My geranium is still chugging along. I took this photo yesterday and there are even more flowers today.
The impatiens might not have fared as well, since I forgot to cover them last night and the temp was below freezing. I’ve been ambivalent about overwintering them this year, so maybe this was meant to be. The truth is, I’m having a hard time and certain tasks or ideas or plans have lost their appeal. They seem to take too much energy. I know that will change in time, but for now, that’s the way it is.
As promised, the biscuit recipe:
Cloud Biscuits
2 cups flour
1 tsp. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1½ tsp. salt (I usually cut this amount in half. If you like salty biscuits, have at it.)
½ cup butter
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup milkCut butter into dry ingredients, until well chopped. Stir egg into milk and into dry ingredients. Place on floured board and knead until blended. Flatten out (but not too flat) until smooth, cut with cookie/biscuit cutter and place on oiled cookie sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes.
A couple of tips: Baking time will vary. In my oven, 12 minutes seems to do the trick. And don’t make the mistake of flattening out the dough too much. I usually leave it at least a half-inch in depth, if not more. If you flatten it too much, the cloud biscuits won’t be quite as big and fluffy.
The link for the Stuffed Portobello Mushroom recipe is here.
And if you google Deirdre Imus and Crabbiless Crab Cakes, you’ll probably find that recipe. The reason I didn’t share it here is simple. The recipe is in a book we purchased – The Imus Ranch: Cooking for Kids and Cowboys – that is full of the vegetarian recipes Imus uses at the Imus Ranch, a ranch that is devoted to children who have cancer. Since the proceeds from the book go to the Imus Ranch, I do not feel right about publishing the recipe on this blog. The link for the book is here.
There you go. This is a rare recipe post from yours truly, so make a note on your calendar. It doesn’t happen very often.
New in the shop:
The Obsession Scarf in Lake. It’s tricky to photograph, but the variations in the shades of blue and aqua are very subtle.
It’s very pretty and is 74 inches long.
Update: Sold! Thank you! I’m listing another scarf in Wildberries later today, so keep your eye on the shop!
Happy Sunday.

Good Morning Claudia, biscuits sound really good. I will have to try these. Just love the scarfs they are so pretty. I have been busy knitting on looms. I have made scarfs, hats, sock booties and now I am working on fingerless gloves. (sometimes I just amaze myself, lol) Much easier for me with the looms, just can’t seem to be able to get the hang of it with needles. I can crochet a little bit. Might take a class at Michaels. Have a wonderful day!!
hugs
Claudia says
I’ve never knitted on a loom, so I’m quite in awe of you! Crochet isn’t hard, once you get the hang of it!
Donnamae says
Thanks for the biscuit recipe…I’ve never made biscuits before…need a biscuit cutter! Nice that you could save your geranium…pretty color…as is that scarf! Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I often use a small glass turned upside down to cut the biscuits. You can do it without a biscuit cutter, Donnamae. Congrats on the scarf! I’ll get it in the mail tomorrow.
Donnamae says
Of course…turn a glass over! Told you I never made biscuits before! Yes…so happy about that scarf! ;)
Claudia says
See? There’s nothing keeping you from trying that recipe!
Sue says
Will definitely be making those biscuits. The recipe is close to the one I have from my grandmother with a few tweaks.
Thanks for sharing with us!
Claudia says
You’re welcome, Sue.
Linda @ A La Carte says
The biscuits sound so good. I will give it a go!! The stuffed mushrooms also sound wonderful. Wishing you a good day. I’ve had a bit of a relapse and was coughing like crazy last night. No church today so I’m home and resting. I will get back to my normal self one of these days.
hugs,
Linda
Claudia says
Oh darn it! Take care of yourself and REST!
Judy Clark says
Will definitely be trying the cloud biscuits. Mushrooms sound delicious also.
Congratulations on selling out those scarves as soon as you show them. Good for you.
Have a great week.
Judy
Claudia says
Thanks, Judy. My hands are getting tired!
Wendy TC says
I last made biscuits in the 7th grade…they were hard enough to knock a person out if you threw one at someone’s head. Maybe I’ll try again. Otherwise, honestly, I’m a good cook!
Claudia says
These shouldn’t be hard, Wendy. Give them a try!

