This is the best I can do for you today – a quick photo of the coffee table. I’m exhausted and it’s raining outside and very dark inside, so photo possibilities are very few and far between.
These days in NYC are very tiring. It’s not the actual work, that’s not at all tiring. It’s – as Don calls it – the logistics. Driving to the train station, the hour and a half journey on the train, the subway, endless sets of stairs in Grand Central and the subway stations, maneuvering through a sea of umbrellas in the rain, running to get some lunch before the matinee. Then, a matinee that started late for some reason, which required a speed walk to the subway station after the show ended so I could go up and down stairways again before I caught the #6 train, stopped at Grand Central (more stairs) and just made it to my train home. I didn’t get the chance to drink enough water, and the water I would have purchased at Grand Central was an impossibility because I had to catch the train. We won’t mention the runs to the bathroom. So I was dehydrated, which didn’t help.
When I was working on the movie, I faced much the same situation, but since I was there for 6 weeks, I built up my stamina and was in great shape by the end of my time there. Now, I do this sporadically, so every time I go in it’s like I’m doing it for the first time. It’s always been a tiring process, but I certainly feel it more at this age. Now, just imagine, Don used to have to do all of the same things for a 5 minute or less audition. Much worse.
All that is to say I’m tired today.
As I remind my husband on a daily basis, I don’t need the problem solved, I just need to talk about it.
At least I got to see the show again! It’s delightful and funny and moving.
I have to type up my notes this morning and send them to the actors. And then I’m going to do nothing. Maybe I’ll start my new puzzle. I read a lot this morning while sipping coffee. Very nice indeed.
We’re due for rain for the next three days. Sigh.
I know. There was a time this summer when I yearned for rain. Now, we’re getting too much – not really, of course, our water table needs it – but “too much” for my state of mind.
Okay.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.

I totally get the “I just need to talk about it”. My husband is a great guy who is an engineer. It’s his job to solve problems and he’s very good at it but…the talking thing is beyond his comprehension! :)
It will be raining here all week too. Looks like I will be doing garden clean up until December!
It’s a good day to curl up with a book.
Claudia says
Me too with the garden cleanup!
Stay safe, Betsy.
kathy in iowa says
sorry about the logistical hassles, but glad you thought well of the show and are home.
and i understand “i just need to talk about it”.
good luck with the rain.
we had a teeny bit of rain last night … it started on my way back home last night and ended before i pulled into the garage (less than ten miles). it is overcast now and we have a nearly 90% chance of rain forecast for today. i hope we get it … much needed.
also, i am so grateful to have that garage and a dedicated parking space! and the garage is attached to the building! got my first dedicated parking space at age 51 and the first attached garage at 59 … no more scrambling with other people for a spot! and this is the first time, as an adult, that i have a flat driveway … all appreciated, even more during winter months. :)
as you know, i like when you talk about books you’re reading and ask what we’re reading … adds to my now-very-long”tbr” list. i also greatly enjoy looking at home tours to see how people decorate, how they arrange their furniture, what they put on their walls, etc. … gives me ideas for my own space and is another way of getting to know people. all that said, thanks for the photo of your table (and everything else you share) … lovely!
hope you all have a great day (always) and stay safe.
kathy

After years of living in apartments, often having to find parking on the street somewhere, I can understand how wonderful it is to have a parking space!
Stay safe, Kathy.

I tell my friends and family…say it…then it is out the window…have good day my friend
Claudia says
Yes, it really helps.
Stay safe, Brenda.

I does sound exhausting. I think the rain today is just in time — you need a low-level day, one where you can rest and regroup. Savor it!
Claudia says
Yes, it helped. I’m feeling better today.
Thanks so much, Jeanie.
Stay safe.

It sounds like quite the ordeal you have to go through on your trips for the theater. Glad you have a day to rest up. I also totally understand the need “to just talk about it”. Some things don’t need a solution….they just need an airing.
We were able to do quite a bit of garden clean up and leaf removal this weekend because the weekend was absolutely delightful. It did rain last night, which will prevent our leaf piles from scattering, and more is predicted tonight. However, it was so windy last night, that more leaves have fallen, and we get to do more raking all over again. Oh goody.
Enjoy your rainy day…great excuse to nap, too! ;)
Claudia says
We have leaves everywhere because we obviously have a lot of trees and we keep getting rain and wind. Sigh.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Linda in Ky says
dear Claudia/Don — sorry re your exhaustion but your work is good AND you have excellent sounding board/s. this can get worse w/age haha!! just ask me how I know!! glad for your rain just wishing for some here for us — there is BIG maybe for the middle of the week. stay safe and healthy
Claudia says
More rain today, Linda. And tomorrow!
Stay safe!

I love your saying about just needing to talk about it! I’m jealous of your rain. We had an extremely wet summer and then it just stopped, 6 weeks without rain. If i do water the grass/plants then the armadillos come at night and uproot anything with moisture in it, destroying everything in the process. (See, I feel better just talking about it!!)
Claudia says
I hope you get some rain, Jen. I understand how frustrating that can be.
Stay safe.
Elaine in Toronto says
It’s good to talk about things even when there is no real solution. You and Don certainly earn your pay checks. You almost need hazard pay when you travel to New York. Rest up and enjoy the rainy day all nice and cozy with each other. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Elaine.
Stay safe.
Linda MacKean says
I have found it such a change in lifestyle as I age. I must plan more and make choices of what I want to do and can do. I’m happy you had a good trip and got to see the play again. Hugs.
Claudia says
Yes, me too. I don’t like it one bit!
Stay safe, Linda.
Barrie says
I completely understand the need to just talk…glad you did! Take care!

Thanks so much, Barrie.

Claudia says
I did. Thank you Linda.

Deb in Phoenix says
I’m glad somebody rested with me. Today was my birthday and I did nothing all day and stayed in my PJ’s, just how I wanted it. Went out last night for pizza with the family, so that was my celebration. Got some beautiful flowers and roses today from Bill. Gracie was my constant companion today too. We are having perfect weather as we are done with the monsoons. Hope you got some relief after your busy trip. Take care.
kathy in iowa says
happy kind-of-belated birthday, deb (it’s just after midnight here in iowa, but not for you in az)!!! hope this will be the start of a great year ahead for you and your family!
