Another night with temperatures in the teens. I think tomorrow will bring warmer weather.

Appointments last week were full up, so I can’t take the car in until Monday morning. Don’s car needs a major repair, my car needs some sort of repair…it’s all worrisome. I’m practicing letting go and trusting all will work out. But as a lifetime worrier, that’s not always easy for me to do.

One of my favorite things this time of year is to plug the tree lights in first thing in the morning. There’s something so lovely about the sparkle of the tree when it’s still dark outside. Because we place it in front of the french doors leading into the den, both Don (sitting in the living room) and I (sitting in the den) get to experience its beauty.

I’m having some difficulty concentrating on reading. I go through these periods at times. I’ve pulled out a few favorites from years back that require very little effort and, more importantly, make me happy. That’s what I’m going with for now.

Because she’s so beautiful, another shot of Miranda.

And today’s Queen – Jessie.

Only one more Queen for the Day to go. Hmmmm. Which girl hasn’t been featured yet?

Time to make our second cup of coffee.

Happy Birthday to my dear cousin Eileen, who reads this blog. Love you.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

i like your plan to turn on Christmas tree lights early. (doing the same here … pretty, cheerful, helpful.)

i also like your plan to let go of worries, and trust that things will work out (something i’ve not often been good at … but i keep at it).

re-reading favorite books sounds good, too. (slowly reading for the first time “little women” here … .maybe five chapters so far and i started it at least three weeks ago. i tell myself at least i’m doing some reading, and am determined to not lose reading again.)

the girls all wear that crown well. was it originally an ornament?

everything outside looks very shiny here. think any kind of precipitation has stopped for the moment, but has been extended by many hours to fall off and on until about 6:00 tonight and that’s with the temperature hovering around the freezing mark all day. i don’t like this kind of shiny!

yesterday, aware of the forecast, i put out extra food for earl, burl and the birds, but best i go check it today, just in case.

hope you, don and everyone else have a wonderful weekend and stay safe in every way. praying for everyone.

I assume it was an ornament.

Hope the ice disappears soon, Kathy. I don’t like that kind of shiny, either!

      Stay safe.

If I were to pick a favorite of your dolls—Jessie would be my favorite. She has such a sweet little face.

Oh, that’s so nice to hear! Since I did her faceup, I’m a little insecure about the result.

      Thank you, Trina.

      Stay safe.

Thank you for the birthday wish. We’re going out to eat today. I haven’t been out much because of all the wind and snow. The lake isn’t frozen yet so we have a lot of lingering seagulls and now a flock of geese are resting out in front. Right now I’m enjoying the snow but I’m sure I’ll grow tired of it.

Love the crown pictures. Every girl should feel like a queen sometimes.
    Love you,
    Eileen

We aren’t getting the low temperatures you are, but it’s pretty cold. Early this morning we were getting a lot of thunder and lightning, and windy and rainy now. I think it’s going to be a dreary day. I’m with you, being a worrier…and car problems can be a big worry. Hope the car issues will be taken care of soon. Miranda and Jessie are so cute in the Christmas crowns! Stay warm!

Happy Birthday, Eileen. My dad was born on this day 116 years ago. Yikes! Hope your car concerns will be solved, Claudia. Love seeing the girls in their crowns, Queen for a Day. Jesse is my favourite, too. Jessie was my paternal grandmother’s name. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Elaine

I also light up the tree first thing in the morning. It’s comforting to me. Our weather forecast today is not comforting however. Freezing rain….not much, but still.

I find it an odd coincidence that holidays and car or home repairs invariably seem to occur around the holidays. Always a worry to me, too.

How many Blythe’s do you have? I’ve lost track. But…they all look so festive while wearing the crown.

    Enjoy your weekend! ;)

      17. And that’s going to be it. No more. Prices have become ridiculous.

      Jessie is a bjd doll.

      Stay safe, Donnamae.

I also turn on the Christmas tree lights first thing in the morning. My tree is in a corner in front of glass doors and a mirror on the other wall. The reflection is perfect. It looks like three trees shining at me. I feel for you with the car situation. I’d love to live in a walkable town with good public transportation and ditch the car altogether. My daily walk takes me past a school and I see all the cars just sitting in the lot and think hmmmm, maybe I could just borrow one of those when I need to . What a shame it’s considered grand theft auto. Lol

As your friend, I would advise against grand theft auto! (Although it is tempting, isn’t it?)

      Stay safe, Deb.

What a wonderful spot to place your tree. I turn my lights on first thing, too!

I hear you about reading. For me it’s just the time. I want to watch Christmas movies, bake, wrap, all that. The reading has slipped below the fold for now. But I know me well enough to know that will change soon!

Today I have to put together our list of Christmas movies, compare it to what TCM has on in primetime, then come up with a schedule.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Every day lately is dark and gloomy so I also light the tree. Our elderly Kezia has always loved hanging out underneath the Christmas tree (can’t believe this will be her 20th with us!) and I fixed up a little bed of fleece blanket for her this year. She also discovered today the bow on a present beneath it makes a great chin scratcher.

We’re up in the 40’s today and tomorrow before plunging back down to seasonal. That means lots of fog, ugh. Hope you get good news about your car.

    Take care,
    Kay

I’m delaying taking it in because of the weather (and because I don’t want to deal with it.)

      Stay safe, Kay.

    Hi there,
I’m behind on my life. Last week I didn’t realize Christmas is approaching so quickly. d
I think the Nissan company in Canada will make it. Our Nissan needs servicing, Mike’s brother is a mechanic. I must call him.
Our postal strike is over tomorrow – people say it’s no use sending cards, but I will anyways. Guess they’ll all get them in early Feb or so. It’ll still be winter anyways. My gardening gloves are at the side door, as well as a pot – don’t ask me why they’re not put away.
I walked to the little park beside the hospice where my mom spent her last few days. It was the last full moon of the year, called the cold moon. It was 5 a.m. and very clear outside.
I don’t like Christmas, except for the Christ part. We try not to go past $100 on gifts, usually about $50. We have everything and more.
Today would have been my mom and dad’s 63rd wedding anniversary. Mom gave Dad the ultimatum of being married before the year’s end. They honeymooned in Calgary that weekend and there was a snow storm. Dad still has very cold feet and my sister always keeps him in nice wool socks.
Happy birthday to your sis. Sorry for the ramble. As my lovely native friend says, Oly!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
