Pottery, Stitching & Corn

September 17, 2010 at 6:34 pm by Claudia

I found this funky little pitcher today while out and about. It’s not my usual style (though I love the color) but look closer.  Sure looks like ‘CH’ to me. Since those are my initials, how could I resist? The marking on the bottom says ‘Caribe, Puerto Rico.’

I’m slowly working on my sampler – I manage to get a bit done each evening.

There’s a lot to do yet, but I really enjoy the process and don’t want to rush through it.

We’re eating some of this tonight:

This stand has the best sweet corn I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I have to tell you that any other corn-on-the-cob pales in comparison. Did I ever tell you that when I was a college student, in the days when dorm food was basically starch, I used to have magazine photos of a baked potato smothered in butter and buttery corn-on-the-cob on my bulletin board? If I had added a photo of broccoli, I would have had my favorite meal. If you had been forced to eat that food, you would have done the same thing!

While at the farm stand, I snapped this:

If you don’t already know about it, I have a new photography blog: Through a Lens Daily. I’d love it if you stopped by. The link is on my sidebar.

Ah…what a pretty little find :) And sweet corn? Haven’t been able to find and GOOD sweet corn this year. Even our farm stands’ aren’t producing that perfect food to my usual standards. I’ll live vicariously thru you tonight!

We are corn-on-the-coboholics here and eat it pretty much every night when in season. Sadly, it’s almost over — then we become squash-oholics. Have a lovely weekend! -amy

We’ve enjoyed sweet corn quite a few times this summer. Bought it at Kroger grocery store. I think it was grown locally so it was quite fresh and VERY sweet. There is a farm just about 2 miles down the road from us and they sell to Kroger. Also have a country market about 3 miles away and when Hubby does not have ripe tomatoes here and home I generally find some good ones there.

Love your little pitcher. I collect pitchers.

Hi sweetie, I just got through reading all the posts that I had missed here, and am almost in tears over the one about your mom. I wish for you that things were different. It must be so hard to see this. I love that you showed your darling photo and the one of your beautiful mother in the post.
I also LOVE your livingroom!!! What a warm and inviting space to dwell. I wouldn’t ever hire a decorator either. I want everything to mean something to me…just like you said, everything must have a story attached. Your coffee table is beautiful. I have one similar that has been cut down. I love how big and round and the fact that my feet can rest on it.
I love seeing into your lovely home…and heart.
    hugs

I love getting veggies from fresh food stands or farms. Especially in the summer, I crave fresh produce.

I recently listened to a local farmer explain that the flats flooding each year adds to the flavor of the corn? interesting right?

Your description of the corn-on-the-cob made my mouth water. Wish we lived where we could purchase some of the delicious corn. I too remember that dorm food. Lovely photos. I’m off to your new blog.

The picther is darling. Have you ever had “fried” corn in a cast iron skillet? It’s really sauteed with butter (or bacon grease)… yummy. My mother used to make it every summer and of course I cannot cook corn like she did. hugs♥olive

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
