing.
Claudia says
Of course you didn’t! I thought you might be thinking of the larger culvert pipes, and we don’t have those here! Thanks for your concern, Jenny!
Jenny says
I appreciate your reply to my reply! You’re so good at communicating and it is much appreciated.

I’ve got the third series of The Crown still to watch. As you say the first two were excellent so something good to look forward to. Last weekend a new BBC drama began, a three part series of The War of the Worlds, which I am really enjoying as it is set in 1905, only a few years after H.G. Wells wrote it. The city scenes were filmed in Liverpool which I recognised straightaway as a lot of its architecture is from that era.
I do watch a lot of TV this time of year especially as the sun starts setting before 4pm !
Happy Sunday

Hopefully, that series will eventually make its way to America! Thank you, Dee Dee!

I haven’t started Season 3 yet, I am at that “I sooooo want to watch, but sooooo don’t want it to be over” place. I loved Season 1 and 2. That one episode about the fog has stuck with me since the day I watched it. Just love the series!
I have messaged Amazon twice now in the past few years about orders that were delivered but not correct items per my invoice and order form. Both times they told me to keep what I received and they shipped me the correct item, also. Like you, I never expected it.
Well, stay warm and dry today! Here they are still waffling about a big storm heading somewhere in the vicinity this week. As always they won’t know until it arrives. ugh to all of it!!
Claudia says
I haven’t seen that episode yet, as we’ve just started season 1.
We got soaked clearing the culvert so we came in and took hot showers! I see snow in the forecast for next Sunday. Here’s hoping it proves to be wrong. Thanks, Chris!

I am! Thank you, Brenda!

I have yet to watch The Crown, but believe me I intend to watch. We spent the day finishing our outside projects…and putting out a few decorations for Christmas. Our weatherman said it would be a good idea, in case we get a snowstorm. Now, that we did that, it won’t snow. As Chris said….they’re really not telling us much, probably because they don’t know either! Have a good evening! ;)
Claudia says
No to snow! I hope you don’t get any. I know we’re due for some at the end of the week. Thanks, Donna!

I love The Crown! It is something I’ve watched several times. I just finished Season 3 and will watch it again soon.
Claudia says
It’s wonderful! Thanks, Linda!

I’m glad you’re watching the earlier Crown. I’m really impressed with all the seasons (midway in 3 now) and even though sometimes they play fast and loose with the facts (It IS historical drama, after all, not documentary) it’s so well done and the overall info is relatively solid historically. I like that they take key events — the big fog, Suez, the mine disaster, etc. — because it does bring them into clearer focus. And the performances are so darned good.
Good news about Amazon. That’s heartening.
Claudia says
Thank you, Jeanie!

Thanks for the great tips. I love The Crown. So entertaining and educational. Please keep posting suggestions for things to watch. We have a hard time finding a series we like.
Good for you finding an Amazon phone number. It isn’t easy. I got it from my credit card company years ago.
Claudia says
Thanks, Kay! I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving in your new home, my friend.
