Puzzles and Computers

May 11, 2023 at 9:19 am by Claudia

Well, after 48 hours, I tried to turn on my laptop and nothing happened.  Very depressing. I have some decisions to make, but I’ll hold off for a bit. In the meantime, I’ll peck away on the iPad keyboard. Far from ideal, but better than nothing.

Forgot to show you the finished puzzle. I finished it on Sunday. As seems to be the case lately, there’s one piece missing. I know I didn’t drop it, so…who knows? Anyway, I worked on this for a long time with a longish break for rehearsals and 3 weeks of being sick. I love Renoir.

I didn’t keep my promise yesterday. Instead, I found myself mowing the lilac side of the lawn, the back forty, and the secret garden. All I can say is that sometimes when I’m very tired, I need to do something to get me through it. We still have to mow the front lawn and corral, but that can wait a few days. Meanwhile, Don did the recycling, several loads of laundry, and made an apple pie. Today, we are definitely taking it easy.

Oh, so pretty,

I somehow managed to transfer this photo from my big girl camera to my iPhone via Bluetooth. It wasn’t easy, at least this first time, and I MISS MY LAPTOP! There’s no slot for my camera chip on my iPad.

Writing via the iPad is tiring. I could buy a little keyboard for it, but it still can’t perform all the functions that my laptop does. It’s basically a large iPhone.

I’m going to warm up my coffee and contemplate the mess I’m in.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

I’m glad you and Don are feeling better.
Is there a Best Buy within an hour from you? Sometimes Geek Squad can fix laptops. Good luck and enjoy the sunny day.

This would be a very, very expensive fix, Betsy. And it’s a MacBook, not the Geek Squad’s specialty. But thanks for the suggestion!

      Stay safe.

sorry for your laptop woes. hope there’s a fix to your laptop or at least a nicely-priced new laptop soon ahead for you.

thanks for all the “pecking” and extra time required to post and share with us.

that looks like a fun puzzle … colorful, a scene of people having a good time, renoir …. i’ve looked and cannot see where a piece is missing. hope you find that piece.

sounds like don’s thumb/hand recovery is going very well. i am so happy for him and you!

i understand that feeling of just wanting to get something (like your mowing) done … for me, very often the satisfaction of crossing something off my to-do list/being able to mentally relax and sleep better is worth a longer day. glad if today you both take it easy.

did some grocery/supply shopping for members of my family yesterday after dinner and it took a very long time … some things have been hard to find again (bleach wipes, for one). same with a favored ice cream. went to several stores with the same outcome. became late enough that i brought their cold things (like milk) up to my refrigerator and left everything else in my car and will bring them over today. really glad to have my garage in an attached garage as well as having neighbors that i like and trust. and especially to spend time with my family. :)

    happy, safe thursday to everyone!

Sorry to hear about your laptop . I have no idea how hard it is to write a blog post and transfer pics on an iPad. So…thanks for all the effort.

Sounds like .Don was very ambitious yesterday…glad he is taking a day to rest his hand. And, so much for your day of rest yesterday, too. Hope you do rest up today too and enjoy the apple pie,

I think I’ll be doing some container planting…the weather outlook looks good. Anxious to get my hands in the dirt again. Enjoy your day! ;)

dear Claudia/Don — sorry re laptop — about a month ago, I spilled a cup of coffee w/flavoring on
the keyboard–dried it as much as I could, drained excess out and still worked but certain keys
“stick” so have to carefully check when I write — keyboard is closed, wireless even so not good to spill coffee on it — I am TOO clumsy!!!! puzzle is great — have been working on one since Christmas — it is not clearly defined w/muted/kind of fuzzy details — having a hard time w/it!!
hope you enjoy your country living. stay safe/healthy

My laptop was closed at the time and the water went in the side ports. Not good!

      Thanks so much.

Hi Claudia, daughters and I enjoyed an awesome trip to Greece and Rome. Now we’re back, with daughters isolating with COVID and I’m cook, sous chef and dishwasher, plus cat feeder. Sure am getting bc my steps in running up and down the stairs.

Pleased Don’s hand issue was addressed successfully. Hope your allergies are past.

Sorry about your laptop! Have you considered buying a dongle? Amazon has them pretty inexpensively and you can slot your SD card into the single and plug the dongle into your iPad. If you buy a new MacBook, you may need a dongle anyway, as the new ones don’t have SD card slots.

Thanks so much, Wendy! Just ordered one.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip, though I’m sorry about the Covid!

      Stay safe.

I’ve watched Dean with his iPad that he uses in the evening and suspected it would never do as a substitute for my laptop. You’ve just reinforced my hunch. My oldest told me my laptop, which dates to 2016 when I dropped mine, is now “obsolete.” He says I should consider getting a newer one but I don’t want to spend the money.

I have to tell you about the tragedy I witnessed yesterday. I heard something bump the dining room window and looked out in time to see a crow fly up to the robin’s nest at the top of our clematis trellis and snatch an egg in its beak before flying down onto the front yard. When I ran outside the crow flew across the street while I searched and found the egg in the grass. But it had a big hole in it and I could see the tiny robin inside. Last I saw of the crow it was flying down the street being chased by the robin. I haven’t seen the robin since.

I understand this is just nature unfolding but to witness it firsthand is just horrifying

I’m so sorry! That’s heartbreaking, the kind of thing that I hate seeing. I know it’s part of nature but how terrible!

My computer was from 2015 and it was working very well until the water incident.

      Stay safe, Kay.

You have to do what you have to do sometimes. You can’t be without your laptop. Does your new one have all the bells and whistles your old one doesn’t? Hope you can retrieve the data and files you need from the old one. Nice Dan felt up to making an apple pie. That’s on my agenda for tomorrow. Hugs, Elaine

That’s possibly my favorite Renoir painting. Did you read Susan Vreeland’s book about it? I can’t remember the title but it’s bio-fiction and fascinating. One of my favorites. He identified all the characters, including Caillebotte and Charles Ephrussi, who was key in the Hare with Amber Eyes, among others. Rick has a print of it in his bedroom.

So glad Don is on the mend!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
