I mowed a lot on Saturday when I should have been reading this 897 page book which is due tomorrow.
It clearly isn’t going back to the library on time.
But I read a lot yesterday and I read quite a bit this morning before starting this post. I’ll keep plugging away. I did lose a big chunk of time on Sunday afternoon to the awful Mets game, in which they blew their chance for the post season.
Enough said about that.
It’s been quite warm outside; too warm for the scenery around me which is full of leaves floating to the ground, leaves on the ground, and fall colors everywhere. I’d like to be wearing a sweater right now instead of a t-shirt. Ah well, soon enough it will be quite cold.
The play has only one more week before it closes. I swear, runs are getting shorter and shorter, but this particular theater has the shortest runs I’ve ever seen. They had 5 preview performances and a 2 week run. In the ‘old days’ at the Globe, we had a week of previews and a 4 week run. But in the intervening years, regional theaters have decreased rehearsals by about a week and performances as well. It all comes down to money, of course. Part of the challenge, and the fun, of a longer run is finding your rhythm, learning more and more about your character and the cast and the audience as you get a chance to really explore the play. It’s sad that it’s changing. Don and I talk about this frequently. We miss the way it was. Professional theater is very different than it was 20 years ago.

I have no desire to work on this dollhouse, it seems, but it does work well as a backdrop, especially for the smaller girls.
Obviously, more reading on the docket for today!

same here about the temperature. i’ve been ready for sweater weather since at least the end of june.
girls, pup and bear sure look sweet. glad you have them. i would like to have a dress like ruby’s (on the left) or any of mrs. walton’s. :)
week ahead here will mainly consist of paper-sorting (ugh) and hopefully getting remaining boxes out of the entry (mostly things to donate or sell, after family members get first dibs). walks each morning and occasional knitting, too.

That does make a fantastic backdrop for the little ones! I hear you on the schedule for theatre. It makes sense, I guess, but it’s really sad after all the work into it, and, as you said, getting the groove of it as you go along. But I’m glad it was very well received.

The weather here has been unbelievably warm…in the 80’s. And, of course, no rain. So today was mostly spent watering evergreens and trees. On Sunday, it was pleasant out with a cool breeze, so the windows were open for a bit. I heard leaves on our patio rustle, and for a moment thought it was 20 degrees cooler. Ah…if only.

Dad, Mike and I went for supper tonight for dad’s 88th bday! We had cake and tea afterwards with my aunt and uncle. Mike started a little argument with my aunt. He can be so arrogant and immature. Anyways, the man i married…
Im so blessed to still have my daf. And all to myself here in our city. Ive spent so much time with him and I’ll always treasure it! Gosh my mom was so lucky to have such an incredible man. And he’s still handsome.

It seems to me that for many people going to the theater is not a “thing” anymore. Luckily I have a few friends who will attend theater events with me. We have a wonderful musical theater group that performs all summer. Now that college is back in session we have also purchased tickets to a few plays on the campus.
Nothing can replace the experience of attending live theater. Thank you for posting – I really enjoy reading your blog.
