Quality Time With My China

August 6, 2011 at 1:44 pm by Claudia

Remember this set of china? The china I had to have and eventually found in 3 different auctions on Ebay? I wrote about them in this post and this post. Yesterday I opened the cabinet and spent some quality time with each piece. Do you ever do that? Do you ever walk around the house looking at your pottery and china with fresh eyes? I do.

They’re so beautiful.

I love them.

I don’t know whether I will ever have the occasion to use all these pieces, but if one arises…I’m ready.

In the meantime, knowing that they’re mine makes me smile.

Oh, we are kindred spirits. I love to play with my dishes, china, pottery & such. I am always moving things, featuring a few pieces here and there in the house. I am stopped in my tracks every time I go by someone’s china cabinet or side-board. I know that there are some beautiful dishes in there. Yours are so gorgeous. I can see why you love them so. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4 Hope you are feeling better now.

I love the colors, so soft and delicate. You must have had fun collecting the pieces and then to have the set completed!

    Lovely set!
I’m on a china kick lately, too. And yep, mine definitely make me smile, especially when I get a killer deal on hem at the thrift shop.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Claudia,

    The china pattern is so pretty. I know you are having a good time “petting” it. :0) I have my grandmother’s china set that is SO beautiful. I use it everyday. Bless her soul, she’d roll in her grave if she knew about it. {giggle}

    Have a wonderful day,
    Stephanie Suzanne ♥

Looking at my dishes makes me smile. I’m selling many of them. But I will keep my very favorites. That is one beautiful set. I remember when you started buying them.

I do take out my dishes and do the same thing Claudia. For many years I was a little addicted to china. My grandmother was an antiques dealer and I was given different pieces or sometimes full sets that I loved in her shop or auctions as Birthday and Christmas gifts. I was always afraid to use them except for special occasions in case they got damaged. Now I use them for whatever, when I feel the need to feel special. It is always like my Birthday or Christmas when I open the cupboard and rediscover the lovely old pieces I cherish, not just because of their beauty but because of how I came to be their proprieter for now.

    Hey Girlfriend,

I know exactly what you’re talking about, only not as it occurs with china. I’ve had a love affair with a certain pattern from England and cannot seem to find enough pieces anywhere. Since I host Thanksgiving for about 20-30 every year I’d love to furnish it with china…….ha, like that will ever happen! I love the creaminess of yours and those little tab handles on the sides……you are very blessed.

    Hugs,
    Meri

You should serve dinner for two on them from time to time or make a special cup of tea and enjoy them!! My mother took out her china the last few years and used them daily. She said “I am going to use my good stuff every day and she did even for hamburger helper! It was fun!
You set is lovely and I can understand your being content looking at it!

Looking at my “stuff” does make me happy because there is usually a story attached to each piece – that’s what’s nice about collecting little by little – it seems more meaningful. Lovely china, Claudia. Ann

What beautiful dishes, Claudia! I can understand why you would want to just simply enjoy looking at them. After all, that’s what we do when we go to a store. We pick up and admire. So why not admire our own beautiful things! I think it’s a good thing to do. I have four bookshelves in my living room filled with books and knick knacks. It took me a very long time to put the look together. But, it makes my living room so interesting. Well, to me, anyways! These bookcases are really the focal point of the room. Anyways, they never seem to stop fascinating me and I am really appreciating them all the time since they’re just there. I think you will know what I mean and so will the ladies who read this. It’s just so nice when we love our things.

I remember when you found this china. It is so pretty! Claudia, you have to create the reasons to use the china. When you feel better of course. You invite a few girlfriends over for lunch. Or brunch. Or whatever meal works. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It can even be potluck. But you set the table (or your buffet line) with your pretty dishes. For that matter you and you husband can use them for dinner, just the two of you.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
