Roseville #3 – Clematis

June 16, 2021 at 9:06 am by Claudia

Clematis, Oil on paper. 6″ x 9″

I finished this one yesterday afternoon. It was tricky because it’s clear to me that the original colors on the vase have faded. Painting it as it looks now is tricky – the changes of colors on the flower are so subtle as to be virtually indistinguishable. I could see a bit more of a difference on the other side. The only section where I intensified the color was the center of the flower. We’ll call it ‘artistic interpretation.’

These pieces are challenging to paint – at least for Beginner Me. I’ve chosen my next subject. Time to study it and do a sketch – I’ve found that helps me to memorize the shape and really get to know the vase. My new easel should arrive later today. I’m looking forward to putting it to use.

I ended up putting my current easel on a suitcase turned on its side. But then it was too high. So I grabbed a big cushion and  sat on it while I painted. That did the trick.

It’s a gorgeous day today. We’re going to take a little drive this morning – Don wants to drive his car and we need to escape for a short time.

I woke up this morning to see the fence between our property and our neighbor’s had been extended a bit in an effort to discourage the chickens from coming over here. It’s nothing but a pain in the tush for my neighbors as it takes a lot of time to wrangle the gang back onto their property. Hopefully, this will do the trick and everyone can relax.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

You are the artist…seems to me that gives you license to interpret what you see. I like your interpretation.

The chickens crack me up. Keeping up with them must be a real challenge, since they are free range. More power to your neighbors if they can keep up.

It’s a beautiful day here too. Windows open for now. We are taking off shortly to pick up mulch…so you know what we’ll be doing later. Enjoy your drive! ;)

The weather is getting better? Has the heat finally left?

      Thanks, Donna.

      Stay safe.

We’ve had a few cooler days. Highs in the 80’s, but the humidity has temporarily left. And, with lows into the 50’s at night, we were able to open the windows at night. Such a pleasure…I’m sure you can relate! ;)

hope you’re enjoying a nice drive and gentler weather right now.

    beautiful painting, claudia!

i am tickled for you to have a life-size easel on the way so you can paint more comfortably!

despite some competing goals, good luck to you, your neighbors and the chickens and mr. pickens, too.

very hot again here. predicted to reach 97 tomorrow and up to 103 this weekend. ):( been making myself walk in it because it helps my back and physical therapy. plus brownies. :l
i am ready for fall temperatures!

hope everyone is safe and comfy and having a good day.

I am so excited that you are loving your new painting passion and that the easel is arriving soon, maybe even before I have written this.

I feel for the neighbors with the chickens. I’m glad you don’t seem to mind too much but it will be nice not to have to worry about it much!

We’re in the mid-70s today and no real humidity. We got back from the kids (well, I got back — Rick is in TX so not so pleasant there!). Life is good.

So far, so good. No chickens in our yard yesterday!

But they’re devilishly smart, so we’ll see.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
