Printers, Typewriters and Rain

December 28, 2011 at 10:20 am by Claudia

Yesterday was about running errands, dealing with medical bills and attempting to get my printer to actually do its job and print out a script. I had the dubious pleasure of spending an hour and half trying to get that sucker to print every page. Not just every other page. And not to print 10 pages and then start over and print them again. Or tell me, over and over, that there was no paper in the printer when there was. I finally realized that a cheap, plastic part at the rear of the printer was becoming loose and I had to stand in an extremely awkward position and push against it to make sure it stayed in place. You would have loved that picture of me – hunched over, with my back protesting and a stream of curse words coming from my mouth – while 89 pages slowly printed out.

Makes you appreciate the simplicity of the typewriter. This is Don on Christmas morning, playing with his new favorite thing. (In the beginning days of this blog, I used to ask Don if it was alright to post photos of him. Now – I just post them.)

Anyway, after all the printer drama, I ended up getting a late start on my text research. It also rained heavily and I was constantly running upstairs to see if the roof was leaking. (It didn’t.) So I’ll be back at it today.

By the way, I’ve discovered that finding actual typing paper – not printer paper or all purpose paper – is next to impossible. Remember typing paper? I bought some parchment paper at Office Depot but it was a bit pricey, so I will have to investigate this further.

Normally, I hate photos of me. Especially now that the March of Time is clomping all over my face and neck. But Don took this one the other day.

I could use some lipstick but, otherwise, it might work for the blog at some point. Hello, 59 and one month. Yikes.

Time to feed the dogs. Have a great day!

The picture is very good of you Claudia. We have a wireless printer that we left in the box for months, lost the receipt for it of course, then none of us after hours and hours and many attempts cannot get it to work with the laptop. So we have a copier. The store said we could call a consultant over the phone for sixty dollars for help. Give me a non wireless printer any day. I am about to go the way of Don and use our vintage Royal typewriter.

I can’t tell you how many printers I have bought over the last few years. We finally got a big multi purpose office type machine by Brother and it only prints in black and white, and I love it. Join the club in the hating pics of self. I am always surprised I am not that perky looking anymore…it is all dropping southward…UGH!

You look great! Very, very sweet & youthful looking for 59!

But for most of us I think Dolly Parton’s quote as Truvy in Steel Magnolias is absolutely true:

“Honey, time marches on and eventually you realize it is marchin’ across your face.”

Let us know when you find a source for typing paper!

Love the photo of you… nary a day goes by that I don’t put on a bit of lipstick, in fact I have some sitting right here at my computer…..I LOVE it and it makes me feel good about my aging face, which by the way will be 58 in a bit over a month. Time does march all over us, doesn’t it?

You look mahvelous, dahling!(hard to type with an accent, does that look like Billy Crystal says it?) Seriously, you do look fantastic. Just go into Photoshop and apply that lipstick!
Gosh, I never even thought about typing paper, guess it’s all but disappeared after the advent of the computer and printer. Another piece of our childhoods lost.
Have a great day, hope the rain’s let up by now!

I don’t care for photos myself either. I look so much older and heavier than I feel! You look wonderful!

What ~ don’t like pics of yourself? Why??? Just look at those adorable dimples, almond shaped eyes and sweet smile. Your kind nature just radiates through your face. Stand up and be proud girl!

Sorry about your printer woes. It seems they have minds of their own. I’ve never met one that behaved.

Love that you are posting people pictures! It’s nice to see who is doing the writing. You look lovely, and 59 is the new 49!

Claudia, I think you look great. You have beautiful eyes. Also, you look so kind and approachable which is a very good thing. I don’t know too many people who like photos of themselves. Personally, I never look the same on any photo that is taken of me. Wish I were 59 again. If only! Sigh! I also am having printer trouble. For some reason, my printer became disconnected from my computer. I will have to try and fix that. Hope I succeed. I feel lost without my printer. Don looks good on that photo. Have a nice day!

Funny life is so complicated at times just to get the simplest things done. My hubs is trying to put in a new fawcet and is off to the hardware store for a different part. I can tell he is very irritated by all the sighing. You look great. I never wear lipstick but often thing I would look a little less washed out if I did. I don’t like the feel of it though.

Claudia, I just love your blog. It just SO speaks to me in so many ways. I’m 49 years and 2 months….hope I look as good as you in 10 years! :) Love the typewriter thing..I have picked up a couple of them at garage sales and just can’t let them go..it would be so nice for everything to just slow down a bit! But I love the technology too (for if we didn’t have it, we wouldn’t be able to blog!) Keep up the great work on your blog!

My printer has a habit of telling me the lid is not closed properly, and of course I’ve closed it numerous times! I remember typing paper. My transcriber used it for my court transcripts, and carbon paper too, 0&5 copies, how nasty that was! And you look fabulous! I’m a big fan of us that sport the beauitful grey hair!

That’s such a cute photo of you Claudia :)

I see that Don has a one-finger ‘hunt and peck’ typing style – maybe I’d better pop over and give him some typing lessons – yep – I really do have a certificate as a Teacher of Typewriting – NOT KEYBOARD SKILLS – actual TYPEWRITING! That dates me too doesn’t it!!

    Claudia,

I hope I can look as good as you in another three years! This is a VERY nice picture of you. I hope to have your energy too! You’ve been posting nearly every day.

Boy, I can understand your frustration with the printer. I have had my share of printing drama over the past year.

I finally hit the follow button on your blog after checking in on a regular basis to see what you have been up do. I love reading your blog and can relate to you on so many levels.

You are a beautiful woman, Claudia! And I love that photo of Don too. He has great hair, by the way. Men his age typically do not. Not saying he’s old. Just that he…well, I’ll just shut up while I’m hopefully ahead of more blunders.

Can’t say I’ve looked for any typing paper for many years now. I don’t ask family members anymore either if I can use their photo. They just expect that if I’m taking the photo they may just find themselves on my blog. You look great no matter what your age, Claudia. I guess I share the same birth year as you. The next one is a biggie. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
