Well, the morning glory didn’t make it. It looked fine when we first removed the tarp, but as the day went on the leaves withered. I recognized the signs. I’m very sad. The fact is that for years morning glories started to bloom here in August and had lots of flowers through September. But for the past 5 years or so, the buds do not emerge until late September – early October and that’s a recipe for failure. And there were so many buds! (And I sowed my seeds even earlier this year.)
Climate change is real.
I have two options: stop sowing morning glory seeds altogether or sow them in pots and see if that works better.
Anyway, I spent the day yesterday washing the sheets we had under the porch pots while they were in the house, cleaning up the porch, lugging each pot back to the porch. vacuuming the floors because there was a lot of plant debris, and watching hundreds of catalpa leaves float to the ground. And, if I’m honest, checking and rechecking the morning glories in case they somehow magically revived.
Then I watched the baseball team of my childhood years lose to the Mariners.

I can’t help it. They’re so darned cute.
Tomorrow is our 27th wedding anniversary. We’re always amazed that two people who didn’t meet until they were in their forties have been married this long. We’re very proud of our marriage. Don was twice divorced when I met him. I was marriage and commitment shy. Extremely so. That we hung in there and decided to take a giant risk is a miracle. We work hard at this marriage and it is everything to us. And I’m so, so lucky to have this man in my life.
So Happy Anniversary to us on October 12th!
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

Happy early anniversary! You two were meant to be! I’m glad you found each other!
Sorry to hear about your morning glories. We’ve had them in our backyard and they just keep growing and growing.
Enjoy your weekend.
I think that only happens in warmer climes. Here in the North, it’s a real challenge getting them to bloom.
Thanks so much, Barrie.

Yes, they are, so darned cute! Happy anniversary you two. Congratulations! Do something special to celebrate. Our neighbours are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary today. 70 years! They are both in their 90s and they said it wouldn’t last, lol. Hugs, Elaine
Thank you, Elaine! My parents almost made it to 70 years of marriage. Congrats to your neighbors.
Stay safe.
I am sorry to hear your morning glories didn’t make it. I thought for sure your ladder/tarp idea would work. Guess it was just too cold. I would definitely try planting morning glory seeds in pots…certainly worth a try.
I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow for your anniversary. 27 years is quite the accomplishment. Enjoy your day…Happy Anniversary! ;)
I thought it would work, too. Darn it!
Thanks so much, Donnamae.

Happy Anniversary to you two lovebirds! Sounds like you have a wonderful marriage. Being married that long is a blessing nowadays. It is cloudy and rainy today in Arizona. I am loving every minute of it. We don’t get this too often. Just a good day to stay in my jammies!
Oh, enjoy your cloudy and rainy weather, Deb!
Thanks so much.

Happy anniversary! You are right, marriage takes a lot of work and a lot of compromise, and sometimes a little bit of time away from each other doing one’s own thing. The caring and looking after each other makes up for all of it, though. The good times and the tough times we do together!
Yes! Thank you, Denise.

Happy, Happy Anniversary to you both! I wish many more years of joy, happiness and LOVE!

Wishing you both a day filled with the quiet joys and deep love that shine through every post you share. A beautiful testament to resilience, creativity and the kind of companionship that makes a cottage feel like a sanctuary. May this year bring even more laughter, music and moments that feel like home.
