Random Thoughts on a September Morn

September 1, 2009 at 9:07 am by Claudia

Some random thoughts:

Thought 1: I have blogs I follow and blogs that are bookmarked on my browser. I stop by most of them every day or every few days. My point is that I usually am up to speed on recent blog posts. So when I click on a blog and find it gone…I am always taken by surprise. Has this happened to you? Suddenly there is a message saying the blog no longer exists and that the name is available. What happened? I know the demands of blogging can become too much for some bloggers. Or life changes or crises get to be too overwhelming and trying to maintain a happy blog feeling just can’t be done anymore. In recent weeks, two bloggers I know said they were taking an extended break from blogging. In one case, the blog remained. An extended break for the other blogger meant totally deleting the blog. Sometimes a blogger will take the time to explain why the blog is being deleted. Sometimes the blog is suddenly gone. Just yesterday, I clicked on another blog to find it completely missing – erased.

I don’t know about you, but when this happens I get worried about my blogging friends. I wonder what has happened. Is my blogging friend okay? Is there a way to contact them? Quite often there isn’t and I’m left feeling sad and worried. Blogs come and go, I know, but when they suddenly disappear from my radar screen it is unsettling. What have been your experiences with this?

Thought 2: If you have been reading my blog you know that August was hot and rainy and humid. Today, September 1, there is a chill in the air and I would swear it was October. How quickly the weather can change! I’m sure it will get hot again this September but I am enjoying being covered with a warm throw as I blog this morning.

Thought 3: I have to clean the refrigerator today. I hate cleaning out the refrigerator. I also have to gather tax info. We are notorious for filing for extensions. Every year. This is due to the fact that almost every year one of us is gone during tax season. Also, we freelance – my husband is an actor and therefore gets lots of W-2s for residuals. He also has a lot of receipts, as have I. It makes for tax craziness. We also don’t like dealing with finances or figures. Hey, we’re in the Arts, what can I say?

Happy September 1st!

Taxes brings up the same feelings as going to the dentist!!!

I know what you mean, Claudia. I’d worry too, especially when the blog is completely gone with no explanation.

A few bloggers I follow are taking a break and I hope all is well with them.

Have fun cleaning out the frig :) I just don’t like doing any kind of household chores, LOL

    Hugs,
    Marsha

    Good Morning Claudia!
Could you ship some of the cool weather my way? I would so appreciate it. However we did get a really good rain storm at our home last night. It poured for about an hour. We so needed that rain. I am so happy to hear that someone else feels the same way I do about when bloggers just drop off the face of the earth. It makes some of us worry so much abou them. You see I am like you, I always wonder what happened to make then this way. I so love my blog. It is a stress reliever for me. I am on a computer all day (10 hours) a day and love to come home and blog, because I am doing something that I so love. It has helped me to wake up and enjoy life, share moments with friends. I have met some of the most wonderful friends in the world, that have shared their love with my family many times. I cannot imagine my life without all of you in it. Thank you Claudia for being such a precious star in my life. You are exceptional. Country hugs and love, Sherry

I sympathise with you on the fridge front – I have that task this week plus defrosting the freezer as we are about to move. It has also grown colder today here where I am and I’m not a spiritual person or anything but there is a weird energy in the air…like a sense of foreboding…it isn’t great and I hope it will go away. As for missing bloggers, it is a shame when they go – it would be nice of them to leave a message but maybe they feel no one will miss them? I try to encourage those as much as possible if they ever express feelings of self-doubt on whether to continue or not. Even if you don’t write often it is such a great outlet and place for ideas and inspiration…I do worry too – there is a blogger I know who has a sickly daughter and she’s been missing for 3 weeks now. Her last post was when her daughter was about to go in for surgery…it does make you worry and hope they are okay. I have left messages, let’s hope they reach her. xxx

    hi claudia,

know what you mean. i remember one of the first people to ever regularly leave me comments took a long break and i left her a comment that i was worried about her. she saw it and then explained she was taking a break. i completely understand. we really come to think of one another quite a bit.

i am loving this little chill in the air. my curly hair is blown-out straight today and i am thrilled. i bought a cute corduroy dress at old navy on sale and want some tights for it!

taxes are a drag. especially when you freelance, etc., hopefully you have someone you can drop all the papers off to and let them work their magic!

i’m off to sneak in a little antiquing today while the boys are at school!

I have had that happen too…and get sad wondering where they went. Some I find have just opened a new one elsewhere or under a new name due to various circumstances. Either way…I do prefer when they explain beforehand!

I think we have the same weather patterns here…I just told my husband it feels like it suddenly switched to fall already…maybe that’s why we got sick! ;)

    {oh and thinking of getting our taxes prepared already has me up at night…it takes forever with my business stuff!}

As always…I love visiting your peaceful blog…

Happy September 1st to you too Claudia!
I haven’t had your experience yet, but I suspect that I too would wonder about what happened & hope that everything is okay in their world!
I cleaned my fridge out yesterday so that I could fit in the fresh groceries I had just brought home!

