Pretty Blossoms and Kelee’s Giveaway

April 11, 2010 at 4:27 pm by Claudia

This Weigela bush came with the cottage – it is on the far side of the property, near our shed. It blooms in the spring…sometimes. We’ve been here five springs and I can usually spot a few blossoms buried in the depths of the bush. I pruned it a couple of Junes ago, hoping it would eventually bring more flowers. At last – this year it is blooming up a storm! I love the color of the delicate blossoms, a sort of pinkish-orangeish -red. That’s my professional name for the color.

When we moved in at the end of August in 2005, this bush was big, overgrown and green. That was it. The next spring, I happened to spy a few blooms…I went into detective mode until I figured out just what kind of bush it was. I am so happy to see it really take off this year.

Have you stopped by The Katillac Shack yet? What’s stopping you? If you’re just now catching up on my posts, I am featured as a Shackster, along with Heidi. That means I get my own room at The Katillac Shack. Kelee, the amazing woman behind this fabulous blog, is having a giveaway in our honor. Swoon! Look at those cottagey colors! And that vase on the right is McCoy. Oh yes. Quite frankly, I would love to win this giveaway, but that would be a mite too grabby, don’t you think? But you can win. So go on over, read all about us and leave a comment!

Okay, my friends, I have so much to do this week before I leave on Saturday that I am in a bit of a panic. Not to mention the fact that every time I look at my husband and my dogs and my garden, I get very, very sad.

Have a great Monday.

Oh, my dear those blossoms are so lovely. The color is perfection. I love all the spring fruit blossoms, bulbs and flowering bushes.

Have fun packing. I know you will miss your hubby, dogs and cottage.

    Enjoy…

At least this year it’s not for as long as last year!

I worry about Kodak when I’m just gone for overnight, LOL, and anymore he stresses when his whole family isn’t together when they should be.

I have never seen a bush or bloom like your Weigela bush. It is so gorgeous! I would love to see a really close up photo of the bloom.
    Does it have a fragrance?
It is so great that you took notice of it and pruned it.

I am sewing Shop Chic bags right now in the very same shade as your blooms here!

The fabric name was simply “Carnation Pink”…so maybe that’s what you can label the shade!

it is beautiful and I’m so glad to have come by to see your pretty pictures!

    Hi Claudia:
Love that beautiful bush! The color is incredibly brilliant.

I can only imagine how hard it’s going to be for you to travel again this year. I don’t think I could do it, girlfriend. Have a good week enjoying home as you prepare to go away for a while.

    Hi Claudia,
I’m so honored to share a “room” at the Katilac Shack with you! And I agree, Kelee is the absolute best – what a sweetheart! Your flowering bush is beautiful -I’ve never heard of a weigela plant before. It’s wonderful when blossoms finally sprout from nothing. I’ve been waiting for 10 years to see some wisteria blossoms on the vines near our house. I think they may have been planted in the wrong spot, but I haven’t given up hope!
Have a good week, and a great trip.
    XO

    Claudia,
With Easter holidays & all I’ve fallen behind on my blog reading. Your Weigela bush is beautiful! I’ve never heard of one. I get so jealous of girls like you who get to grow beauties like lilacs, our climate is terrible for plants like that. I do have some hosta’s tho, yours are so pretty. Isn’t wonderful when spring comes & the garden comes to life, regardless of the winter neglect. It comes anyway! I’ll go check out Kelee’s blog & giveaway. Lisa

Beautiful blooms!!! What a great giveaway. I hope you win it!!! Just close your eyes and tap your heels together three times. Repeat….”There’s no place like home,” over and over and maybe your trip won’t seem so long.

    HI CLAUDIA,
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BUSH, NEVER HEARD THE NAME BEFORE, AND I LIVED IN NJ 70 YEARS.
HOW FORTUNATE YOU ARE TO HAVE ONE. I REMEMBER I HAD A LILAC BUSH FOR TEN YEARS, IT WAS BIG AND BEAUTIFUL, AND NEVER BLOOMED. MY SISTER GAVE ME A SMALL PIECE OF A LILAC BUSH, SO I PLANTED IN MY YARD A FEW FEET FROM THE OTHER ONE. THAT SUMMER I HAD THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LILACS. SOME BUSHES ARE LIKE THAT. WELL, THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVELY COMMENTS, AND HAVE A SAFE TRIP. RIZZI

I enjoyed learning more about you at the Katillac Shack. Especially enjoyed the story about the dresser. Some pieces become such a part of us and each chapter of our lives.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
