Reality Shot Thursday #3

October 13, 2011 at 12:01 am by Claudia

Hello everyone! Welcome to Reality Shot Thursday, where we take our cameras, move them just a bit to the left or right of our pretty staged photos and share the results.

This week: an area of my home that has been the focus of a few pretty photos in the past. Here’s what it looks like now:

Let’s look a little closer. And bear in mind, this is a dark corner, so the photos are a tad grainy.

This desk has become a catch-all for receipts, mail, pieces of paper that we don’t know what to do with, and spare change. And, apparently, a used kleenex (I’m the guilty party.)

Above the desk:

My filing system. Every piece of mail or paperwork that eventually has to go upstairs is shoved here. And it stays there until I can’t stand it anymore. Since I’m in the midst of this awful cold, the mess will stay there a while longer.

As you can see, I have made a few changes on the blog – a new banner and a new background. My blog designer is no longer in business and I have been craving a lighter look. So I took the reins. I hope you like it.

Love your filing system, clever utilization of available space!
Your blog now loads much faster than it used to, I like.
Belated happy anniversary to you and Don. Great songs Don!
Hope your sniffles soon move on Claudia. Have been catching up on your posts. Your dolls house is looking great.
    Hugs Alveen

Claudia, love the new look and yes it loaded immediately! Great banner pics.

Your filing system is great – I’m gonna start something similar for my stairs, they are definitely being under utilized. I usually just dump everything that has to go upstairs on the bottom step. Some people have those neat stair baskets or boxes – I’m scared to death of falling over those forgetting they’re there on the way down – in the dark!

Love the little desk in the corner – see you’re also at the magnifier stage too, lol!!!

Happy Thursday and hope you won’t require too many more boxes of tissues – your poor nose!

Love, Mary (all about trash today!)

I rather like the way it looks. Now you can at least see someone actually lives here, instead of those homes which look like show homes.
I noticed your little stair rugs, or whatever they are called. I like those! Never seen them before. How do they stay put? Are they glued down?

Love the new look, very fresh looking.
Not sure your filing system would work for us, I think our 11 month old pup might find the letters just too tempting and chew the lot.
Sharing a real Parisien tablescape today, totally unstaged!

    Hi Claudia,
It’s good to know that others really live in their homes. There is something calming about seeing and knowing that not everyone’s home looks like a magazine. Mine is looking really lived in at the moment! LOL!

Love the filing system. It’s good to know that others have the same problem with things piling up that I do.

Claudia, it makes me feel better about the desk in my living room that is always Covered with paper! I haven’t seen the surface in years! Thanks for letting us know that we are all human. If you’ve noticed we never take wide shots in our home, he, he. Enjoy your day! Twyla

    Hello Claudia

I really like your idea of the Reality Shots. Besides the pleasure looking at these beautiful pictures in the blogs makes me feel like: Gosh, I’m such an ordinary person living in an ordinary house. :-)

Thank you for your comment on my post.

I love the way your stairs “turn” and have the little landing. And the closet underneath. Your filing system just adds to the charm! Houses are made to be lived in:)

Okay…I was just telling debi that I’m not a cluttery sort of person…and it’s true…I’m a die hard, put things away, neat freak sort of being…..

but I too am guilty of the ‘used facial tissue’ issue!
it’s terrible…but so nice to know I’m not the only one who does that on occasion.

come by to visit today….i’m hosting a one day

Oh I love this reality idea! I would bet I have plenty of photos to add if I just browse through some. I’m always cropping, cropping, cropping!
Then there are all the pictures of things I would like to add to my blog, like entryways that I worked on decorating…except then a a big muddy dog came and laid down on my new welcome mat in front of the door!
Reality can be pretty ugly at times!

I love that great little nook! What a perfect place for a desk.

And your stair posts are perfect for holding the mail. lol If I had a great little nook like yours, I’m sure it would the same way!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