I recently discovered a blog I follow was deleted too. I’m wondering if it’s the same one. She was one on my very first dedicated followers and I’m so disappointed she’s gone. I was under the impression she was just taking a break as well, it was rather suddden and a bit strange that she was completely gone one day. I hope that she is alright too and just found other, more important priorities to fulfill her time. I wish her all the best though and hope we hear from her again one day. Happy September Claudia!

And, cleaning frig, made me smile. =0)

and taxes, well at least you have explained why i don’t like them or numbers, or bookkeeping, or that whole end of things.

One up, Claudia, did fridge the other day.

Yes, when a blog disappears into the wind, you do wonder about the person because you have created a bond with them. I have some of the loveliest ‘new’ friends ever that I’ve met on the computer …

Have a beautiful week. TTFN ~ Marydon

Oh I know what you mean when you pop over to visit only to find that the blog is gone. I worry about the same thing. Blogging can be a tad busy, but I think that most of us realize that we can do only what our schedules allow for us to do. I only wish I had a lap top so I could do more visiting when I had a down minute or two.

    Happy 1st!

    Hi Claudia,

I’ve only been blogging since March and haven’t yet experienced a blog pal that’s taken an extended break or deleted their blog. I’m sure it’s concerning, we get attached to our blog pals and consider them friends.

I can’t wait for cooler weather, it’s been horrid here and the wild fire has grown to over 120 acres! My car was covered in ash this morning. We sure could use some rain here to help with the firefighting effort. They are saying that the fire won’t be contained until 9/15!!

Don’t even get me started on taxes…I’m the worst!!!

I have not been blogging for very long but I can understand how hard it would be to just have blogger friends disappear. Love the picture of your front porch. Sure would be nice to drop by for a chat. Have a nice evening. Dogwood

Sorry about the refrigerator! It is lovely here today too! Sunny and cool! YEAH!!!
I too have a problem with some of my blogs I follow, BUT I also am getting error messages on new posts and just click it again and it comes up. Blogger is not working well lately esp. with updates and followers. But I do know a few who have said goodbye and it has been a sad few weeks. I know we don’t really KNOW each other but I still worry when someone has such a life event they cannot log in once a week. Life is hard sometimes and I really hate that part. Glad you are still here and having a great Fall day!

There’s been several I frequent that have just disappeared. I’ll be honest…I don’t get it. I mean, I get why someone would want a break. I even understand why they would want to give up blogging completely. But to delete the entire blog? I just don’t understand why anyone would do that. Especially knowing what we put into our blogs…I mean, there’s a whole lot of me, the people I love & the things I cherish living in those web pages. I could never just erase it all.

Hi Claudia, I have lost favorite blogs, as well, and I do find myself hoping all is well.

Our weather has been so unseasonably cool that we’ve been able to turn off the A/C at night, and sleep with the windows open.(Believe me, that’s quite unusual for August, in the South.) I love being lulled to sleep by the songs of the katydids and crickets, such a sweet cacophony.

    Best Wishes,
    Kay

Oh, I can so relate to the whole tax thing. I think it’s an artsy person thing– I found a tax guy to do THREE years worth of taxes for me this year. I’m hoping that the cycle will be broken now.

About that fridge…best of luck to you. I procrastinate cleaning the fridge almost as badly as I procrastinate doing my taxes!

My fridge is waiting for a clean up too. The power went out for a few hours over a month (!) ago. My ice cream melted all over the freezer and it is still there… I am such a bad housekeeper!
Hope your missing friends reappear soon. That happens with Blogger sometimes. Maybe they will be back?

It’s amazing how connected we get through blogging and when someone disappears or stops, it’s like a death in the family. I hope all will be well. Isn’t amazing when you find something in the back of the frig when you’re cleaning it and you realize it’s been in there for weeks! Out of sight, out of mind! Have a good September.

Not all blog breaks are planned. I think sometimes life simply overwhelms a person, and trying to explain, or take on even the thought of being accountable to one more person or thing, is more than they can find the emotional energy for. That has happened to me, and I know that it gives the appearance of being uncaring at times, but truly, life can come at you so fast sometimes, that all you can do is hang on, and take care of yourself. Hopefully, your blog readers will understand in the end.

I know what you mean about blogs disappearing…I wonder about them too. I haven’t posted as much this summer as usual. I just haven’t been able to keep up. I post in the early morning and it seems that I’ve just had the energy drained right out of me. Claudia, you are so sweet. I’m so glad we met through blogging. I am fascinated with your freelancing work. We do land surveying and land development…so I totally understand about tax issues to the should I say “self employed”. Have a wonderful Labor DAy sweetie. xo rachel

“Hey, we’re in the Arts. What can I say?” Amen to that, Claudia… Creative minds were NOT meant to deal with crunching numbers and tax deadlines… I’m procrastinating on Q3 as I type this! ha ha…
And re: disappearing blogs, yes, that has happened to me several times. One blogger has changed names several times and I’ve been fortunate enough to find her each and every time because I enjoy her blog… Another one disappeared completely, but then restarted (phew)… Her blog is bright and beautiful and I hated to think it was gone for good (it’s Libbybuttons on my sidebar)…Donna

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