Before my husband and I got married, I fixed biscuits and gravy for breakfast one morning. I ate mine and then headed upstairs to do laundry or something and I could hear the tinkling of fork to plate, not from eating, but from food being dumped into the garbage. Ha! Turns out, he wasn’t too keen on biscuits and gravy but didn’t want to tell me. Little did he know I’d figure out what was going on. :) You really are giving your crochet hook a workout. The scarves are lovely.
Claudia says
Tell him I’ll gladly eat his share! The hook is getting a workout but I’ll have to take a break soon!
meredith says
You know for an important family recipe I don’t think I have that one.
Love you,
M
Claudia says
You’d better write it down, sister! xoxo

Dear Claudia, I continue to enjoy your blog and I certainly relate to the fluctuation of energy levels. I think loss of loved ones is one of the most difficult experiences as we age. I am dealing with roller coaster emotions during this time also. I lost “My Special Man” (life companion for five years) last year about this time and presently my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (10 years old) is very close “to going to the rainbow”. Lily was diagnosed 2013 with congestive heart disease. Her general health is still remarkably good. And her disposition is wonderful in spite of what she is going through. We have a fabulous Vet. It’s so difficult to even think of her not being in my life. It will be the first time in forty years that I will be without a four legged Fur Baby.
But, still the blessings in my life are abundant even though I am one of those “little old ladies” with almost no family involvement due to both dysfunction and death. But, as you know we can try so very hard to be “near the top of the world” and yet struggle until we are able to bounce back to some comfort level of acceptance . We can do it!
Your scarves are lovely with such beautiful colors. I can see why your sales are great. You are like a very talented little “handwork machine”. If you are like me, handwork can be so comforting among other benefits.
I am wishing you and yours a cozy, enjoyable and loving day and many of them in the coming days during this challenging but Beautiful Holiday Season.
Claudia says
Mary, I’m so sorry for the loss of your companion. I can’t imagine the pain you must be feeling. And as one who has an elderly dog who is getting frailer all the time (she’s almost 17) I know how hard it is to contemplate life without a beloved pet. We are dreading that day and I pray we can keep her with us as long as possible.
Sending you the best of wishes for healing and peace and joy. We’ll keep counting our blessings during this holiday season, as challenging as it will be, okay?
Barbara Miller says
I’ve been knitting like a crazy fool lately. I think it is the cool weather. Makes the thought of wearing scarves so exciting. The blue is beautiful too. Can’t wait to see the wild berries.
Claudia says
It’s in the shop now, Barbara. You can see it there. Thanks for your kind words.
Nancy Blue Moon says
I can’t wait to bite into one of those biscuits…the mushrooms sound yummy…
Claudia says
I think I need to make another batch this week!
Kathy says
Thanks for the recipes! I googled Imus Ranch and found a link with the crab cake recipe that said they posted it with permission from the author… so I copied it and will definitely try that one soon. Maybe with the biscuits. I’ve had SUCH a craving for biscuits lately. Must be divine intervention telling me to make them already! LOL Sounds very similar to my grandmother’s buttermilk biscuits which I usually make with regular milk or almond milk.
Claudia says
Good, I’m glad you found the recipe, Kathy! You’ll love those crabbiless cakes!
LesleyAnn says
Do you use plain flour with this recipe? Or self-rising? This is how my Granny made them … they’re awesome!! I can eat a whole pan.
Your scarves are lovely. Are you using LionBrand Landscapes yarn? I love the colors.
Grief is a rollercoaster emotion. My dog of 12 years crossed the rainbow bridge on 5 November. I’ve been devastated. It’s changed every part of my day, every day. I have no family so it’s been quite difficult. The holidays are difficult. I’m sorry you and your sister are going through this grief.
Blessings to you.
Claudia says
I’m so sorry to hear of your dog’s passing. It is never easy and they are our children. My dogs are everything to me, so I know how devastating this loss is for you. Sending you a big hug, Lesley.
Yes, just plain flour – all-purpose flour.
I use Universal Yarns Classic Shades for most of the scarves. xo
Janet in Rochester says
“Cloud Biscuits” sound dee-lish. I will definitely be trying them. Although I think I’ll use SWEET butter instead of salted the first time – to see if that makes any difference. A teaspoon and a half of salt WITH salted butter does seem like it would make a fairly-salty biscuit. Will let you know how mine turn out. PS – that’s my favorite color of geranium. So pretty.
Claudia says
Oh, I always use unsalted butter. Never salted! And I still cut back on the salt and halve it.
Janet in Rochester says
Smart. I use sweet butter most of the time now too, unless the recipe specifies salted [which is rare]. Every little bit helps when trying to reduce sodium in foods. Maybe I’ll cut the salt in your recipe to an even teaspoon and see what happens. Geez, now I’m really wanting me some hot biscuits!! ☀️
Claudia says
Enjoy, Janet!
Betsy says
Beautiful scarf Claudia and thank you for the recipes. I’m flying to D.C. On Tuesday to visit our daughter’ family for a couple of weeks. After that I may take you up on picking your brain regarding etsy. I truly appreciate the offer. Happy Sunday to you, Don and Scout!
Blessings!
Betsy
