My visit to two different antique shops yesterday was disappointing. One, which is one of my favorites, didn’t have what I wanted. This shop has recently opened a new ‘warehouse’ so I stopped there, as well. SO disappointing! Yes, it’s a huge warehouse, but except for a couple of booths, it’s pretty junky. Like walking into Goodwill or the Salvation Army (at least the ones around here) but arranged with a bit more style. Sigh.
Anyway, I returned home feeling as if I’d wasted three hours. My reaction to all of this seemed to be a bit too strong and sure enough, come the evening, I started to feel under the weather. So that might explain it. Today, I’m also feeling crappy, but I’m not ‘have to stay in bed crappy.’ Hopefully, this will fade away quickly.
These are my vintage celluloid deer that I found several years ago and rediscovered when I pulled out the bins in the shed to decorate the real Christmas tree. I really love them. I’m guessing they were hung from a tree at one point.
I was rearranging the putz sheep yesterday and looked a bit more closely at this one:
Do you remember my saying that this girl had everything; the bow, the cloth/wool ears, the bell?
Well, she also has Germany stamped on her leg. She’s got it all, that girl!
I did stop at Michael’s yesterday and added this little picket fence to the scene on my shelf.
It’s a gray day today but I’ll try to take a photo of the entire scene as it is…so far. Because you know I’m going to putz a bit with my putz sheep.
Happy Friday.

Oh no…..I donated over a thousand dollars worth of new unopened Dept. 56 Limited Edition
Dickens Village pieces to Goodwill. I don’t shop in the stores but thought this was a good
thing to do and would be nice for families. Now, reading your comments, I am in tears.
Are all charity stores junky ? Does everything get tossed about in such a manner as to never make its way into welcoming hands ?
Claudia says
Oh gosh no! Just the ones near me. I’ve been in some – and certainly have read about some – that are quite nice. Don’t cry. And don’t take me literally in terms of it being junky – I’m just contrasting it to a inviting and beautifully arranged antique shop.
You did a nice thing and rest assured, the shop will treat your items well!

have fun putzing (what i call puttering, something i love to do) and better luck next time in your searches.
more importantly, i hope you feel better soon and have a nice weekend.

Thank you Kathy!

Thank you Claudia for your kind and supportive comments, I’m a bit shell shocked that Boris Johnson gained such a landslide victory.
I’ve never come across the Putz sheep over here but that maybe because they weren’t on my radar. I’ll certainly start looking out for them and let you know if I find any. The Reindeer remind me of Babycham Deer ornaments which were associated with a very popular champagne perry drink popular in the 1950s. Original Babycham vintage deer and drink glasses are very much sought after by collectors.
Make sure you are well rested this week and feeling better for Christmas!
Happy Friday
Claudia says
I’m shocked as well. Has anyone brought up tampering with the votes? I know it happened here in 2016.
Thank you, Dee Dee.

I love to poke around in second-hand/charity shops. Sometimes, there are great finds, but many times there’s nothing worth buying. I believe Goodwill and Salvation Army take all the donations to a central location, then parcel them out to their local stores. I actually prefer to donate to and shop at very specific charity shops, such as the one associated with my town’s senior activity center. Those organizations take donations they think they can sell and put them into their specific shop. Then they sell the other donations to other organizations.
Claudia, I hope you will feel badly only for a day or so and then be right as rain. Speaking of rain, I’d better get my walk in before it rains soon!
Claudia says
It’s raining here now, Wendy, but we got through a good portion of the day before it started. Thanks!

A fine day for putzing. And most fun putzing with the Putz houses & sheep. I love the houses. I have only one….. but several “imitations” which I also love.
Today is cookie mixing day at our house. My daughter has the day off, and we have been mixing up a storm. Tomorrow is baking day. Glad to get it all done and into the freezer. I haven’t made cookies since we did this last year, so my husband is quite happy!! We do several give away plates, also, and use for parties, etc.
I hope you will feel better. Not a whole day in bed, but do take time to rest throughout the day…. it makes such a huge difference in getting well. Enjoy the remainder of your Friday!
Claudia says
You and your daughter do this every year, right? What a wonderful tradition! Have fun!

Thank you for peaking my interest in “Putz”. I had to google the word. Come to find out I’ve been a fan of Putz houses since I was little girl. My Grandmother had quite a few houses. It was a big honor to arrange the houses on cotton batting under the Christmas tree. Sweet memories.
Claudia says
Oh that cotton batting made everything look Christmasy! Thanks, Lisa.

Yeah, I put my foot down today and said I don’t want to go anywhere; I’m tired of being gone from the house; am not getting anything done. Just a lot of extra this year with surgery for the dog, my husband with the allergist, etc., etc. Why does it all bunch up in December and close of the year? Sigh. There’s enough to do at holiday time and we do need our quiet space to putz. I’m not even fully decorated around the house yet (indoors). Huge moon last night and I felt like I couldn’t even spend any time watching it rise.
Claudia says
We all need some quiet space – especially at this time of year, Vicki! Just take your time. You aren’t on any set schedule for decorating. What gets done gets done.
Vicki says
Thanks. I’m definitely feeling pressured. I’ve definitely had a Friday The Thirteenth. Had a bad reaction to a new prescription drug, so was back and forth on the phone with my good primary care physician, bless her for quick response, and we got it resolved at 5pm after a major crappy day. Let’s just say I’m looking forward to a quiet Saturday & Sunday. I intend to play carols and not budge one foot from this house.
Claudia, please know that I totally love your deer family on the piano. I have so many deer figurines that I know it’s an obsession.
And, like you, I don’t like unproductive shopping days; it always feels like failure for the trip out. I’m not a good window shopper like some people are; if I go, I have intent; want to bring back something. I get it!
Claudia says
I hope you’re feeling better today, Vicki. Enjoy that Christmas music!
jeanie says
I can relate. So disappointing when you hit the shop hoping for something and it just seems crappy. But I adore your sheep. Lucky girl, that Ms. Germany! Can’t wait to see what you do with them!
Claudia says
Miss Germany is the putz sheep award winner! Thanks, Jeanie.
Donnamae says
We spent the day putzing ourselves …mostly finishing up Christmas projects.
That fence you bought for your putz sheep is perfect! I know you said you wanted to change the paper…but, the clouds do look nice since you added the fence.
All this talk about antique stores, has got me thinking, that I should be checking them in early November next year for Vintage Christmas. It seems I start to get really busy about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, and it doesn’t seem to let up much.
I hope you are feeling better…and are able to enjoy these days. Even if there’re gloomy, twinkle lights always make things better. Do your town’s resident’s do lots of outdoor lights? I always enjoy driving at night looking at the lights. Have a good evening! ;)
Claudia says
I think the fence makes it look better. I’m happy with it, Donna.
Our town is very small but it’s spread out over a large amount of acreage. The actual number of houses in town are minimal. But we’re going to take a drive to neighboring town next week to see their lights.

Hope you are feeling better. The reindeer are adorable.

Love the celluloid deer. Those are very special. I have one I think. Love the fence added to the sheep shelf! Looking so happy at Mockingbird Hill Cottage!

Thank you, Linda!
