Rain, Rain, Go Away – Please

June 18, 2019 at 9:38 am by Claudia

Just add lots of rain to this picture and that’s our current situation. It’s raining very hard and as I sit here, I can see catalpa blossom after catalpa blossom float to the ground. The rain will be their undoing.

And the rain will force the finale of these:

I know all good things must come to the end, but darn it, the catalpa just bloomed! Ask me how sick of the rain I am. Go ahead. Although maybe you shouldn’t as you’re bound to hear some curse words. We have rain today through Friday. Rain, thunderstorms, blah, blah, blah. I am so, so, SO sick of it.

As I was drinking my first cup of coffee this morning, I checked my email and there was a notice from my security company that came around midnight saying my site was down. I looked at the clock and figured that since it was 7 am, it was probably back up by now. Nope. So I called my hosting company and they verified that there was a big problem with the server and my blog was one of those affected. Drat. In that kind of situation, there’s nothing I can do but wait it out. So I made our second cup of coffee, sat on the sofa with Don and chatted. I’m glad to say it’s back up now – obviously – or I wouldn’t be writing this!

I’m trying to change my reaction to these technical mishaps that are beyond my control. They tend to push my “worry” button, but in the end, all I can do is talk to my host, or in the case of other problems, talk to my security company. That’s why I have them.

Anyway, all is well, for the time being.

Edited to add: If you tried to visit the blog during that time and found a message saying it couldn’t be contacted or something like that – the exact wording depends on the browser – it doesn’t mean you were blocked. It just means the server was down and my blog was also down. If the server is down, my blog can’t be located on the web. I say this because I got an email from a reader thinking she had been blocked. If you had been blocked – which I rarely do and only if I’ve been harassed or threatened repeatedly – the message on your browser would be a different one, specific to no longer having access.

I saw Lonesome Dove perched on an electrical wire this morning. I’ve only seen him at the birdbath one time this spring and I miss him. I opened the window in the den and, sure enough, I could hear his haunting call.

What to do with all this rain this week? I tend to get stir crazy. Yes, of course, I’ll read. Maybe I’ll finally clear out and sort through the items in my dresser drawers – one of my least favorite things to do. I have to buy a birthday present for a certain someone whose birthday is next Monday. (Hint: he’s in the next room playing his guitar at the moment.)

I’m on my 11th or 12th day without sugar. I have a major sweet tooth and, even though I wasn’t eating all that much sugar, I was having some every day, and one day I just said, “Enough.”

I’ve done this before and it was time to do it again. I’m not having any major withdrawal symptoms, but I do feel more energetic and that’s good. Hopefully, I’ll lose a bit of weight in the bargain.

Okay. I’m off to figure out what I’m doing today.

Happy Tuesday.

sorry you are dealing with so much rain and server/blog glitches. glad at least some of it is better.

i’d take your rain if i could!

my default is worrying. hate it. working on it.

and cutting out sugar, too. not fun, but i have hopes of feeling better.

glad you saw and heard your lonesome dove. that last photo (of your dove statue and some unknown-to-me pretty pink flowers) is especially sweet.

    happy tuesday to all!

They’re a kind of trailing geranium, Kathy. I use them in the barrels by the Funky Patio, as well.

Sorry to hear about all the rain. Ours did not materialize last night…maybe today? Maybe not.

Everybody (I’m obviously talking about your plants) looks to be doing well on your porch. They must be happy there!

I sort of gave up sugar at the beginning of the year. By sort of…I stay away on a daily basis, but allow myself some dessert once or twice a month. I have much more energy, my joints hurt less, and I’ve lost some weight. All positives. And truth be told, I really don’t miss the daily piece of chocolate. When I do indulge, it’s all the more sweeter.

Cleaning dresser drawers? Sounds like a good rainy day activity, if you want to be productive. That’s the question, isn’t it? Me…I’d just rather lay around and read a good book. Whatever you do…enjoy it! ;)

I’ve already noticed that my sometimes problematic knee feels better! Fingers crossed on losing some weight. Thanks, Donnamae!

