A Sad Lack of Decorating

April 21, 2011 at 6:41 pm by Claudia

May I be frank? I don’t usually do very much Easter decorating. We don’t have kids, the dogs don’t care and we certainly don’t need any candy around here. Today is, what, 3 days before Easter? Nothing. Feeling somewhat remiss, I decided to look for my fabric eggs. If you remember, I made many, many of them 2 years ago when I was in San Diego. Where are they?

In my catch-all drawer. In the same drawer?

My box of beautiful Quail eggs, which surely should be on display for Spring, right next to the lint brush. And on top of our wedding album.

My egg cup collection?

Tucked into their little home in the guest bedroom/studio/office. I didn’t even give them their usual Easter photo session.

This, my friends, is all you’re going to get this year:

Hey, at least it’s something!

This has been the coldest April I can remember. It it’s not raining, it’s windy. We’ve had only a few days of sun. Hello, Spring? Can you hear me? I’m COLD. I worked outside today in the garden with the wind howling and now my cheeks are red from wind burn. I have to leave for Wisconsin in 9 days. I think you’ve given me about 4 days that were decent enough to work outside. Enough, already!

Side note: I’ve been playing with the blog. (It’s been raining endlessly and I was bored.) I cleaned up the sidebar which was looking too cluttered. I dared to mess with the Html on my template and added some pages right under the header. They contain much of what was on the sidebar plus some extras. This is a work in progress – I’ll be tweaking it in the coming days.

Have a great weekend, if I don’t post before Sunday. If you celebrate Easter, have a happy one.

The blog looks good as always as does your fab fabric eggs…you’ve got more goin’ on than I do. It’s been beautiful here in sunny So. Cal..almost perfect weather…GREAT! I’ve jinxed it now!

Have a wonderful clutter free weekend.

I *heart* your egg cup collection! I would eat a poached egg every day if I had those to put it in.

For all the same reasons you mentioned, there’s no Easter decor at my house either. I feel like I’m ahead of the game if Christmas is put away by now. :-)

Claudia, I think I have a couple of tiny bunnies out and a cross in the window and that is it. I am not a big holiday decorator except for Christmas. I wish you some sun and warmth for good gardening. ♥Olive

Nice work on your blog. The links at the top – were they a lot of work to put in place? Have you read any other blog that writes about ‘how to’?
Love the eggs – footed egg cups are my favorites.

Claudia, your post today could be posted on my blog and would be totally appropriate.
We’ve not one Easter decoration. I’ve a few goodies out that could be construed as decorations but they are out year long anyway.
Our spring weather is just plain crazy. The other nights lots of hail and this afternoon rainy and more like February.
I cleaned up and up-dated a bit of my sidebar.
    Hmmmm, . . .
I have to assume Wisconsin is going to be cold yet.
    Hugs,
    Gerry

I know what you mean about 3 days until Easter and no decorating!
You fabric eggs are so sweet in that basket. And I love your egg cup collection.
I do hope your weather clears soon so you can be outside and truly enjoy the spring.

I absolutely adore your egg cup collection. That’s Easter decor enough. I don’t decorate really for any holiday very much unless we are having a family get together… well, except for Christmas.

It got away from me too this year. Must be a traveling thing. But, I think your eggs and egg holders are just the perfect ticket. A little, but not too much.

    Happy Easter,

I love your little touch of Easter:) I have not done much decorating either- but I had a fun time making basket to ship to my nieces and nephews :) I love the pages on the top of your blog. Someone did my blog setup for me so I’m so scared of trying to change it! I love the layout she did so much :) Wishing you a Happy Easter Claudia- it’s cold here too and I’m hoping that Easter bunny is bringing eggs full of sunshine!

    Hi Claudia!
I LOVE your fabric eggs. They remind me of some fabric balls my mom made years ago and used to put in a basket she made herself. I thought of my mother’s fabric balls immediately. Good memory… I do not have as many Easter decorations as I usually have myself. We moved into a new home last year and the boxes are in a place in my garage that are hard to get to. I do have an Easter basket that my mother who is no longer with me made my children featured on my blog last week. I have this basket on my mantel with just a couple of decorations. Hopefully, I will have more decor next year. I think having less decorations though makes us focus on the true meaning of Easter. I wish you, your hubby and your cute doggies a wonderful Easter! Happy Easter! xoxo Kim

Claudia, you are ahead of me with Easter decorations! Since my kids are gone I focus more on the flowers outside and some inner reflections – but I am not overly religious. I don’t understand why we are having stifling 90 degree weather, yet some are still having snow! May we all look forward during this spring, because I DO believe in renewal and the resilience of the human spirit – whether it be because of a belief in a God or a belief in oneself. Ann

haha claudia. you are so funny. i have kids and i still don’t decorate for easter. i don’t even have eggs out this easter. we are going to disney tomorrow morning and the kids didn’t even get a basket from us this year. my house has enough stuff in it already w/out the clutter of bunnies and eggs. it will add to the chaos, so i have opted to not decorate at all.
i too have stuff piled in drawers and pull it out during the occasional seasonal change of decor. i have nativity things in drawers, twinkle lights, real nests, christmas tree ornies, and possibly some old halloween candy. i get it. i do.
i think your eggs looks splendid!!! enjoy your easter.
i too wonder where spring is??? how cold is it???? brrrrrr. so cold.
    florida….here i come.
    take care

You do have a fabulous Easter collection – love all those egg cups especially.

Claudia, hopefully you will get warmer weather very soon – no fun out there digging and delving in such fierce winds, your poor skin!

Your blog always looks fabulous – wish I knew how to do the lists under the header – where do you locate that option please. Know you’re busy so don’t feel you need to go into a tutorial or such, just perhaps a quick sentence to direct me. Thanks dear.

Easter blessings to you – may the sun shine down tomorrow on the cottage and garden.
    Hugs – May

    Thanks, Mary

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
