Puzzling, Mowing, Playing

October 8, 2022 at 9:27 am by Claudia

The Belle Epoque world of the Impressionists puzzle has been completed. You can see the Eiffel Tower being built, the Moulin Rouge, Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, a reference to Jules Verne in the balloon, a ballet studio, some of the characters in Seurat’s famous “Sunday Afternoon on the Island of the Grand Jatte,” etc.

I love this kind of puzzle: lots of people, tiny little details, and in this case, a city I love.

I ordered a new one which should be arriving today. I realize now that there are two things I have to have on hand: a book and a backup book waiting in the wings, and a puzzle.

Three things: and a doll to dress:

This time, Holly got a fresh set of clothes. This particular dress is one of my favorites – made by my friend Lena who lives in Russia. Holly is so beautiful, I’m crazy about those eyebrows.

I had planned on going to the Sunday afternoon final dress rehearsal of the play, but they’ve changed the schedule. I suspect they needed another day to tech. But I’m disappointed because I’d much rather go in during the day rather than at night, which is what I’m going to have to do next week. I end up getting home very late, close to midnight. (I have a 2 hour+ commute both ways.) Since I normally go to bed at 10 pm, it throws me off. Sigh. But I have no choice, so Tuesday or Wednesday, I’ll have to go into the city for a preview performance.

Yesterday was beautiful. We hit a high of 74 degrees, it was sunny, and I mowed the back forty, the corral, and the Secret Garden. I also did a little weed trimming. By the time that was done, my back was hurting. So, I’m taking a day off today, and I’ll mow some more tomorrow.

But we’ve had a big drop in temperature overnight. The high today is only going to reach 57 degrees.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

All the girls are so lovely. Every time you post one, I think she’s my favorite until I see the next one…
Good to know your priorities- books and puzzles.

glad you felt good enough to mow and that the weather cooperated. and that you can take it easy today.

the puzzle looks fun. getting back to paris would be more fun. hope you and don can do that sooner than may now feel likely.

sorry for the change of schedule causing a later trip to new york city for you. i know you’ll make it work … just wish the timing was more to your liking.

colder here. yesterday i used my car’s heater for the first time this season and we had a state-wide freeze warning last night. just checked the temperature on my phone … 31 degrees. not ready!

this morning i get to pick up a painting i had framed. glad for that and especially to have the painting. i bought it online in the summer of 2020 from an artist from kuwait now living in new mexico. i love the image and idea of the painting (a burglar in an art museum gets mesmerized by a painting), her style of work, the color … a favorite shade of deep blue, layered in places, watered down in others. went on to buy two more of her paintings. one more thing to get framed … spreading that out as framing is so expensive (but worth it to me).

will run a couple quick errands for members of my family, too, then spend the day with them. might make some chili and dessert, if they want.

hope your back and don’s hand feel better and everyone has a nice, safe day today.

Sounds like a lovely painting, Kathy! And yes, framing is so expensive. We have to save some money and set it aside when we have something framed.

      Stay safe!

i have to do the same, claudia … set aside money for certain expensive things, like framing art.

around here in the 80s, there were a couple “u-frame-it” shops. staff helped with measuring mats and frames, explained the process, placed the order, etc. and when supplies came in, customers would put it all together … so it was a bit less expensive and also fun. did that a couple times with my mother and sister … :) haven’t seen a business like that in decades.

hope you are having a nice night. stay safe!

There was one around the corner from my first apartment in San Diego. I framed two big pieces there for a relatively modest amount of money. I haven’t seen one in years!

How are you able to make international friends?
    Are they online friends?

Well I do have friends in other countries, but the woman I was referring to is someone I ‘met’ through Blythe dolls. There are Blythe artisans from many different countries and I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know them online. The same with this blog – which has many readers from other countries. And my other IG accounts as well.

Having blogged for almost 15 years, I’ve found that ‘online’ friends are simply friends. I may have met them online, but that’s the only difference!

      Stay safe, Linda.

Maybe Don could drive you in for your work some time so you aren’t on the road alone so late. Also, your back wouldn’t get so sore if you could share the driving. Maybe he could plan an adventure while you are working!

I don’t drive to NYC as a rule. Neither does Don. When we have to be there for business we take the bus or the train.

      Stay safe, Ellen!

Holly does have beautiful eyebrows and I love her light dusting of freckles. Her new dress is darling and suits her to a T. Cute hat, too.

I like your three must-haves. Pretty similar to mine although I am not as proflic as you are when it comes to jig-saw puzzles. I do enjoy doing them, though, especially in the winter.

It’s turned cold here, too. Almost tempted to put the furnance on but will resist for a few more days at least. Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine

Actually, it’s not a new dress, I’ve had it a while and several of the girls have worn it!

      Stay safe, Elaine,

The puzzle is just lovely. Again, I would have zero patience doing one of those. I admire people who can do them!!

Holly’s outfit is very Fall-like! Looks like she is heading to a Corn maze/ pumpkin parch adventure!

Sorry the Sunday preview didn’t work out. I get how the arrival time of close to midnight is a hard one. Can goof up a sleep schedule for a couple of days. Is that the last trip for that job that you have to do, or are there any more ahead?

Take your time mowing tomorrow. It will still be there on Monday! Take care.

That will be the last trip for the job – since the budget is tight, I only have so many days on the show. Looks like we might go to next Sunday’s matinee, which is a preview, so I can take notes and Don can see the show.

      Stay safe, Chris.

I think we barely hit 50 and 25 mph today. Rick and his friend did an 85 mile bike ride — boy, did they work! Pretty brisk up here at the lake — two more days. I’ll miss it.

That puzzle is fabulous. Well done. Pity about the evening performance. Too bad there isn’t a Wednesday matinee preview.

I’m sorry it’s time to start packing up from your time at the lake, Jeanie. That must be bittersweet.

There’s a Sunday preview next week – matinee – so I’m hoping we can go then. Don wants to see the show and he knows Jim, so that would be perfect if it works out.

      Stay safe!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