Same thing going on with the rain here. Today it is sunny. One stinkin’ day. But that’s ok, we’ll take it! I’m drinking my morning smoothie while reading blogs and then I’m going to enjoy every second of this beautiful day. Brian’s home (some vacation days), so we’ll actually grill tonight. Otherwise, if you look at our extended forecast, there is rain all day tomorrow, then scattered t-storms every single day for the next 10 days. It has been raining pretty much non-stop since April. If our peppers and tomatoes ever grow this season (lack of sun and heat), it’ll be a miracle.

Good for you for staying away from the sugar! I started that several years ago and to this day, rarely indulge. I don’t miss it and I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. (Not only ditching the sugar, but filling up on a lot more veggies and fruits in general, too.) In my late 50’s, I’m at my lowest weight since being in my 20’s!

Well, I hope you can find something to do today that will ease your stir-craziness. A trip to an antique store, bookstore, museum, or library, perhaps?

I’m just hanging around the house because it’s been raining so heavily! Reading, talking to Don – it’s all good!

I would happily send you some of our doves. We have SOOO many of them!! The Orioles are still going through a lot of grape jelly. I am thinking the babies may have hatched with all the activity going on the past several days.

As Donnamae said, we never got any rain yesterday. Chance tonight and then the next 6 days are also showing rain. Oh, what fun. I was out and about earlier today and I am thinking that this weather must be what Hostas love, because they are huge all over town. If we don’t get some sun, along with warmer days and nights, I don’t think we will harvest much from our veggie garden this year.

Well, hope you had a good day. If you got things done ~ yay!! ~ and if you read and chatted the day away ~ yay to that, too!! There is always tomorrow.

We have other doves around here but Lonesome Dove is my favorite.

Everything in my garden is larger than usual and/or blooming much more than usual. I guess that’s one of the few positive things about the excessive rain!

Hello there from the UK…we are down in the south west and have also had rain almost every day since June started with no sign of a let up….still lighting a fire every evening as it is so chilly! I think the weather across the globe had gone a bit crazy this year…

It has, Helen! We also had rain right through May, so we’re incredibly water-logged here!

Dear Claudia, Your catalpa tree is magnificent. In all my years in the Berkshires, I never saw a catalpa.tree. Yours is a beautiful specimen. You are lucky to have right there in your yard. I sent you an email about some egg cups. Did you receive it?

What address did you send it to? If you sent it to the address associated with the email version of my posts, I’ll never get it. That address is purely for sending out the post. I can’t respond to any emails sent to that address, and I don’t even receive them. I haven’t received anything from you at my other email addresses. Send the email to the address at the top of the blog sidebar – just click on the envelope icon.

Gee, your day didn’t start out so good. Hopefully the rain finally let up. I covet your cute porch so much!

With all the rain we’ve had keeping me from doing the outside stuff I want to do, I have taken on inside projects (cleaning out the basement, organizing my upstairs craft room, etc). It’s been so wet and so cool that today, with its sunny 70’s vibe, actually let me spend time on the patio for the first time in days. It was a shock to see how green, tall and bushy the garden is. So different from gazing at it out the windows. But this is Wisconsin. When the cold wetness finally leaves for good it’ll be 90’s and humid. No middle ground here.

So glad you got to spend time on the patio, Kay! We are the same as you, we’ll get humidity. I’m thinking it will start next week as temperatures stay in the 80s for the first time!

We have had some rain storms today and they will continue through the week I think. We are lucky to have had some sunny days in between. I am in a reading drought. I’ve been like this before but I hope it ends soon. Seems like I can’t concentrate and then when I read I also fall asleep. I think I’m about to pick a book and try again. Some things in my life are in an upswing and I’m grateful for that always.

I just don’t read a thing about sugar that’s good for us.

Diff view of your porch; so nice. This must be around the side from your glider.

Hoping you weather picks a middle ground soon!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
